Gosh.... that's really sad.... the poor joeys at Pet Safari...

No pics ah? Yah, normally their pouches will bulge, I saw 2 gliders with joeys before at different times... I even got to feel one hahaha but this I made sure that the glider is tame, not stress and didn't try to attack me.

No, I'm not free for the whole weekend. You must not be scared of her. Holding her is easy. I told you to intro you hand everytime during feeding. The rest, you must learn on your own lah. Holding and taming is very simple, just hold as if you are holding a hamster. If you always show that you are afraid of her crabbing and holding her, she will then not bond with you as she knows she can't trust you.

Crabbing and hissing are all natural noises a healthy joey that has not bonded would make. Normally bonded joeys won't make such sounds anymore unless scared to bits by something.

Gliders know when to bully us, so we must not show fear or stop bonding with them. Every touch and holding brings you a step forward.... it is a slow process, cannot just over night become tame and comfortable since most joeys these days are not bred by home breeders but more commercial breeders....

Once we get joey, we officially become parents hahhah. Coz joeys are like babies, they cry when scared or unhappy, they scream when when unhappy... they poo and pee non-stop LOL.

Kalau tepung susu, get susu kambing lah..... the cheap milk from petshops or supermarket tak bagus..... kena beli yang harga RM20 lebih.... dan kena lactose free.

Yups... both different types of glider I think.... coz features are different. I have never seen joeys like Chloey and Joey B.... round faces with shorter tails hahahh. Cute. Dakota was actually quite skinny but with great care, Reanne managed to make Dakota fuzzy already.

This week, Rihanna and Chloey should be between 7 to 8 weeks.... as I am unsure of their correct age, this is only estimated since I did not breed them lah. Both are healthy so that is great.

if not duduk bas susah la
somemore lately so many bus crashes kinda scary
rather get home breed if they are available la
lol
later today gonna go visit a few more other pet shops
*
Penang... have you tried Toby Pets? Well, I have no idea where in Penang can you get a joey but you should ask all petshops and maybe request if they can bring in for you. There are no serious hobbyist breeders in Penang I think, so that's the best way I can think of. Johor got a few.... but Penang.... I'm clueless.

Kp,yup Chloey loves the PINK pouch.  wub.gif
She's slightly better already,less crabby.
When my hand reaches her,she still crabs.

Planning to do Bra bonding now,
but scaerd that she'll jump away from my body.  tongue.gif
*
Wah.... so long and still crab? You must touch her more often. As said before, don't be afraid.... when she crab, don't remove your hand, just keep touching and stroking her.

If you cannot stop her from crabbing everytime she sees your hand, then it would be hard to do bra bonding coz you will have to use your hands to place her and catch her if she roams too much...

Make her trust you first lah hahahah.... make her familiar with your hands and voice. Even when she is inside the pouch, just poke the pouch and make lots of movement with your hands. You have to make her get used to all sorts of sudden movements and noises.

crazymouse_yyh never went to toby yet most probably this weekend
are they hard to breed ?
are they as bad as breeding hammys ?
*
A glider can only breed twice a year... each time only 2 joeys.... so comparing them with hamsters is a bit wrong lah. Gliders can live up to 10 years while a hamster is only 2 years.... so breeding only twice a year makes them, well, low in supply.

Once bonded you can get a 2nd glider. Stick with females loh since you already have a female, trust me, it is much much easier. Normally after 3 months, you can get another glider....

QUOTE(krynzpeaches @ Aug 23 2007, 10:06 AM)
Haha, Chloey loves pink... tongue.gif

Let her be more familiar with you before doing bra/inside shirt bonding, scared she's not use to it and might wanna run out.

Once you can successfully put your hand in the pouch without her crabbing at you, than you know you have gained something wink.gif
Tsk, tsk, tsk... Sorry to say, but I hate it when people ask about 'are they hard to breed...' Gives me the impression of impulse breeding...

I must say here that if you intend to breed them properly with the aim to achieve good, healthy and quality joeys, YES, they are HARD to breed because the food intake and proper housing has to be taken seriously.

I think I have mentioned before about it is best to get same sex pair to prevent breeding. Stick to female+female or male+male. Unless you can get neutered male + female. It is best for both the owner and suggies.

A lot needs to be taken into consideration before breeding suggies. So please reconsider even if you say "when I have them long enough, sooner or later wanna breed them."

Ask more questions if you must and we'll try our best to guide you.
Hun, yes, in general gliders breed twice a year. BUT, for captive gliders, they CAN actually breed all year long. It may not be as frequent as hammies, but it can be more than twice a year. It's a proven fact for all captive animals that they breed more often in captivity than in the wild or nature. I'll search back the information about this and share with you.

Actually whenever your 1st one is bonded, it should be okay. The sooner the better, so that the age gap will not be a problem.

I think it depends on the environment too. So far, I hear homebreeders only having joeys twice a year..... I think this is more like average lah. Maybe there are rare cases where they breed 3 to 4 times a year.

QUOTE(krynzpeaches @ Aug 23 2007, 12:57 PM)
You can search in GS or buy from petshops, just make sure that they are NOT too young...

Most breeders also are commercial breeders, you can't take their word for word too because I have found that most of their practise also appx. 70% wrong.

Search back on the few pages in this thread for ref on why NOT to get them too young and how they look like.

You can bring them anywhere you like while they're sleeping. Just avoid too loud places like concerts and such. Movies have been proven okay once you're suggie is used to that level of noise.

If you're suggies are inseparable, you can bring both, no harm.

If you imagine taking your suggie for a stroll in the park while them perched on your shoulder, think twice, they might just hop off you and explore the whole park. Always carry them in safe pouches.

So true.... the suppliers here are selling away joeys as young as 3 weeks OOP also got..... kesian the joeys. Then after full research, gliders are sensitive to lactose so the only milk which we can feed them is Pets Own, an Australian brand but only limited shops sell this.

If the poop looks solid but feels wet, is ok. This is normal with milk diet. As long the poop look like toothpaste consistency then is ok. Only worry when it is cair like mash potatoes lah hahahah.

Added on August 24, 2007, 10:01 pmA lot of people now impulse buy.... and one thing I dislike is when people say "Aiyoh, so expensive... like that I don't want" Come on lah, what to expect from an animal that can live for 10 years? Rm300 is nothing loh for the companionship of such an adorable creature.... and I am glad the price is around there so it can stop quite a number of impulse buyers to purchase..... but then sadly there are those who can afford RM300 as if it's Rm30 for them and buy later, never care, complain bitey and smelly, then resell or "lepaskan" into the wild.... pity pity.....

Goodness.... that is seriously young. We do not encourage people taking joeys that young as many have experience death.... The seller is really unethical. If I know that seller, he will get a piece of my mind hahahah.... and I guess a few people here would wanna do that too.

Anyway, anchoviez, do lessen the amount of corn. Yes, gliders love corn coz it is sweet and tasty but it is actually bad for their health. It is super high in phosphorus, calcium wise is very low. You can endanger their health if you feed loads of corn like that. I normally give a few kernels of corn as treats only, nothing more.

Senseless, a bit like a few drops is ok.... but it is actually dangerous coz gliders can't burp and can cause stomach problems....

Opy,
You can give gliders natural jam that has no added sugar or preservatives.... no marmalade coz it is citrus... The jam is more like a licky treat. Just give as a treat coz too food too high in sugars can cause gliders to have diarrhea.
