As far as employment emails go, this is about as generic as they can get.

It doesn't state your name "Potential Employee" and doesn't state the position concerned. It doesn't even state the asset but provides 12 different fields (with an "etc." after that) instead.
Even automated emails nowadays state your name and position.

The second paragraph is the most suspicious to me - they considered your "social responsibility" ?

I'd be very sceptical on this. My 5 cents.

Before this Ian is very positive about the backlog project can accommodate everyone and no one will layoff. Now its different.

Heard within 2 years they want to exit malaysia, and relocate the engineering centre either to Gorgon or Chennai

It’s likely to be motivated by cost pressures, but Malaysia has got at least 2 fabrication yards capable of delivering major topsides. Add SG into the mix and being in KL makes a lot of sense for interface and logistics during the Construction & Commissioning phases.

Does India have any yards of similar capability ? (I’ve never heard of it, could be my ignorance though).

Petronas urged to give Sarawak contractors priority when awarding contracts

https://www.theedgemarkets.com/article/petr...rding-contracts

KUCHING (June 27): The Sarawak Petroleum Contractors Association has urged that Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) give the state’s contractors priority in awarding contracts related to oil and gas exploration in Sarawak waters.

Its pro tem committee chairman Datuk Rahman Lariwoo said the contract jobs could be handed over to contractors from outside Sarawak if local contractors are not capable of carrying out the tasks.

"If possible, we want all jobs available in the Sarawak waters to be given [first] to oil and gas contractors in Sarawak as we believe most of them are experienced in drilling rigs right up to production of oil and gas," he said after chairing the first pro tem committee meeting here today.

He said contractors in the state are experienced as they had been involved in the oil and gas industry since 1910, adding that currently Petronas only gives 30% of contract work to local contractors.

To date, there are over 400 contractors in Sarawak registered with Petronas, he said.

He added that these contractors are involved in jobs ranging from providing catering services to oil and gas field engineering and exploration services.

As such, he called on all local contractors to join as members of the association to add voices in urging Petronas to give them priority when awarding Sarawak oil and gas projects.

He said the association would also cooperate with the state government and Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (Petros) to further boost the industry in the state.

Shell Expects Up To $22B 2Q Impairment Charge

https://www.rigzone.com/news/shell_expects_...162583-article/

Royal Dutch Shell plc revealed Tuesday that it expects aggregate post-tax impairment charges in the range of $15 billion to $22 billion in the second quarter of this year.

The company’s integrated gas segment is anticipated to account for between $8 billion and $9 billion of the impairment charges, according to Shell, which highlighted that these would be primarily in Australia and would include a partial impairment of the QGC and Prelude asset values.

Shell’s upstream segment is expected to account for between $4 billion and $6 billion, largely in Brazil and North America shales, and the company’s oil products business is expected to account for $3 billion to $7 billion across the refining portfolio.

These impairments are anticipated to have a pre-tax impact in the range of $20 billion to $27 billion, Shell outlined. The company highlighted that the range and timing of the recognition of impairments in the second quarter are uncertain and noted that assessments are currently ongoing.

“In the second quarter 2020, Shell has revised its mid and long-term price and refining margin outlook reflecting the expected effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and related macroeconomic as well as energy market demand and supply fundamentals,” Shell said in a company statement posted on its website.

“This has resulted in the review of a significant portion of Shell’s upstream, integrated gas and refining tangible and intangible assets,” Shell added.

Shell expects Brent to average $35 per barrel in 2020, $40 per barrel in 2021, $50 per barrel in 2022 and $60 per barrel in 2023.

Earlier this month, Shell’s fellow oil and gas major BP plc revealed that it expected non-cash impairment charges and write-offs in the second quarter in the aggregate range of between $13 billion and $17.5 billion post-tax. The implications of these charges were described as “very real” by Wood Mackenzie.

I find it odd that bid information (MMHE's commercial bid being lower than Sapura) is discussed openly like that on LinkedIn.

Aren't details of the bids supposed to be subject to confidentiality?

Hello,
Does anyone know which project is this for?
Saw it on LinkedIn:

"Oil & Gas opportunities for you & please slot in your appointment with me to discuss further.
1) EPCC - Three wellhead platforms plus associated subsea infrastructure (Malaysia)

2) Subcontract- Engineering scope (Malaysia)"

I realized that this lady by the name of Nurhani Mishan from NES Global is actually on a fishing expedition to obtain CV's.

For one of her previous posts, a close colleague of mine sent a perfectly crafted CV that has similar experience (including FPSO's from a main contractor), yet she did not come back to him.

I'm just curious - what's the end goal when recruiters do this? To prepare bid packages for future projects? Or to sell the database to 3rd parties ? hmm.gif

More of having database (maybe selling - I have 50 pipeline engineers CV which you can review).

In fact, if you look at her posting, about 6-7 months she has been posting for the same vacancies (Aker Solutions not MISC).

MISC recruitment through several companies and they actually do hire.

Yikes, must be damn annoying as a candidate to see the same position they applied being advertised for months.

I know because I’ve seen a job being repeatedly posted for more than a year now lol. Power sector though.

Tenggelam sudah.
Incredible stuff. I imagine a lot of people must be having sleepless nights now - probably a long incident investigation and examinations ahead.

I wonder what the insurers are gonna say about this.

Even more challenging is that all the physical evidence is under the sea - so investigations will require vessel mob, dive crew/ROV.

Not to mention the project schedule - having to inspect and approve another rig, procure materials, equipment prep etc. Do drillers usually have a backup rig for campaigns?

Also, is it possible to mobilize another rig and drill nearby while salvage / investigations are ongoing?

My god, I guess this is what you call a Herculean task.
