What happens to Repsol staff? Do they get a severance package from Repsol even though they transfer on to Hibiscus?

They will be hiring for this project.

Winner will get EPCC project

Chemicals (PCG) is the client.

Does that mean that these initial hires will be for short term contracts? Extendable in the event of EPCC award?

Currently O is busy with Kasawari part; which was sub to O by big M. They include Flare Jacket, 3xCPP Jacket piles, Flare boom and a minideck. Sailaway targeted around June 2022.

Actually guys, why the abbreviations? haha, this is publicly known information right, subcontracts arent necessarily a secret especially in O&G with websites like upstream online and LinkedIn :

I saw a job ad this weekend for a Lead Reservoir Engineer role based in KL.

Requirements included Honours degree or MSc in Reservoir Engineering,

Minimum 20 years of experience in Petroleum-Reservoir Engineering, etc.

All this seemed normal, but then I read....

"Must be able to speak Thai."

How is speaking Thai a mandatory requirement for a Lead Reservoir Engineer role based in Kuala Lumpur? I found it really surprising to be honest. I've seen some requirements before from international companies (with HQs in non-English speaking countries) and with offices in Malaysia, but they usually mention that these languages are "nice to have but not mandatory".

Also, Thai isn't exactly among the major international languages, so this requirement drastically narrows down the number of possible candidates.

Not posting the ad here since there was a moderator's warning sometime back for job ads to be in another section.

Sarawak govt urged to intervene over Petronas' move to give contract to non-Sarawakian firm

https://www.theedgemarkets.com/article/sara...sarawakian-firm

QUOTE
KUCHING (Oct 3): The Sarawak Petroleum Contractors Association (SPECA) wants the state government to intervene over Petronas’ recent decision to award a contract to a non-Sarawakian company for less specialised works off the state’s coast.

In a statement Sunday, president Datuk Rahman Lariwoo said one of its members who participated in the tender for the provision of alternative blasting and painting for Petronas Carigali found out that the job had been awarded to a firm based in Peninsular Malaysia.

“The contract is to provide equipment, manpower and consumables for the alternative blasting works offshore Sarawak. This scope is no rocket science (not requiring highly expert knowledge) and there are a lot of Sarawak companies that can provide it,” he said.

Rahman said without the state government’s intervention on the matter, Sarawak companies involved in the oil and gas industry would be frustrated despite continuing to improve themselves to get better and fair treatment from Petronas.

“The award of the tender is not according to the Sarawak government’s objective to have more Sarawak companies participating in its oil and gas industry,” he added.

No mention of the contract value. Looks like a lot of scrutiny on Sarawakian contracts, bid winners will be examined under a microscope lol laugh.gif

I suggest Petronas publishes the winner bid price along with all the bidders' bid prices to show that the tender was awarded based on technically qualified bidder and commercially lowest.

I am assuming that the job award was based on that criteria laaaa.......  whistling.gif

This issue will recur in the future every time Malayan contractors win oil&gas jobs in Sarawak.

Haha actually I thought the same thing too about the publishing of bid results - the closest I’ve seen is the LSS3 bid opening prices which were published by Suruhanjaya Tenaga (but they don’t reveal the company names though).

https://www.st.gov.my/contents/2019/LSS/Bid...August-2019.pdf

On a side note, the contract in the news article was for alternative blasting techniques (which I’m assuming is non-grit type such as waterjet or some specialized ones like spongejet) - if the company holding the license for the technology for Malaysian market is based in Peninsula, then it’s a possible explanation. Then again, like the article mentioned, it’s definitely not rocket science biggrin.gif

KUALA LUMPUR: Dialog Group Bhd’s wholly owned subsidiary Dialog E&C Sdn Bhd has been awarded an engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) contract worth RM360mil by Petronas Gas Bhd.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, Dialog said the contact is for the provision of EPCC works for Southern Transmission Improvement and Readiness Project in Kluang, Johor.

The oil and gas support services provider said the works involved the EPCC of a new booster compressor station with associated equipment and facilities in Mengkibol, Kluang. — Bernama

Brent crude price has been stable above USD70 since the past 7-8 months (currently USD78.8). This should open up new field developments activities and recharge of many frozen brownfield projects in Malaysia.

If this Omicron virus global menace tapers down quickly next year, the oil&gas industry will see some good growth in 2022 onwards.
*
While I agree with your take that the barrel's price stability will encourage new field/brownfield developments, the article you were responding to seemed to be more focused on the lack of new discoveries required to replenish existing proven reserves. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this requires exploration work to add to a company/country's proven reserves.

Oil Production Vessel Explodes Off the Coast of Nigeria

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/202...oast-of-nigeria

An oil production ship exploded off the coast of Nigeria in what may prove to be the nation’s second major environmental setback in three months.

The Trinity Spirit, able to store about 2 million barrels of oil, blew up early Wednesday, Shebah Exploration & Production Co., which has the vessel on lease, said in a statement. The ship can process up to 22,000 barrels a day, according to the company’s website.

While no fatalities have been confirmed, 10 crew were on board the vessel when it exploded, according to Shebah. The company said it is investigating the cause.

The incident puts increasing focus on the oil industry’s environmental legacy in Nigeria. In November, a well operated by independent producer Aiteo Eastern E&P Co. blew, spewing oil and gas into the air and surrounding river for five weeks before it was capped.

As international companies such as Shell Plc sell their remaining onshore and shallow water assets in the country, activists and local communities fear they will retreat without addressing widespread damage allegedly caused by decades of pumping oil.

It’s unclear how much crude was being held on the Trinity Spirit. Data published by Nigeria’s state-owned energy company show no production from Shebah’s permit in 2020 or 2021, while the country’s oil regulator announced in mid-2019 it was revoking the license.

The vessel was still on fire Thursday morning, Idris Musa, director general of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency, said. “From the environment angle, we are putting in efforts to prevent damage beyond the current burning of the contents” of the ship, he said.

Ah okay so this is the Eni project in Angola, vs Yinson and MISC.

I've never seen a company advertise positions like this when there is no certainty in contract award though.

I think it’s common practice nowadays

Hi all,
How do you go about determining the "market rate" for your current/future roles?

Do you:
1. Ask your network, seniors?

2. Ask recruiters via LinkedIn?

3. Look at job ads with salary information (damn hard to find these in Malaysia)?

4. Check websites e.g.Glassdoor ?
Or reports from recruitment companies e.g. below (from what I've seen, these reports tend to be very broad across industries. But would be great to know if there are more industry specific reports).

Which one has provided the best results?

Specifically I'm talking about the upstream O&G industry in Malaysia. Would really appreciate any inputs on this. notworthy.gif

There is no such market rate for MNC.. you take it or leave it.. but most of the MNC offer good range of salary. You can query your contact in the MNC to obtain details of salary range for each level.

For Expatriation, you can check the index through https://www.air-inc.com/ (Petronas is using this). But you need to pay for the data/calculator. There is other web offer the same service.  smile.gif

Thank you, yes I understand it's often a "take it or leave it" kind of situation for specific companies.
Hopefully one day I'll be able to use that expatriation website link you shared smile.gif
