Let me break down the pricing.

1) 70-200 F4 L IS = RM4K +/-
2) 70-300 USM IS = RM2.6K +/-
3) 580 EXII = RM1.6K+

You already have wide to mid + tele covered with your ready lenses. You don;t have a flash. The 580EXII would be the primary choice. Unless you want to get better glass eg: L Glass. If you're looking for IS you could also go for both the 580EXII and the 70-300 4-5.6 IS USM and still be around the same price as the F4 L IS itself...... icon_idea.gif

A handy,affordable walkaround L Glass for your Event,Indoor,outdoor & sightseeing. = 17-40 F4 L for RM2.4K +/- drool.gif

Hi Julchin,
Hows urs. 30D coupled with L lens. I'm sure it work remarkably. Furthermore in the hand of good shooter. Back to the topic, my 75-300 USM I found not so good compared to 17-85 USM IS. Its not so sharp, the colour and contrast is quite upset me compared to another lens of mine. Need to do much post processing. Thats why I'm looking for another telezoom. About the 70-200 well I prefer 4L. Its just fit my budget. Whats the price now?
Hey, I want to see some of ur shoot with L lens. Come on. Show lar. Poison me...

Sharpness is truly an issue. As for the pricing for the 70-200 F4 L IS, Check my post above.

Woo bro, just a minute. Its out of my budget. I just looking for a used 70-200 F4L non IS for a time being. So a can buy both the lens + the flash. Maybe I can grab one if I'm lucky. So how u feel with the lens of urs. Quite heavy I think. Need monopod / just handheld is adequate? rclxm9.gif

Hmmm.... If you ask me, I'd say hold your purchase of the 70-200F4 L . Might as well get the IS one, or the f2.8....... Unless you get a good deal for a 2nd hand f4 L. My lens is not heavy and is the main reason I chose this instead of the f2.8. Its half the weight(700g+) of the f2.8(1.2kg+/-).... so it is easier for me to bring around with other lenses. Don't really need monopod to support the weight cos lens plus camera = 1.3kg +/-. If get a lil tired, just hang around your neck for a while and ease those muscles.... I like the lens, except it can be a bit noisy at times... AF noise....

Personally, I'd prefer the 24-70 f2.8L as a superb general lens drool.gif But you could buy three 17-40 f4L for that price...

Oh I see. Hmm... but it would be equal to a 38mm wide which won't be that wide after all if used on the 350D/400D/20D/30D Bodies sad.gif. THough you have a point there as that focal range it the most used in general that is..... The EF24-105 F4 L IS is another alternative as well plus its slightly cheaper..... If I had the dough, I'd go for the EF16-35 F2.8 L II... drool.gif

It really is a personal preference. I've used the older 28-70L and 17-35L and I still prefer the 17-35L for my day to day shots. The super wide angle gives a perspective that's just more unusual and interesting.

No I actually have only used the 17-35/2.8L for extended amounts of time. This is the old super-wide L lens before the 16-35L came out followed by the 17-40L. This was around 1998-2002 timeframe I think. Those were the days when I had money biggrin.gif

The 16-35L is definitely better than the old 17-35L according to reports I've read, it's definitely a worthy upgrade. I don't know much about the 17-40L unfortunately.

Yeah. Normally newer is better. The older IS Systems used to be 1stop, then 2-3 stops. The newer lenses with IS can go down 4 stops....

As for the 17-40 F4 L, its a great buy primarily because its priced so low yet its an L lense, produces great images, Expected good weather sealed build quality and the lightest L Lens around. No wonder its Canon's best selling L lense.... drool.gif

While newer is sometimes better for zoom lenses as technology improves, many prime lenses are still as they were when they were originally introduced 10-20 years ago. I used the Canon 20mm and 50mm primes extensively and they haven't been upgraded.

However I agree that IS technology is superb and only getting better. I tried the Canon IS binoculars in the early days and it's spooky biggrin.gif

Guys,
Do you noticed that the LCD is slightly "warmer" than what you see from your pc?
