ASUS is not TP-Link or D-Link
They don't neglect their old routers
Even the old RT-N16 that was launched in 2010 is still getting firmware update in this year unlike TP-Link / D-Link who abandon their old routers after 1 year of production

Getting 100Mb/s is not dependant on your router, but the device that you're using itself
Most devices limits 72Mb/s on 2.4GHz

Only very few devices can reach 100Mb/s on 2.4GHz

Disable Smart Connect then follow my settings below for 5GHz
I can get 100Mb/s on all my devices as long as I connect them to 5GHz

Place your interest at TM Point now to book a port before your neighbours grab them all

It’s not about anybody, it’s the devices they use
And most 2.4GHz devices does not support 100Mb/s on 2.4GHz

It’s just some people are just too fixated on using 2.4GHz instead of 5GHz

Use a different channel for your 5GHz, preferably something that your neighbour doesn’t use

It's always a good idead to update to the latest firmware
Firmware update fixes bugs, close security loophole, errors in the previous firmware & add new features
Check a few pages back, someone shared a screenshot of the SMS

As mentioned previously, there's nothing else you can do with the 2.4GHz
Even if you use the most expensive ASUS router which is the GT-AC5300, you still won't get 100Mb/s on 2.4GHz
100Mb/s can only be achieved with 5GHz

It's the limitation of 2.4GHz devices

Check at ASUS website then compare it to the version number on your router la

WiFi adapter doesn't need to be ASUS, even TP-Link is fine
Are you going to use this on a laptop or desktop?

For desktop, buy the card below instead of using USB WiFi adaptor
TP-Link Archer T6E PCI-Express WiFi Card

For laptop, state the make and model of your laptop
Perhaps we can just change the internal WiFi card in your laptop instead of using external USB
So please provide the full model number of your laptop

Connect 1 laptop to the router using an ethernet cable & run speedtest again

If the laptop cannot reach 100Mb/s while the laptop is connected to the router using cable - It's TM's fault and you need to give them a call
If the laptop can reach 100Mb/s while the laptop is connected to the router using cable - It's your fault, and TM is not responsible for this

The highest price I ever saw for the RT-AC86U is RM1.5K
Whereas the lowest is RM1.3K (Original ASUS Malaysia unit)

For RM1.8K = 2K, I believe you're looking at RT-AC5300
