hey guys, i know this is a hd-dvd thread, and i don't mean to be off topic here. but i just gotta know sumthing:

i saw a demo of blu-ray at best denki..on a full HD bravia lcd. the quality was fricking amazing...i mean i thought i was watching those sony advertisements...you know..where they have this 'studio' camera and everything is sharp and crystal clear? but NO..it was actually Day After Tomorrow playing...then followed by A Knight's Tale, and Narnia with the exact same quality.

now my question is...is this because of blu-ray tech..or is it because it's blu-ray + full HD tv?

what happens if u play HD DVDs on a full HD tv? will there be any significant change as we take advantage of the 1080p reso? hmm.gif

arj: i'm just using a measly 27 inch Samsung LCD..S series (IINM) with HDMI.

don't get me wrong, i think i'm pretty much satisfied with HD DVDs since they totally give a different experience (well, the ones with great transfers at least) and with HDMI to boot, the colors/contrast just get better.

well, maybe it's true the ones i see were demo discs, so they probably had the good scenes going. actually now that you guys mention it...the scenes were indeed crystal clear..but when fast motion scenes..there were some blurring..and kind of a ghosting effect, but very very subtle. kinda funny for a full hd, 100hz tv...so maybe it's the disc?

but yeah, when you buy those great hd dvd titles (e.g. 300, hot fuzz, bourne ultimatum) with awesome trueHD audio..man it's a total experience.

so if arj says it's really no difference...then those demo discs just BS'd me.. laugh.gif

ah well..

p.s: arj, already placed order for pan's? smile.gif oh if you have any titles you wanna sell, just ask me. i'll buy if i'm interested.

planning to buy children of men, the departed when i can afford to. feeling like buying heroes as well..for the extras. w00t!

terra: yep i get your point. silly me, but i forgot all about difference in size and the machine. tongue.gif

aaaanyway, since we're using the add on, i guess it wouldn't have that much power to churn out the maximum of the hd dvd if i were to play it on a full HD, 32 and above incher tv huh?

in any case i still think HD DVDs rock. it's like coke and pepsi. not only it's red vs blue, but hd dvd is like classic premium quality, and blu-ray is its more edgier, funkier counterpart but in the end it's both high def. just like pepsi and coke ends up being carbonated colas.

arj: wow that's really fast. amazon likes you kot...always order hd dvds. laugh.gif anyway, UGPM bro.

oh and about the sales..no sweat; i understand what u mean, me being a movie freak and whatnot. just trying my luck..teehee tongue.gif

w00t! susah la want to challenge bro string...hehehe loaded setup!

say..i've been wanting to get a good budget surround sound system for my room..kinda small room..so gotta take echoes into consideration.

right now i have an altec lansing 2.1 system..old system for my PC. using the audio jack adapter for my x360.

so what do you guys recommend, for me to get:

- surround sound to take advantage of the 5.1 dts sound from hd-dvds
- not too big a setup to accommodate my small room
- budget : not more than RM 1K (if possible)
- extra: should also have an extra audio input for my PC

thanks you hardware gurus! smile.gif

string: yea..i agree. good thing you know the prices. definitely you would save a load compared to shopping here man. smile.gif anyway..what do you mean when you say satellite system? is it the ones normally used with PCs?

hmm..tht would be better i guess..since my room is kinda small for a towering sound system.

so..any of u guys gots recommendationzzz? hmm.gif so far xeno's creative is something to consider. how much ah bro xeno tht 4.1?

hey dudes, as u can see i'm such a noob when it comes to audio systems.

after searching..i actually rebumped into this speaker that i thought of getting once for the x360..but it was between edifier m3500, or the edifier r501.

a thread summed it up and said r501 is better, and it's about 400 bucks.

now my question is, since this is supposed to be a PC speaker, and when i look at the manual, the back panel has the 5.1 line in jacks and also a line-in jack.

from the diagram, the 5.1 line ins are for inputs from left, right, center, and heavy bass audio signals...which i assume should be from the 5.1 PC sound card if you're using a PC.

the standard line-in jacks would also receive inputs from anything besides a PC.

my question: for the x360 hookup, i assume that you could only be able to hook it to the line-in jacks. but doing so, can you still get 5.1 sound?

sorry if this sounds ultimately n00bish...you can laugh all you want...i allow it. but could anyone clarify on how the setup should be if i were to use r501 and x360 for gaming and hd-dvd watching? tongue.gif

bro string, any inputs?

thanks man! nod.gif

You can only get 5.1 audio by using optical, hdmi or 5.1 analog. So in your case, you can only get 5.1 if you use optical cable.
*
okay..so i think i know where to plug the fiber optic cable on my x360 (using the audio adapter since video using hdmi), but i couldn't see where should i plug it in the R501.

the speakers don't have optical cable input. which means it would only receive 5.1 analog (which i assume that means separate cables for left, right, center and bass)..and how do i go about doing that with my x360 eh? i mean how would my connection be like from the x360?

UPDATE: whoops..bro string just answered my question. no can do with analog since r501 doesn't have hdmi or optical inputs.

bummer....back to the lists again i guess.. laugh.gif

Hi,

Thank you for contacting MS.

In response to your query on getting a 5.1 surround sound from XBox 360 without using the HDMI or Optical output, I am sorry to inform you that officially, you can only get the 5.1 surround sound using the two mentioned options.

Please do note that a Z680 Logitech 5.1 speaker with both Optical and Coaxial digital input is selling for <>RM900.

If you insist you to use the R501 speaker, i suggest that you go to Jalan Pasar and get an amplifier with Optical input for <>RM250. But makesure that your R501 speakers can sustain the power output of the said amplifier.

Good luck and hope you enjoy our xbox 360.

Susie Susanti

you can try look for that creative decoder DTS-100. it works nicely with r501.
*
thanks bro. so basically, the decoder is like an intermediary thingy rite? x360-decoder-5.1 speakers.

good idea..but now how much is the decoder? all u know it would end up being the same as a low end HITB system. sweat.gif

@ bro Judge: thanks bro for the suggestion. anyway, don't worry bro..a cheapo entry level suggestion is what i'm looking for. 1st, i don't have a big enough room to fit a theater system. 2nd, i don't have the greens to spend.

well..maybe i could target 900 or lower..see how cheap i could get the decoder.

thanks bro!

well...let's just see. but shit...all u know...that explains my sudden interest in blu-rays. maybe they'll win after all.

looks like either i wait for the multi format player to come out and sell my add on, or just get a ps3. hey at least i get to watch blu rays and only buy ps3 exclusive games..the ones worth it.

about the format war, meh..i'd just watch and wait. if blu-ray 'wins', i'd probably buy a ps3 then. no harm done.

or at least i'll rob commando, and take his ps3 away...bwahahahahaha!!! *evil grin*

aiyak...no hd-dvd ke? i thought NCFOM is under paramount whut?

I think the war is making some people confused between which to choose...so in the end blu-ray + hd-dvd = blur-alredy dvd

hahaha i use all my money to buy xbox 360 and ps3, end up no money to buy hd-dvd, and blu ray.

so what to watch? blu ray tak dapat, just watch blue movie only la. internet got lots of free ones.

oh yea..and rumors are going around that paramount may be switching to blu-ray exclusive. but the reason why is kinda dodgy...they say there's a clause that they will be supporting both formats until warner bros turns to blu-ray exclusive.

kinda convenient don't u think, this rumor? hahaha well whatever it is..i truly feel that...i would prolly need to get myself a ps3 anyway to watch blu-ray.

just realized that i missed casino royale on blu-ray.

so what can hd-dvd support? well..the adult films of course!! bring on the 69ers on my 16:9-ers!
