Most likely the long delayed and much anticipated Kasawari EPIC project. The CPP will be the heaviest float over platform in Malaysia!

So Kasawari is a go? Is there any other "major" project besides that in the offing?

Says the FID is still due in Mid 2020 only. Why so long?

Here you go:

Malaysia Marine & Heavy Engineering (MMHE) is in direct talks with de facto parent Petronas about the engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning contract for the central processing platform for the oil company’s delayed Kasawari sour gas project off Sarawak, East Malaysia.

MMHE and its partner, UK-headquartered TechnipFMC, have been awarded a letter of intent for the CPP job, though that conditional award is based on the same price that the contractor pairing bid around 18 months ago, industry sources said. They added that discussions now are likely to be focusing on the price issue.

The Malaysian contractor is seen as likely to want to secure a better price for the EPCIC contract given the recent oil price recovery and the fact that other costs and material prices have increased.

One source suggested that as long as the revised price tag falls within Petronas’ budget scope then it is likely that a contract award can be agreed.

However, compatriot Sapura Energy has not yet given up on the prize, according to sources, despite having a busy order book already.

Sapura is waiting in the wings and would be ready to engage with Petronas if talks with MMHE falter, said one source, although Upstream understands the operator could also revert to another open tender — potentially with international competition.

Petronas last year invited MMHE and Sapura, the only two Malaysian yards capable of undertaking such a large and complex platform project, to go head-to-head for the contract.

The Kasawari CPP is expected to include a hefty topsides of 23,000 tonnes and a 15,000-tonne jacket that will require the largest float-over installation in Malaysia’s offshore history. The platform will form part of the facilities to exploit the giant gas field located on offshore Block SK 316.

Petronas is expected to take the final investment decision on Kasawari in mid-2020, providing it can agree amicable terms with the Sarawak government, which wants a greater say over and participation in the state’s oil and gas operations.

Wood Mackenzie reckons first gas from Kasawari could be achieved in 2025.

The consultant’s modelling anticipates peak production of 670 million cubic feet per day of gas from the sour gas field — earlier estimates had been as high as 900 MMcfd — although this will likely not be achieved until as late as 2032 given constraints in existing pipeline infrastructure.

Gas from Kasawari would be used as feedstock at the Petronas LNG Complex at Bintulu.

Both MMHE and TechnipFMC in Malaysia are said to be hiring many staff, likely in anticipation of the Kasawari prize. MMHE is looking to fill a raft of contract positions including construction manager CPP topsides, fabrication engineering manager, lead structural engineer and structural designer for substructure, hook-up lead and offshore installation manager plus a finance manager for its KL office.

In January MMHE secured a new six-year frame agreement from Petronas to provide EPC services for fixed offshore structures. This frame agreement comprising package A — structures weighing more than 7500 tonnes — and package B — structures not exceeding 7500 tonnes — allows for work to be awarded on a mini-bidding basis for all oil and gas projects in Malaysia.

MMHE chief executive Wan Mashitah Wan Abdullah Sani said at the time: “This award is a reflection of continued trust in our ability to execute projects and to deliver the desired results. Our aim is to deliver all projects efficiently, without compromising on safety and quality.”

Both MMHE and TechnipFMC are said to be frustrated with the delay in awarding the Kasawari platform prize, which had last been expected in early 2019. However, these months pale beside the time it has already taken to get this project off the drawing board. It was more than four years ago that the partners pre-qualified for the contract, alongside South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries with Ranhill Worley and a joint venture of Sapura and Saipem.

Kasawari EPIC LOA issued.

But UpstreamOnline says FID is only in mid 2020?

EPCIC LOA just issued today, or been a while? Do you know the contract award value? Will it be announced tmrw?

Technip with MMHE just got LOA for Kasawari EPIC.

Technip’s looking for mid level engineers for all disciplines.

I'm curious though...if they've "got" the LOA, why are they not announcing it?

Finally...MMHE is awarded the Kasawari project. Any idea what the project total value is estimated to be? The article fails to mention it.

https://www.theedgemarkets.com/article/mhb-...tronas-carigali

The project, awarded to Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Sdn Bhd (MMHE), includes the construction of 47,000 tonnes of Central Processing Platform (CPP), 8,600 tonnes of Wellhead Platform (WHP) and a Flare Structure, together with two bridges linking the CPP to the WHP and the Flare Structure.

The contract also involves the transportation and installation of an 85-km pipeline linking the Kasawari CPP to the existing E11R-A platform, the group said in a filing today.

Heard a few rumours lately, would appreciate if others could share if they heard the same or confirm the rumours are true.

1. Kasawari - long lead items LOI/LOA are being held up by Technip, expected to be released within 2 weeks.

2. Bayan MOPU - expected to be awarded soon to EPC as FID is approved.

3. Limbayong - project delayed to 2021 or 2022 for FID.

4. Rosemari & Marjoram - FID approved in December and bid expected to be released soon

5. E08 - expected to move as SHELL obtained a PAC/PSC for 30 years.
Let me know if anyone have heard these rumours...TQ

Was Bayan tender already out?

6. Jerun CPP EPIC tender bid is out. Bid closing end Feb 2020. Planned award mid 2020. That Lumut fabricator is smiling from ear to ear now. I wonder which design consultant they will JV with.

7. Hess NMB Phase 4 EPC tender bid planned 3Q2020. 3 or 4 WHPs.
*
I thought they were running at near full capacity in Lumut? Any chance Pasir Gudang gets it?

Pasir Gudang still very low utilisation and they're going into fabricating for offshore wind farms. Might actually pay off cause they can now charge higher for new projects, other yards seem to be packed.

They have around 35-40k metric ton of fabrication this year with kasawari whp cpp etc.
Not including other small jobs they have been awarded.
*
Their capacity is higher, plus that 35-40k is spread over a 3 year period (2020 to 2022). So their utilisation with Kasawari WHP/CPP in the picture is still under half the combined yard capacity.

Petronas will need a good justification to disqualify Sapura, commercially.

Sapura's competitor financial status is nothing to shout about also.

Which competitor? MMHE has RM500mil NET CASH

What's the status on Kasawari? Still a go I assume since all EPCIC contracts been awarded?

What about Jerun?

And how far away is R&M from EPCIC tender?

Now I can post about MISC and Mero 3. It’s in the news that Petrobras and it’s partners are about to issue LOI to MISC for the charter of an FPSO for Mero 3 field development.

The local engineering consultant that’s been working with MISC for the bid must be grinning from ear to ear now. It’s a potential over 100k manhours engineering job!

It’s a big break for MISC for being able to enter the Brazilian oil&gas market.

Serba Dinamik got the Teluk Ramunia fabrication yard. What's their play here? Was the yard just sitting idle? How come Petronas didn't give it to MMHE?

Petronas needs to pay oil&gas tax to Sarawak govt. So they can't "give" TR to MMHE.  biggrin.gif

So Serba Dinamik gets it because it is a Sarawakian company?

As MERO 3 is ‘conversion’, I believe internal MISC personnel have supported their bidding team on hull requirement before. Should have no any issue as they have OBU team within the company.
.
Base on current update, details Hull engineering will be done by AKER too. That’s why AKER is busy interviewing Marine & Hull peoples. 😊
.
Good for local engineers.

Internal team as in MMHE?
