Actually MIDE is a very good place for newbie to explore gadgets.

Not necessary to buy, but to see and feel it.

The 2nd sentence is not that easy unless you leave your credit card and ATM card at home. Hahaha. Usually the poison is pretty strong at MIDE.

yes i mean that, the turning on 1st stage  rclxms.gif
wow, those softer hoses need to change for every 2month? no matter use or no use? does it expensive?
i mean this type of hose
user posted image

if request for din tank, normally will it be any extra cost for that? confused.gif
*
I have been using Scubapro one with the turning on 1st stage as you are looking for. I have also used rental regulators and other random friends regulators who don't mind me using their regs. And honestly, I don't find any differences. My hoses are pretty short too.

From what I understand, the softer hose doesn't last as long as rubber hose.

Hi sifu, may I know whats the famous brand/important criteria when buying a rash guard?

And any typical price range?
*
I like Ripcurl ones. Basically the only important criteria is that you look good in it.

Unless you are looking for something more than a rash guard, like sharkskin kinda top where it's windproof and blah blah blah. Rashguard doesn't really do anything other than prevent you from being sting by whatever under the sea (doesn't protect you from triggerfishes either) and making you look good.

Yup. I draw, write, attach polaroid photos to it too.

Hi, anyone keen to join me and my friends to dive in malapascua island next year around Labor Day with devocan divers?

Will upload their MIDE offer package list once I’m back in KL
*
Ya, please upload their pricing. I'm in the midst of booking Malapascua for December with Fun & Sun.

Hi updated post
*
Thanks. Ahh it's in USD.

Did you see the package by Fun & Sun? It's in MYR and I believe it's also cheaper, includes full equipment too. Not sure about the quality of the resort and dives though.

Fun & Sun was amazing when I was diving with them in Coron. They said their Malapascua team is larger though. Please do report back on your trip with Devocan Divers after you go with them laugh.gif

I second doing rescue locally. I feel that one will learn much more and have much more practice, which is especially important during your rescue course. Going to the island for the OW rescue dives and scenario will be much more fun when you already have all the theory and practice dives get over and done with.

Hey guys, real interested to learn diving and get my open water license. Is it recommended to go diving during the days of Sept 8 to 17? Its close to the beginning of the monsoon season I presume?
*
September is fine. It's perfect time for diving.

I've done November in east coast islands. Never try that lol.

People also dive in Tioman in December sometimes.

I just finally got my powered mask and I must say it is sooo much better using the mask compared with using the contact lens. If water comes in you can clear and be off without any worry about the stinging water causing you to lose your lens.

Further, I find it much more comfortable to not worry about things.

But on side note, If you are doing shore dive like I was doing in Tulamben, will mean you will walk on shore from Dive Center to beach (includes crossing the street and walking around in some carpark/kampung whilst wearing a stupid mask on you at all times unless you want to bring a box to keep your glasses and leave it with every tom dick and harry who just decides to lepak on the beach).
*
Haha that’s cause your lenses always goes missing somehow.

Contacts > powered masks anytime. Especially if your power is >500.

Most annoying one is if it comes off and sticks to your lens... its just sitting there taunting you. If you open mask water will wash it out...
*
Haha it's like you can see it but you can't get it.

I think it depends on the person if they are comfortable with contacts in the first place. Those that have been wearing contacts for some time shouldn't find any issues with it unless they open eyes underwater.

Anyone know or heard bout “waterproof” brand of wetsuit? I am still searching for a full wetsuit.
My area mainly sell bare and mares, and some model size are limited. Looking for something good quality. How is bare? Newbie here and I afraid I regret of saving the some and eventually found it has weak point that cause me uncomfortable under water
*
Bare and Mares is very commonly used and available. Their quality are so far so good, reasonable for the price you pay.
I generally don't think wetsuits can cause any discomfort underwater. It's just a matter of how much comfort you want. If you have the money, go try out 4th element wetsuits. laugh.gif

Hi guys,

Does anyone knows how long will the bus journey from KL - Mersing take?

And if I were to take the 9am ferry out from
Tioman, will I be able to catch the 12.30pm bus in Mersing back to KL
*
Bluewater ferry? Don't know if they still specialise in delays these days.

We have been caught in ferry for hours before, delayed for hours until we almost extend our trip. Coming back from Tioman to KL can be leaving Tioman before the sun rise and reaching KL after the sun sets. laugh.gif
Anyways, sometimes you can be lucky. wink.gif

Tg Gemok jetty apparently seems to be more punctual.

thanks for the info.

first time taking bus and using mersing jetty so I'm kinda lost here.

But if i were to take bus in tanjung gemuk back to KL, where do i actually get onto the bus ya?

dont remember seeing any bus station around the TG jetty the last time I'm went.
*
Don't think there are busses directly there. Private transports yes.
Hence why there's less people there and why Mersing is packed with all sorts of locals and tourists.

The variety of wetsuits in Australia is like choosing which shopping mall to shop at in Klang Valley.

Guys, anywhere to get powered dive mask in Malaysia/KL? (I am shortsighted and won't wear contacts).

Most places I went diving with provides them but went for a couple simple snorkeling trips and they don't have it. Used swimming goggles but they are a pain in the ass.

I decided to just get my own and bring it along on each trip next time.
*
Just pop into any dive shops and ask for it. Pretty much all the dive shops does sell them.

The logic is there's no logic behind it. It's just an excuse to have a beer in the pool. laugh.gif

QUOTE(hamstrex @ Jul 26 2018, 11:52 AM)
how about COSMIQ + anyone use before any good ? bad?
*
It's quite new if I'm not mistaken. Would like to know what are the reviews on this as well.

Most people use Mares and Suunto. These 2 brands are quite reputable and reasonably priced, with Suunto slightly higher. Replacement, repair and service parts are also easily available.

ohmy.gif  because i am actually looking for one which doesn't require maintenance for at least 4-5 years or perhaps lifetime..
*
Does your maintenance-free requirement include a lifetime lasting battery?
Most dive comp battery lasts 1-2 years or so. Some can change it yourself, some you have to send it to a shop to get it changed and serviced. Again, if you are looking for a reputable and reasonable dive comp with hassle-free (not maintenance-free) maintenance, then maybe go for Suunto or Mares.

Is Tenggol suitable for fairly new divers like me? Got a freidn asking me to go with him for a Tengol dive day trip with him next week and a slightly longer one at the end of next month.
*
Tenggol currents can be quite challenging, especially during full moon and new moon. I've experience crazy strong currents there before - had to crawl on rock and decided to abort dive those type.

If you are a fairly inexperience diver, make sure to make it known to your dive guide/dive master. If you are unconfident or uncomfortable about anything, anything at all, voice it out. Tell someone, ask somebody. We all learn thru experiences so don't be afraid to face a challenge but just make sure you take all possible precautions when you do so. People do go to Tenggol to get their OW certificate, and there are less challenging dive sites, so I think you will be fine.

Anywhere recommended you guys suggest in Peninsular for me to go take my Advanced. PReferably one I'm able to use my credit card and the charges is OK.

The best one is the one that has a good instructor that you like and trust.
Most big dive centers accepts credit cards anyways.

anyone encounter attack with the Trigger before?

got my first encounter last December.
got ambushed by 2 trigger tho.
that gigi still in my mind.

1 went for my face.. 3 times, nasib got my pointer.
cucuk cucuk the trigger while ascending slowly (is this the correct way? soz, never kena before)

1 went to my fins.

guess was near to the nesting. -.-'
*
Have never dived without a wetsuit ever since. This was bitten thru my 3mm wetsuit.

If you ascend, you are just asking for more trouble. Triggerfish attack zone is an inverted cone. You need to swim away from it, without ascending.

I know of ppl got bitten thru their wetsuit and booties at the ankle after surfacing while waiting for boat to come. Bleeding.

Im thinking of doing the Rescue Diver course but i don't want to do the EFR on the island. Is there anywhere in KL/Selangor that i can do it before i go diving ?
*
There are so many places that will certify your EFR in KL/Selangor.
Just go to any dive centers in KL/Selangor and enquire about it.
