My advice. Get as much yard & fabrication experience, especially floater and topside modular construction. Trust me. I know.
*
Is quite easy to adapt Floater experience into fix platform..
.
But its quite horible story to ask fix platform consultant to do floater. sad.gif

1) Hi guys. I would like some input on this question. Is there an argument for working in upstream rather than downstream O&G? It seems to me that upstream is commercially more risky (e.g. drilling dry wells, overestimating reserves), so what is the attraction?

2) I also want to ask whether in general it is always better to try to move upwards in the contracting chain e.g. oil major > EPC contractor > Yard making rigs/floaters for the EPC contractor > Yard's vendors. Is there a good reason for this other than just prestige due to size of contracts?

Thanks in advance.
*
1) The attraction of upstream is about payscale.

2) Wherever you are, your knowledge, skill and experience are the most valuable. Hands-on experiences mostly gain when you are with Contractor. smile.gif

Keppel Shipyard range of salary similar to rate in Malaysia. It is just in SGD.
.
If you are 5 years experienced engineer with MYR 4k salary permonth, you may demand for SGD 4k/month lorr..
.
But their annual bonus is awesome.. 6 to 8 months. I'm not sure if they still provide 1 month contractual/annual bonus or not.
.
Good luck. flex.gif

Hi. This might not be the correct thread to ask about my questions so I apologizes in advanced. I am currently a Mechanical Engineering student (degree) in public uni. I need to choose elective for my degree since i take mechanical engineering (umum). I want to enter O&G industry so which one should i choose to study? There are 5 choices:

1. thermal fluid
2. structure and material
3. design and innovation
4. automotive
5. maintenance
*
take structure & Material.. master the finite element software, that gonna be used widely in oil & gas.

The position also available in Singapore, but I always seen 'This position is only open to those who are currently in Singapore or have right to work in Singapore' statement..

Guys, what's the future on FPSO? Especially Malaysian companies like Yinson, MISC, Bumi Armada.
*
Malaysian companies have a bright future in FPSO as long as they do not screw up.. within the ASEAN region, Malaysia have been supported by skilled & experienced engineer from all FPSO company like MISC, SBM, BW, MODEC, Bumi Armada, Yinson, MTC..
.
The latest FPSO EPCC executed from Malaysia or Singapore as follow:
Marlim 1
Marlim 2
Barrosa
Mero 1
Mero 2
and the latest Mero 3 by MISC.
.
Can just hope that all companies not hiring a lot of NATO expatriate despite many local talents available.. 😊

NESGT is based at AKER office..

However, only candidate with FPSO experience have chance been called for interview.

AKER have started work on Topside.. The Hull work will coming soon.
.
This is the time that Malaysian Managers/Engineers have chance to shine because of MCO (During normal days, they love to hire expat even if they need to pay 5x more than Malaysian πŸ€”)..
