Seems like most upcoming new developments are in East Malaysia.

I guess Peninsula folks will just have to look and admire sad.gif

Completion targeted in Q3 2021, that's more than 36 months for EPCIC - seems like a sizeable development.

Just wondering, do banks still have that prejudice against people in the oil and gas sector, when it comes to loans and mortgage applications ?
I previously heard about this during the downturn but not lately.

To the experienced people in here notworthy.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif :
How many years of experience is generally recommended for those considering the shift from permanent positions to contract positions ?

From what I see, the pros for each case :
Permanent Staff : Medical benefits, allowance for accommodation & transport, stock options, career progression (assuming good relationship / cable with management). Slightly lower chance of getting cut during bad times.

Contract Staff : Higher (even astronomically high) take home pay, and the flexibility to choose how to spend it (not everyone wants stock options etc).

Shocking to hear of ongoing retrenchment in Malaysian PSCs, especially since Brent has been back ~ $70 / barrel for several months now.

Yup. JX Nippon deepwater Sabah project team tutup kedai. Their Sabah deepwater is not economical to develop on current oil price.

I’m curious to know - at which stage of the project did they decide to stop - Conceptual / FEED ?

My guess is the development is stopped at end of FEED. They should have completed the FID prior to detailed design and found out it’s not economical based on a certain crude oil price.

But there had been a few rare instances when the whole platform development was stopped at the end of detailed design. One real case in the 90s when Occidental decided to ditch its Msian business and sold its interests to another operator. They’ve done detailed design of a CPP. When Shell took over the field, the CPP was reduced to being a normal wellhead platform! I bet that development by Occidental was the most costly theoretical detailed design of a CPP!
*
Thanks for sharing the Occidental case - my working history doesn't go that far back laugh.gif

On a side note, it's now been almost 4 years since the oil price collapse in Q3 2014 - quite sad that we're still hearing about retrenchments, project cancellations etc.
We need to see the light at the end of this very long tunnel !

It’s been more than a month since the Pengerang incident - any findings / reports on the root cause ?

I’m guessing that as a minimum, a preliminary report should be available at this point.

I heard SBM culture, hire a lot people on contract basis. When the contract ends, they release them, keep only one or two people stay. Then, hire again other contract workers.

Don't most companies do this nowadays ?

I know a few Shell personnel who are involved in futuristic unmanned platform development for Australia but based in Menara Shell. They work from here to support the development you dont have to be physically base there.

Repsol Weighs Potential Sale of Malaysian Assets

https://www.rigzone.com/news/wire/repsol_we...160773-article/

QUOTE
Repsol could be the latest oil company looking to monetize its investments in Malaysia, following rivals such as U.K.-based Petrofac Ltd. and Exxon Mobil Corp. Last year, Murphy Oil Corp. agreed to sell its portfolio in Malaysia for $2.1 billion.

I wonder what is it about Malaysian assets that's making these companies want to exit ?

Or is it simply that other assets around the world are providing better returns ?
