I hate LCD. Today develop another 1 dead pixel with total of 3. If there 50" CRT HDTV I take it over LCD anyday.

Hi all experts,

If my purpose of purchasing a LCD TV mainly for Astro and DVD viewing, is the below a good option? As from what i've gone thru in the forum, Astro looks really bad on LCD. Your opinion will help me alot in making a good decision.

Thanks guys.

Yeah. Thought it looks not bad for the price. This is the only thing that stopping me from getting LCD when i saw it in Jusco.

As my main use is for Astro and DVD viewing, i guess it is a good option since Astro with LCD sucks.

Hope more expects can provide some opinion on this "3LCD Projection TV"

okla, thanks alot guys, since i'm a total noob in this thing, i will trust experts opinion, LCD it is then. smile.gif

i will go and have a price check on a few shops again tomorrow.

i assume i need to buy a HDMI DVD also right? since normal dvd player wont give me HD effect.

btw, how much is the S Video cable and HDMI cable?

frm what i understand tru reading this thread, S Video cable is for Astro, HDMI cable is to connect to HDMI DVD. Plz correct me if i'm wrong.

You can buy a DVD which has HDMI output but you won't get HD. Basically because its only DVD, which is 480p. Unless you buy an up-converting DVD player of course or say play your movies on a PS3 or an Xbox 360.

S-Video cables costs around RM15-30. Try to find the cheapest one. As for HDMI cable, I've seen as low as RM75 but many are selling around RM90-120. Not too sure though.

You won't get true HD via upconversion. However, after extensive testing of the action scene from The Incredibles, all I have to say is the movie surely looks damn good on LCDs. Tested a few LCDs, Samsung R8, Sharps PX5 and Silencer's TV. smile.gif

The Incredibles? You should never use an animation to test the quality of upconversion.

Try testing again using an fast-paced action movie. I guarantee you'll see the difference. vmad.gif

Incredibles action sequence is not good enough for that? Everything's moving on the screen pretty fast to me.

Hmm..... what's a good fast paced action movie ? Damn, now that you mentioned it, I don't have any fact paced action movie. tongue.gif

Saving Private Ryan OK? Matrix? Fight Club?

Erm, it is not quite correct. The current Denon DVD-1930 and DVD-2930 can upscale video signals up to 720p, 1080i and 1080p. The 2930 is using the REON-VX chip which is better than 1930's Faroudja chip.
