Haihhh, gliders are gliders.

They are not human.

Things that are good to us can be bad for them, some can even be lethal.

They are after all exotic animal and their diet is very tedious, thus need extra care and attention to this.

Hmm, Cheaka, how do you put the cricket in the fridge?

Would be an alternative to keeping them.

In a tupperware or zip loc also can?

QUOTE(Vio @ May 17 2007, 01:48 PM)
ok thx again for the advice. But while playing if let's say he is sleeping then start moving
in his pouch then later on followed by crabbing sound. does this show signs that they don't like it?
*
Could be he is waken by surprised and is surprised or scared thus he crabs. Last time when Iggy crabs, I would try and hush him slowly, talk to him and let him know its okay.

QUOTE(kweekit @ May 17 2007, 02:47 PM)
i need desperate help here...my gliders..their tail..the fur shed came of...now like the tail gonna go botak...n the male his belly got no more fur..i dunno wat is going on but pls help urgent!!!
*
kweekit, sounds serious here. Normally if the diet is not right also the fur can start thinning. But best is for you to take it to the vet. If you post the pix also, we are not doctors, we might not know what is wrong. Bring it to a vet asap.

It's the small plastic aquarium. Shud have enough ventilation right cuz the cover got holes. My concern is the size. I don't want it to be dying cuz of the stink lah. That's why I'm only using mealworm at the moment, easier to keep.

Cricket can eat mealworm blink.gif

Freezer sounds good and easy, but I don wan my husband or worse my in-law to find crickets in my freezer sweat.gif

That's why thot wanna quickly freeze them, bake them, then store then away in a container near Iggy's cage wink.gif

CFP, hahh, your mealworms last only 1-2 days?? How come? Everyone can keep them atleast a month. My current batch of mealworms is already 1 month plus.

One thing you have to jaga is to make sure that you do not give them wet food. They can turn rotten. Once kena air also they can die. You have to keep the mealworms dry, so oat is the best thing wink.gif

Sugre, male suggie pee is smelly, but with a good diet it can be less smelly. The smelly ones are normally together with his marking scent, thats why so smelly. There times when they just pee plain pee, it doesn't smell at all.

Also if you want to get a tent, you can try carrefour, last week also I saw them having some outdoor promo including tent. A small one can get less than 40, a big one less than 60.

Hun, I just noticed that the Litter Star memang take a while to act. But atleast right now, when I come back from work, I am not greeted by that waft of smelly smell anymore, it's like neutral smile.gif (Except the times when he just pee ofcourse)

Ohh, I might need you to help me bathe a suggie, can right??

Sugar gliders CANNOT be bathe simply. They cannot stand water.

Please do NOT do it if you don't know. (That's why I ask Hun notworthy.gif )

Bathing also applies for extreme smelly cases only wink.gif

For normal smelly cases, just use a baby wipe and give them a good wipe all over icon_rolleyes.gif

CFP, cut nail easy lar, do it when he's sleeping. You have to learn to do it, cuz for me, nail trimming needs to be done atleast once a week - two weeks.

Hmm, I have a feeling a suggie that is raised well from a joey will have fluffier tails. But if you get an adult like mine, even tho it will get fluffy, but not as much already... hmm.gif

Cheaka, I never give my suggie grapes cuz there is an uncertain thing in it that is not really good for a suggie. If not mistaken it will effect their kidney in the long run. Altho they really like it, we shouldn't be giving it to them, just like corn too.

Hun, on the first night I've set up Luna's cage with Litter Star and all, altho I have the wire floor to seperate it, she puts her hand thru the bars, grab some and started chewing on it shocking.gif It really freaked me out... Will it be harmful to them? They don't really eat it right? They just chew it off right?

I slept near her cage that night so that everytime I hear the beads being scooped up by her little hands, I wake up, go to her cage and say "NO LUNA"... She'll quickly shake it off and run away... She's still doing it once in a while shakehead.gif I checked the Litter Star packaging looking for it to say it's harmful or anything, none, but it does say it's non-toxic... How?

My suggies all rescue case, got as adult also. Now a bit tired cuz keeping them totally seperated, so have to entertain each one also seperately, haihh...

Yeah loh, from pix also can see so fluffy Shurie's tail, she must be really happy and taken good care then smile.gif As for being well behaved, different suggie different one, I also jelous with Kiah and Miko remember tongue.gif

I think male suggies a bit more adventurous and don't like to be held much. Iggy also don't like me to hold/catch him, he will hold onto me or come to me. But Luna seems okay to be held, but right now she is still scared, so I don't pick her up or anything, letting her familiar with my hse first.

Dear Jon,

Okay fine, you have a glider already. We cannot force you to give it up now. So I will try and give my honest opinion and help you out smile.gif

It is true that it's better to keep gliders in pairs or with a companion, but in your case it is not really advisable, not only because of the cage matter, but also because both of the glider has different owner. You have to take into consideration that if they are used to being with each other, seperation can cause stress to them.

Gliders can live longer than 4 years. Up to 12 years in captivity. So after the period of you guys staying together, will you seperate them? Even if it's not 4 years from now, if you guys go back hometown, will you seperate them? I know you might say it's only a few days or week, but even a few days can cause stress to them. My glider wasn't eating very well when I brought him back hometown because of the different environment, had to really pujuk him and be with him most of the time.

Please think about this.

As for feeding, yes, there are people feeding dog food and baby food, these normally comes from commercial breeder which is totally a NO-NO. They are breeding for profit, not quality. Plus by feeding them these can cause harm to your glider. You did ask why baby food is not good and can be harmful cuz it's baby food right? Simple, because it's HUMAN baby food, it's meant for human, not gliders. Same thing goes for dog food, it's meant for DOGS, not gliders. It all goes down to the ingredient. That's why a glider is an exotic animal wink.gif

Remember, some things that are good for human, are NOT good for gliders. And food for another type of animal, CANNOT be a good food for another.

As for your situation not having a fridge, I will not comment on that, although it could be difficult because it's hard to keep things fresh, it is also not impossible. But it requires a lot of commitment for you to get fresh fruits daily and I hope you can do it.

For now, you must provide them with fresh fruits and mealworms. Mealworms are easy to keep, no need fridge wink.gif Just make sure you keep them in a well ventilated container with some oat bedding.

Make sure that your glider gets a variety of fresh fruits, not only apple. You can give them honeydew, papaya, mango, sengkuang, carrot, water chestnut, jambu air and so on. NO grapes, avacado and corn, okay.

I hope this will help you smile.gif

Lastly, if you really love pets, please try not to be lazy to do research. I know you said you have read on glider information here, but there are loads more out there. Now you have a glider, you MUST be rajin okay smile.gif It's not easy keeping an exotic, you must be truly commited, you can ask anyone here and they'll tell you a lot of story.

See, my answer here is so long, almost like reading a research also right? Now tell me if you're lazy to read this? Good things need time, effort and commitment.

Yes, agree with akachester too notworthy.gif

A true pet lover will consider a lot of things, so show us that your commited and worthy of being a pet lover okay smile.gif

Hun, haihh, all this commotion forgot to reply to you tongue.gif

Well, I thot of putting a mesh too, but then there would be no point of putting Litter Star lah right, cuz all the poop and pee would stick on the mesh more... Anyhow, don't seem to catch her doing it anymore, but dunnolah if she waits till I'm deep asleep laugh.gif

She is still such a scardy cat lah, everything also makes her jump. But she eats a LOT... Everything I give her can be finish like pretty quick and no leftovers at all! Dunno if she has a big appetite or evreything I give her is more delicious that what she has been eating before tongue.gif She is small when I got her remember hmm.gif

Haven't started bonding yet, cuz she doesn't seem like she has settled down with the new place yet, but I think gonna start a bit tomorrow lah smile.gif

Btw, I think the mix cannot wait lah till I come over, cuz left for only 2-3 night more tongue.gif

You can't find rep-cal, vionate and zookeeper's secret here in Malaysia.

We really lack of sugar glider stuff, that's why Hun makes the mix, I make the pouch and so on so forth.

There are glider staple food sold around, but they are NO good and the gliders do not like them.

You can substitute the supplement with some others that are available here, but it is very difficult to get the right one and I am not sure which one too.

I think this has been discussed before, you can check on the prev-prev post.

Some things has been repeatedly discussed, that's why we request new owners to do proper research even reading thru the thread, to avoid repeated stuff, so you can't blame the people who seem a bit mad at discussing the same thing over and over again smile.gif
