QUOTE(cute_pokemon @ May 26 2007, 12:04 AM) Added on May 26, 2007, 12:07 amThe vista has the google power in it. It can search your "keyword" pretty well. Keywords that were typed in doc can be found. But this Google thing can be installed by Google desktop in Win XP too! I didn't installed it in my old Win XP machine because my HD ran most of the time, taxed my performance so much. So as Vista!!! When the HD is running, don't close the lid or it will hang!!! Hardware hang!!! Need to do hard reboot. QUOTE(cute_pokemon @ May 26 2007, 12:04 AM) Worst of vista is even my USB thumbdrive and my external harddisk cannot be used. No driver was found suitable. What the Heck? When connect to my HD sony video cam also cannot found the HD. |

I try update my codecs.. anyway..just mp3..no vids. Added on May 28, 2007, 2:03 pmjust found out tht vista is wrapping all the audio driver n run it on OS...which mean Microsoft removal the hardware audio abstraction layer for Vista http://www.creative.com/press/releases/welcome.asp?pid=12683 1st, since there is a hardware sound card processing, why the hell bother the CPU to process? I personally think this is not a wise choice. 2nd Does it mean the MS trying to monopoly the sound card market too? about the problem i encounter...i need to turn of my sound card enhanced features...at control panel>sound props QUOTE Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) is an initiative unveiled in 2002 by Microsoft to standardize the hardware and class driver architecture for audio devices in modern Microsoft Windows operating systems. Three classes of audio devices are supported by default: USB, IEEE 1394 (Firewire), and Intel High Definition Audio, which supports PCI and PCI Express. Try downloading an updated version of your sound driver. maybe that will helpStarting with Windows Vista, Microsoft requires all computer and audio device manufacturers to support Universal Audio Architecture in order to pass Windows Logo. The goal of the Universal Audio Architecture is to solve a very common problem in modern Microsoft Windows products, that of inconsistent support for audio. Due to the lack of a common system by which audio devices could describe their capabilities to the operating system, not to mention a lack of ability to control those capabilities, audio device manufacturers (such as Creative Labs, Realtek, Turtle Beach and others) have had to provide a series of control panels and custom interfaces to let a user control the device. This, in turn, requires kernel-mode drivers so that the user's actions can be communicated to the hardware itself. Poorly-written audio drivers have been a common source of system instability in Windows, especially with games that make use of extended audio card capabilities. These concerns prompted Microsoft to disable the audio stack entirely by default in Windows Server 2003. UAA seeks to resolve this by putting forth a standardized interface which audio devices can follow, ensuring that the device's capabilities will be recognized and used effectively by Windows, without the need for additional drivers or custom control panels. It also provides a reasonable assurance that an audio device will still be able to work many years down the road, without requiring vendor-supplied drivers for a newer version of Windows. Another goal of UAA is to provide better support for multi-channel audio in Windows so that, for example, multi-channel WMA Pro audio streams can be played without special driver support. UAA is intended to be a complete replacement for developing WDM Audio Drivers; however, in some cases it may be necessary for an otherwise UAA-compliant audio device to expose capabilities that cannot be done through UAA. Windows will continue to fully support audio drivers that use the PortCls and AVStream drivers.[1] |

QUOTE(KingdomChaser @ May 31 2007, 02:19 AM) WINDOWS VISTA GADGETS - do you know there are loads of really cool gadgets for Vista... I'm not referring to the defaults cause those suck. Go to Vista Gadget page to download them. Those are not close to being cool. 3rd party Gadgets that are not realeased on the live galleries are the bestTo list a few fun ones: Vodoo Doll, Calvin and Hobbes, Dilbert, Garfield, Jewel, etc. There is already a thread on the Desktop Customisation section. |

32 bit has only up to 3GB supported. 64Bit can support up to 128GB. Thus using a 4GB ram on a 32bit Vista is useless

QUOTE(Humping^Panda @ Jun 4 2007, 11:13 AM) u need to close your sound hardware enhancement. You are dead wrong. I updated my Audio driver and Vista used the SoundMax Driver instead of the default audio driver. As of with all the Windows before it, it will chose to use the best and latest driver, and the SoundMax driver IS certified Vista ready. Go research first before misinforming ppli think tht will do.. ASUS driver wont a thang the reason u having this problem is tht the VISTA is forcing everyone to follow their "so call AUDIO standard"...the VISTA is not using your SoundMAX Audio Driver.VISTA is using their own. so dont even bother to update your driver. go to sound props then turn off your hardware sound enhancement...cheers! welcome to best buggy vista. Added on June 4, 2007, 11:22 am just bcoz wanna change os?..kinda expensive thing to waste for. ![]() |

The Audio Standard are basically the extention of the AC'97. thus it's developed by Intel, and not Microsoft. Microsoft only added Firewire and USB 2.0 default support to that standard

The problem IMO is with HALO, and not your driver. It seems that the game is incompatible with the driver

In a sense. You would still get infected if you don't have a decent firewall or antivirus. But the UAC will try to prevent worms running malicious script behind your back, even tho it's a bit annoying. The base of Vista is not XP, and because of the low usage of vista currently, XP is more prone to attack than Vista.
