QUOTE(g104 @ Dec 1 2017, 06:20 PM) Are scared of the dirt & exterior will damage? Most important are the airflow & temperature of the router. I still have the plastic wrapping on the antenna but not the main body of the router.I thought it would be easier to clean with the wrapping? lol Anyway, my router is sitting on top of a metal platform, which sits on top of a small cabinet. Plenty of space for air to flow on top and bottom and even on the sides (but not the back). QUOTE(soonwai @ Dec 1 2017, 06:20 PM) Does it look like a coffeemaker? |

QUOTE(soonwai @ Dec 1 2017, 06:39 PM) Oh no, not at all. It's nicknamed as such because when it reboots, it gives you just enough time to make a cup of Nescafe. Lol.I read that if we upgrade the firmware from it's default version, the rebooting time is faster, but after the bad experience I had with the dustbin can, I am not going to upgrade it. Btw, you had only one line item in your unifi dashboard for 'Promo Discount Perpetual' right? Does it apply to both the Promo Discount RM150 and UniFi Special Discount RM50? QUOTE(XeactorZ @ Dec 1 2017, 11:22 PM) In that case, stick with the stock STB.I believe those who already have Astro, would rather have HyppTV removed and get reduction in monthly subscription fees, than to have any extra channel. QUOTE(firdausbhari @ Dec 1 2017, 11:47 PM) I doubt you can do this. Either you hack the firmware (harder) or downgrade the firmware (easier).QUOTE(turbogogo @ Dec 1 2017, 11:57 PM) I am curious too. One thing for sure, those having 100Mbps do not have these bundled... or maybe some did but are keeping quiet? |

QUOTE(firdausbhari @ Dec 2 2017, 12:42 AM) If you roll back, security issues are possible but chances are not high. It was reported that for the 'unsafe' version, only about 200 subscribers are affected. As long as you don't allow remote management, you should be quite safe but not 100%. So you have to choose between the security and the freedom not to have @unifi as part of the SSID.Definitely free publicity when people scan for wifi. That said, those who are already connected to the internet, would have know what unifi is, or most of them anyway. |

QUOTE(iCare @ Dec 2 2017, 04:16 AM) TM takes security and privacy measures lightly. I suggest to take it easy. It is just HyppTV. If they don't have the sufficient encryption in place, just don't use it lo. I think they either haven't renew the cert or is using a self-signed cert. No ISP is perfect. Furthermore, they are GLC or something like that. Malaysia boleh mah. Most of their websites login also not secure. Still using old tls protocol. Heaven for hackers and crook insiders. https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=87021505 No action or response from TM. Another reason to switch to other isp. If we switch to others, we may have other headaches such as connection problem and 2 layers of support problem. QUOTE(SilentVampire @ Dec 2 2017, 08:11 AM) It is pointless though. The act of inserting the ‘@unfi’ does not achieve anything. I just get my own better router and don’t bother advertising for them. True. The @unifi is an 'add-on' they put when they patched the loopholes in the previous firmware. So it is not part of the solution itself. At this point of time, we have to accept it. It is going to be a long time for Time to offer services in landed houses. I guess the pricing may not be worthwhile then.Unfortunately, if you don’t have a choice, you have to still use them. If my area have Time, I would have ported our a long time ago. QUOTE(man @ Dec 2 2017, 08:24 AM) It is not a permanent solution though.QUOTE(shirogane @ Dec 2 2017, 11:46 AM) Just wait a while. They will put in the Special Unifi Promo RM50 soon. The challenge is, I couldn't get a definite answer of whether Perpetual applies to it too lolQUOTE(fruitie @ Dec 2 2017, 12:02 PM) I am curious if this applies to normal technical support problem. I experienced a few times that when I logged a report on a Friday or Saturday, they are supposed to come in next working day the earliest (Monday). But they called me on the next day morning (although it was weekend) and checked whether they could come in an hour or two. I was not ready for them to come but I was impressed. |

QUOTE(soonwai @ Dec 2 2017, 12:09 PM) Just wait for the bill to come out and then call them if necessary. I had my mine upgraded last week one day before my billing date. The next day I saw that the amount due was RM256.35 when it should have been closer to RM200.34. Gave them a call and they confirmed that I'm short a discount of RM50. Report was made and 3 days later it was adjusted to RM192.75. Less than I expected, not sure why. Pro-rated bill?QUOTE(firdausbhari @ Dec 2 2017, 01:49 PM) Not sure but it is best to use the latest firmware regardless of whether router/AP/repeater mode. So far, I have already upgraded it and used it as AP without problems.QUOTE(soonwai @ Dec 2 2017, 02:07 PM) Didn't take the old router nor the old black BTU. Actually I already had the old BTU replaced with a new one last week on a different technical report not related to the RM10 upgrade. So now I have 2 brand new Huawei HG8240s. So what could we do with 2 BTUs? Spare BTU in case one fails? What's the failure rate for the BTU? |

QUOTE(twL @ Dec 2 2017, 01:10 PM) Hi, my Unifi jz installed yesterday with the router of TP-Link Archer AC1200, the router located at living hall, but i realize if i at 1st floor and at kitchen, the speed will reduce to less than 8mbps, even my room jz right on top of the router position, is it I hv to do any setting? Currently In using 2.4GHz and under 30 mbps plan… is it I hv to update my firmware? The kitchen appliances especially the microwave oven and the fridge are the main culprits. Even your wireless desk phone also produces interference. On top of the suggestions to use powerline and repeater, you could also pull a long cable to the kitchen but it is a hassle and not cheap. How often do you need wifi connection in the kitchen?QUOTE(gahkin @ Dec 2 2017, 02:46 PM) and i got ask the helpdesk there no need any hardware replacement to be taken , but my btu is huawei black color 1 (since vip5 taken) , is able to carry 100mb line overall ? or i need take a report to ask for replacement 1st? TM have a record of your BTU and will know if it supports 100mbps. The 'code' they used is RG4.I am not sure about the record for the router though. QUOTE(iCare @ Dec 2 2017, 03:37 PM) Typical Malaysian mentality and "tidak apa" attitude. Good that you care. But it is not about 'tidak apa'. They are using old tls protocol which has vulnerability issues. The default account password that they gave to customer is lnked to HyppTV account to login (same password). @streamyx/@unifi You can not change the default account password using their website. Time has the best international routing, period. I remember , Jaring also had the best international routing before it went down for good. 'Take it easy' here means you have already done your part and you have await it to take it's course. This means you have reported the issue to them and keep checking with them until it is resolved. Whether the ISP wants to do something about it, is beyond you already unless you join their management team. Another option is to go to court or bring it up to the parliament level, but that's too extreme. Perhaps writing an article and publish it in the news could helps things somehow. In that case, this means one do really care Whether Time or Jaring is the best or better doesn't help the situation here, not currently. It is not available to some folks like us. If we want it even better, we could even compare it to ISPs from a neighbouring country but they are not perfect either. Please do check out issues and problems face by the folks there, different kind of problems. For example, they faced "an islandwide fibre broadband outage last year that left some 490,000 users cut off from the Web. The outage on Dec 3 that lasted for nearly 24 hours affected close to 90 per cent of Singtel's fibre broadband user base.". Of course, their government took action. As such, let's enjoy what's available right now and hope for the best. This post has been edited by toffy: Dec 2 2017, 04:55 PM |

QUOTE(kuanzc @ Dec 2 2017, 04:19 PM) Hi, I have a Huawei Echolife HG8240H BTU, and I tried accessing to its web interface by plugging it to Port 2 (Tried port 1 to 4 as well) then setting static ip to 192.168.100.99 and subnet to 255.255.255.1 and tried to access 192.168.100.1 on a broswer but it just doesn't load though. Have unifi decided to seal off the access to the BTU completely? or am I doing something wrong? Just curious, why would you want to configure the BTU? It is a custom-made stuff for TM.I doubt we are suppose to 'touch' it. There's a lot of 'hidden stuff' there. That's why it is the only component that's given lifetime warranty by TM. QUOTE(DeadmanX @ Dec 2 2017, 05:22 PM) Last I checked on Lajadah, it is about 340+ Malaysian Dollars If you want to spend your own money, might as well buy a higher end one. QUOTE(y561994 @ Dec 2 2017, 07:25 PM) It was just a wild guess or a joke Maybe it is not a $$ issue but process issues. It is not like just go to Lajadah, add cart and make payment. There are approvals to be issued, as part of their IT governance. QUOTE(DeadmanX @ Dec 2 2017, 07:42 PM) That's not too bad then. I'm using Asus RM300+ now as well (not atm, no unifi now lol) It depends on the stock carried by the technician. C1200 is one of them. Maybe you could call up the technician and ask?Think some cheapskate applying Lite planning to ask for RM10 upgrade later can ask for this router? Btw, I have both the dustbin router and coffeemaker router. QUOTE(fruitie @ Dec 2 2017, 09:08 PM) After waited for one whole day, nothing was changed. Sorry to hear that. QUOTE(fruitie @ Dec 2 2017, 09:24 PM) I was thinking, why didn't the technician just leave the new router with you so that he doesn't need to come back and just let the backend folks at TM to turn on the pipe?Do you still have the Xiaomi router to test it? QUOTE(choonsern @ Dec 2 2017, 09:26 PM) wanna ask those who have upgraded 50 to 100mbps with that RM10 offer. I don't really feel any diff. Youtube loading still the same. QUOTE(chaos32 @ Dec 2 2017, 09:49 PM) Mine did show 100mbps before technician appear but the last few days, speed has been unstable and getting slower and slower - till the point my upload is faster than my download. Turn the BTU off, waited a minute, back on again - speed returned to 100mbps. Which Speedtest did you use? TM's or the speedtest.net?Sometimes the speedtest just hang. Not sure how much should i trust it. My speed is intermittent but not as bad as yours (DL lower than UL). I forgot to mention that, all this while, I am using wifi for speedtest, which are usually good and stable. I know LAN has better speed but my LAN connection of my notebook ada problem. QUOTE(choonsern @ Dec 2 2017, 10:09 PM) I think it depends on the nature of your usage. Downloading could be faster but it is still limited on where the website is located. As for surfing, I don't really feel much difference yet. Maybe i should test some more.QUOTE(soonwai @ Dec 3 2017, 03:31 AM) Interesting. I wonder why they do that. To exercise such fine control over the time of the activation. What's the purpose? Doesn't make sense to me. Why not just activate at the beginning of the installation day or the day before? I think the activation will only proceed once the technician confirms the readiness of the equipment and line. This is to prevent TM from starting to charge on the new speed (pro-rate) when the user's site is not ready. If they charge too early, I am sure the user will make noise This post has been edited by toffy: Dec 3 2017, 11:26 AM |

QUOTE(soonwai @ Dec 3 2017, 03:17 PM) Yeah, the microwave is especially bad. When its magnetron is on, it floods the 2.4GHz band, red parts below. Spectral scan done on my Mikrotik RB2011 upstairs 20 ft away from the microwave downstairs. Wow! A special device to perform a spectral scan?NB: Sample is with KFC inside microwave, results may differ with other food. I doubt the fridge poses any real interference (but microwave oven sure does) maybe the compressor inside it. The fridge itself blocks signals, so it dampens the wifi. I think a reflective surface like a mirror also cause problems? So if I put McD inside the microwave, I may have better results? Any difference between putting in french fries vs a burger? QUOTE(choonsern @ Dec 3 2017, 03:48 PM) Is there a need for a technician to check the modem/BTU?QUOTE(OKLY @ Dec 3 2017, 04:39 PM) SMS I received for upgrade installation on 6th December. However I just received a call from TM saying it will be on 5th December morning slot. I hope this sudden change doesn’t screw up the activation of the new speed when the technician comes. Good luck! Hope they turn on the pipe in time to avoid any provisioning problems. This post has been edited by toffy: Dec 3 2017, 06:55 PM |

I suspect the privileges including activation, BTU upgrade/unlock code and port number.I doubt it allows them to have a high broadband speed with low price, to avoid abuse la. QUOTE(lyc1982 @ Dec 3 2017, 04:55 PM) How about speedtest.tm.com.my?QUOTE(Captain Coco @ Dec 3 2017, 05:03 PM) HyppTV is not free but they give discounts as part of the package. So when you subscribe to unifi, it gives the impression that you will have free TV channels la. Too bad we cannot remove it, otherwise most of us would remove it already to reduce the price (unless you don't have Astro lo). On the other hand, if HyppTV could get some of Astro's key channels, I am sure there is no need to have Astro already. This post has been edited by toffy: Dec 3 2017, 07:00 PM |

QUOTE(Neptern @ Dec 3 2017, 07:42 PM) DL 850L is cheaper. Not sure about other places but I found it being sold at RM285 at Lajadah.Archer C1200 is at least 300+. So 850L is the cheapest 'recent' gigabit router supported for Unifi. The quality and performance are a separate discussion QUOTE(OKLY @ Dec 3 2017, 08:11 PM) Why does TM advise that connection will be disconnected one day before the install date? Any particular reasons in doing so? I don't see need for the disconnection, maybe perhaps for a very short while for the new speed to be activated and stabilized?QUOTE(firdausbhari @ Dec 3 2017, 08:37 PM) managed to downgrade 850L to 2.06 (mine is without the TM logo) Cool, no more @unifi as the postfix for SSID then. QUOTE(Captain Coco @ Dec 3 2017, 11:00 PM) Just called TM - actually for new package, they free Hyyp TV.. now i am paying RM139 + GST for 30MBPS, inclusive Hyyp. Good to hear that I am not aware of any package that doesn't include HyppTV. If it is included, it cannot be removed. You may want to check your bill and see if there is a charge for HyppTV. If there is, the given discount will cover it. It doesn't matter if it is free or discounted. The main thing is, you cannot remove it and most importantly, you are happy with the price you paid for (if not, at least is the price that most of us are paying, according to the package tier). |
