QUOTE(rx330 @ Jan 18 2008, 10:49 AM) everything extra 100 usd can make a difference... and i still haven got my amp yet.. Brother RX, A35 lah ....... you won't regret it. It can output TrueHD and DTS-HD via HDMI. When you get your new amp, it will be a perfect match. so how? A3 or A30? Sadly, the bulk for Toshiba HD-DVD players in the bulk thread have been closed liao so need to cari our own lubang to buy it. There are a few sellers in eBay but their shipping method is a little bit inflexible, just USPS air mail or EMS the most. Can't choose DHL or FedEx. |

For those who have purchase the HD-DVD add-on for xBOX 360.....
How's the performance/clarity of playing HD-DVD? Is there any restrictions in terms of region for HD-DVD? Reason I ask is if i were to purchase HD-DVD from Amazon.com do i need to worry that the HD-DVD would not be able to play on a "Asian xBOX + HD addon"? Do we get a free remote if we purchase the HD-DVD add-on? How much does it cost? Thanks!!!! |

QUOTE(neophaze @ Jan 21 2008, 11:01 PM) For those who have purchase the HD-DVD add-on for xBOX 360..... I go to my friends house many times to watch his HD-DVDs... despite me being a Blu Ray guy, you have to admit some movies are not out yet for the Blu-ray..How's the performance/clarity of playing HD-DVD? Is there any restrictions in terms of region for HD-DVD? So...about the quality..not as good as the standalone HD-DVD players... On its own the HD-DVD player is really good if you got a good TV... and yes it comes with the remote. So in my mind its worth it... |

QUOTE(neophaze @ Jan 21 2008, 11:01 PM) For those who have purchase the HD-DVD add-on for xBOX 360..... Taken for what it is, rather than what it isn't, the HD DVD drive for Xbox 360 offers the most affordable way of jumping into HD movies. You can still get up to 1080i via component, or 1080p over VGA (and HDMI as well, with the newer Xbox 360). It also loads movies considerably faster than certain standalone models. On the audio side, sadly, you do not get the luxury of the high resolution audio formats such as Dolby True HD or DTS HD. The optical output can't carry the necessary bandwidth to support those formats. Instead, they will be downsampled to Dolby Digital or DTS. Which still sounds better than standard DVDs anyhow. It's still worth the admission price of jumping into HD movies IMO.How's the performance/clarity of playing HD-DVD? Is there any restrictions in terms of region for HD-DVD? HD-DVD news updates ...
Universal: "No Plans" to Abandon HD DVD Fending off continued speculation that Universal is mulling a switch from HD DVD-exclusivity, Universal Studios VP (and HD DVD Promo Group Co-Chair) Ken Graffeo says that the studio has no plans to make any changes in its high-def strategy. In a just-published interview with BetaNews.com, Graffeo termed reports that Universal is wavering in its support of HD DVD as "unsubstantiated," saying the studio has "no plans to make any changes." ![]() Graffeo went on to point to Universal's recent announcement of 'American Gangster' on HD DVD as proof of its continued commitment to HD DVD, promising "a lot of other things" to come. Asked whether he regretted the eleventh hour cancelation of the HD DVD Promo Group's CES press conference (a move that some interpreted at the time as a white flag from the group), Graffeo said the timing of Warner's surprise Blu-ray exclusivity announcement two days before left the group with little choice. "Imagine the orchestration of a press event with the presenters, the scripts, the entire presentation, videos that were produced," explained Graffeo. "The crew was already setting up and we were on a plane on Friday, so not being able to get back to everyone to say 'how do we make a change for Sunday' was very difficult. And what are the answers? We had no idea because we were reading and hearing about Warner's move the same time everyone else was." Source: High Def Digest |

QUOTE(horray @ Jan 23 2008, 10:35 AM) I'm torn between the Onlyo 705 or the Yamaha 1800. Both in the same price range. Tested the 705, sounded bright and clear. Have yet to test the 1800. I'm more inclined to the Yamaha. The Yamaha 1800 is slightly more expensive if I'm not mistaken. Should be around RM3,800 isn't it? |

@ rx - good buy. HK sellling for HK$3,880.
@ bighead - yamaha sounds warmer. if music is your main use, then get the yammy. but onkyo "future-proof" for home theatre usage. my 2 cents. i won't be upgrading anytime soon. For me, next upgrade MUST have >6 HDMI inputs. So waiting for AVRs to catch up to the day when lotsa HDMI input is the norm. Right now, only 2 AVRs have that many HDMI ins. Don't want to go the HDMI switcher route if possible. This post has been edited by terranova: Jan 23 2008, 02:40 PM |

QUOTE(horray @ Jan 23 2008, 03:56 PM) I went to ask Hi-Fi Choice Penang, he said RM3,650 is the lowest he can offer but still out of my budget. I was hoping it to be below RM3K if possible. Who knows, may later got cheaper midrange amps from Yamaha that can do DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD leh, right?QUOTE(rx330 @ Jan 23 2008, 04:04 PM) You like black colour too? Phew ...... I thought I'm the only who likes a black coloured Yamaha AV amp. |
