When you do sidemount do you mean to dive for longer time? I remember last time when I went diving with a friend who did sidemount the entire trip...and he has to face downwards when we were at surface. biggrin.gif

I think I'm feeling a bit of vertigo. No severe headaches or anything like that. I walk fine, I hear fine but I do feel like the world is twirling a bit every now and then. Was fine on the day of dive, Monday and Tuesday. Only yesterday I started really feeling it also with a slight headache. No bouts of vomiting or anything like that. I'm flying back to KL today for a vacation to Laos on Friday. Should I go see the doctor or something to check my ears?

Probably wise to get it checked, hopefully it's not a perforated eardrum or something like that!

The killer use for sidemount is diving overhead environments - when you need more gas to maintain reserves and still have a meaningful dive, redundancy in your gas supply, and ability to unclip tanks to get through restrictions.

But if you just want more gas to dive longer, some places let you rent bigger tanks.. which is much easier biggrin.gif

I'll go to the clinic once I get back to KL tonight. This is a real spanner to my plans. Balls.

You can dive longer if you ignore your decompression limits or if you use nitrox. Other than that its just you can suck all the air you want and still not run out.
Yes there is a tendency for the low on air tank to push your face downwards at the surface. You just need to unclip the bottom of the tank from your waist and hang loose. I am no expert with this also because I need more practice.

is there a relationship between how much air you consumed within the same amount of bottom time with likeliness to get decompression sickness? Compare 50 minutes with 150 bar vs 50 minutes with 300 bar (I assume SM config is both 200 bar).
Not sure if this was taught during OW lessons, either way I don't know.

I am not a medical doctor so i cant give you an accurate answer but I dont think it has that much of an effect. DCS is more related to depth and amount of fatty tissue you have. You breath in more Nitrogen if you breath in fast but you also breath in more Oxygen.

Vertigo after diving? DCS until proven otherwise! No la just kiddin. The timeline makes it less likely. Sometimes a recent upper airway infection may have caused some fluid congestion which can lead to this. Or barotrauma to the eardrums causes fluid to build up in the middle ear. In any case, if your eardrums are intact, odds are it'll resolve on its own.

Well, it is recognized that heavy exertion when in depth is a risk for DCS. So theoretically it could be due to taking in extra air at the bottom, which means taking in extra compressed nitrogen into the system. But these things are hard to quantify. To take double the air either means with the same lung capacity, you're breathing twice as fast (which halves the time for diffusion to happen), or your lungs are twice as big, in a twice as big overall system (which dilutes the effect). So many factors at play, so hard to prove.

I went to a clinic near my hotel before I went to the airport for my flight back to KL. Coincidentally, doc is a DAN certified doctor, also has AOW certification. Doc checked my ears and said nothing wrong. Just gave me some meds to help with bloog circulation. Hopefully everything resolves itself so I can go on lepas sure dives once I get back to KK.

I think prices in Australia are more competitive in general... but I ended up getting an extra battery for my light, a spool, and listed my name for a trip to Bunaken.

Thought about getting a new Gopro but decided to put it towards a trip or something else instead. Changi duty free has really good prices for that btw.

Bunaken is being planned as a wide angle trip. I'll take shots from the air and boat, and my friend's on underwater duty with the reefs and splits smile.gif Really hope we get glassy water surface while we're there!

Hello, Which DC are you going to do your AOW with?
Good luck and have fun. AOW is easy.
