I still have the plastic wrapping on the antenna but not the main body of the router.
I thought it would be easier to clean with the wrapping? lol
Anyway, my router is sitting on top of a metal platform, which sits on top of a small cabinet. Plenty of space for air to flow on top and bottom and even on the sides (but not the back).

Does it look like a coffeemaker?

I read that if we upgrade the firmware from it's default version, the rebooting time is faster, but after the bad experience I had with the dustbin can, I am not going to upgrade it.

Btw, you had only one line item in your unifi dashboard for 'Promo Discount Perpetual' right?
Does it apply to both the Promo Discount RM150 and UniFi Special Discount RM50?

I believe those who already have Astro, would rather have HyppTV removed and get reduction in monthly subscription fees, than to have any extra channel.

I doubt you can do this. Either you hack the firmware (harder) or downgrade the firmware (easier).

I am curious too. One thing for sure, those having 100Mbps do not have these bundled... or maybe some did but are keeping quiet?

If you roll back, security issues are possible but chances are not high. It was reported that for the 'unsafe' version, only about 200 subscribers are affected. As long as you don't allow remote management, you should be quite safe but not 100%. So you have to choose between the security and the freedom not to have @unifi as part of the SSID.

Definitely free publicity when people scan for wifi. That said, those who are already connected to the internet, would have know what unifi is, or most of them anyway.

I suggest to take it easy. It is just HyppTV. If they don't have the sufficient encryption in place, just don't use it lo. I think they either haven't renew the cert or is using a self-signed cert. No ISP is perfect. Furthermore, they are GLC or something like that. Malaysia boleh mah.

True. The @unifi is an 'add-on' they put when they patched the loopholes in the previous firmware. So it is not part of the solution itself. At this point of time, we have to accept it. It is going to be a long time for Time to offer services in landed houses. I guess the pricing may not be worthwhile then.

Just wait a while. They will put in the Special Unifi Promo RM50 soon. The challenge is, I couldn't get a definite answer of whether Perpetual applies to it too lol

I am curious if this applies to normal technical support problem. I experienced a few times that when I logged a report on a Friday or Saturday, they are supposed to come in next working day the earliest (Monday). But they called me on the next day morning (although it was weekend) and checked whether they could come in an hour or two. I was not ready for them to come but I was impressed.

Not sure but it is best to use the latest firmware regardless of whether router/AP/repeater mode. So far, I have already upgraded it and used it as AP without problems.

So what could we do with 2 BTUs? Spare BTU in case one fails? What's the failure rate for the BTU?

The kitchen appliances especially the microwave oven and the fridge are the main culprits. Even your wireless desk phone also produces interference. On top of the suggestions to use powerline and repeater, you could also pull a long cable to the kitchen but it is a hassle and not cheap. How often do you need wifi connection in the kitchen?

TM have a record of your BTU and will know if it supports 100mbps. The 'code' they used is RG4.
I am not sure about the record for the router though.

Good that you care. But it is not about 'tidak apa'.
'Take it easy' here means you have already done your part and you have await it to take it's course. This means you have reported the issue to them and keep checking with them until it is resolved. Whether the ISP wants to do something about it, is beyond you already unless you join their management team. Another option is to go to court or bring it up to the parliament level, but that's too extreme. Perhaps writing an article and publish it in the news could helps things somehow. In that case, this means one do really care

Whether Time or Jaring is the best or better doesn't help the situation here, not currently. It is not available to some folks like us. If we want it even better, we could even compare it to ISPs from a neighbouring country but they are not perfect either. Please do check out issues and problems face by the folks there, different kind of problems. For example, they faced "an islandwide fibre broadband outage last year that left some 490,000 users cut off from the Web. The outage on Dec 3 that lasted for nearly 24 hours affected close to 90 per cent of Singtel's fibre broadband user base.". Of course, their government took action.

As such, let's enjoy what's available right now and hope for the best.

Just curious, why would you want to configure the BTU? It is a custom-made stuff for TM.
I doubt we are suppose to 'touch' it. There's a lot of 'hidden stuff' there.
That's why it is the only component that's given lifetime warranty by TM.

Last I checked on Lajadah, it is about 340+ Malaysian Dollars
If you want to spend your own money, might as well buy a higher end one. Or you plan to use your own and sell this one?

I want to ask a few stoopeed questions. How do I find out if I could see the Jumbo pack punya channels? Just find out if there are sports channels etc via HyppTV? Anybody watching BBC channels?

It was just a wild guess or a joke . It seems strange that there are problems for a simple cert.
Maybe it is not a $$ issue but process issues. It is not like just go to Lajadah, add cart and make payment. There are approvals to be issued, as part of their IT governance.

It depends on the stock carried by the technician. C1200 is one of them. Maybe you could call up the technician and ask?

Sorry to hear that. A long wait that has not been fruitful. I think only soonwai, you and probably 1 or 2 members here faced similar problems. As for the rest, no technician needs to come, or the speed has already been provisioned when the technician came.

I was thinking, why didn't the technician just leave the new router with you so that he doesn't need to come back and just let the backend folks at TM to turn on the pipe?
Do you still have the Xiaomi router to test it?

I don't really feel any diff. Youtube loading still the same. The only diff is the 'shiok' feeling of seeing the results in your SpeedTest (providing you achieve more than 100mbps la. If you only get 90+, then you get frus instead).
Were you from 30 to 50 previously? Did you feel any diff?

Which Speedtest did you use? TM's or the speedtest.net?
Sometimes the speedtest just hang. Not sure how much should i trust it.
My speed is intermittent but not as bad as yours (DL lower than UL).

I forgot to mention that, all this while, I am using wifi for speedtest, which are usually good and stable. I know LAN has better speed but my LAN connection of my notebook ada problem.

Using local servers? Which speedtest website?

I think it depends on the nature of your usage. Downloading could be faster but it is still limited on where the website is located. As for surfing, I don't really feel much difference yet. Maybe i should test some more.

I think the activation will only proceed once the technician confirms the readiness of the equipment and line. This is to prevent TM from starting to charge on the new speed (pro-rate) when the user's site is not ready. If they charge too early, I am sure the user will make noise

Wow! A special device to perform a spectral scan?

I doubt the fridge poses any real interference (but microwave oven sure does) maybe the compressor inside it. The fridge itself blocks signals, so it dampens the wifi.
I think a reflective surface like a mirror also cause problems?

So if I put McD inside the microwave, I may have better results? Any difference between putting in french fries vs a burger?

Is there a need for a technician to check the modem/BTU?

I suspect the privileges including activation, BTU upgrade/unlock code and port number.
I doubt it allows them to have a high broadband speed with low price, to avoid abuse la.

How about speedtest.tm.com.my?

HyppTV is not free but they give discounts as part of the package. So when you subscribe to unifi, it gives the impression that you will have free TV channels la. Too bad we cannot remove it, otherwise most of us would remove it already to reduce the price (unless you don't have Astro lo). On the other hand, if HyppTV could get some of Astro's key channels, I am sure there is no need to have Astro already.

DL 850L is cheaper. Not sure about other places but I found it being sold at RM285 at Lajadah.
Archer C1200 is at least 300+.
So 850L is the cheapest 'recent' gigabit router supported for Unifi.
The quality and performance are a separate discussion

Cool, no more @unifi as the postfix for SSID then. If you have no worries about the security loophole, then you are fine. There are other versions but these are not supported for Unifi.

I am not aware of any package that doesn't include HyppTV. If it is included, it cannot be removed.
You may want to check your bill and see if there is a charge for HyppTV. If there is, the given discount will cover it. It doesn't matter if it is free or discounted. The main thing is, you cannot remove it and most importantly, you are happy with the price you paid for (if not, at least is the price that most of us are paying, according to the package tier).
