Will music CDs be taxed?

I have bought music CDs from Japan multiple times before, so far never been taxed. All shipments below RM500.

First time I did this was in 2011, just one CD, shipped using Air Mail - no tax

In March this year, I bought 2 CDs and had it shipped via EMS - no tax either

But my most recent purchase, an anime DVD from Japan got taxed (shipped via Fedex) sad.gif

I've bought music CDs several times from Japan too, but only albums CDs. And all using CDJapan.

Where did you buy them from? And which shipper did they use? (fedex? dhl?)

I've never exceeded 10,000 yen in my purchases before, even with shipping included. So I'm very curious about this.

(WTA) Hey guys. I just ordered Scuf controller (for Xbox 360 console) from US. Total item cost including shipping is ~RM560. Shipping will be handled by FeDex. If my good gonna be detained by Customs, how to appoint FeDex to clear my duty / tax?  cool2.gif

When you bought the thing, did you give the company your contact number as well? Like handphone or house phone no?

Fedex will contact you using that number. They will state how much you have been taxed, and ask whether you agree to this. If you agree, then Fedex will pay customs the taxed amount first.

Then when they come to deliver the goods to you, you give the money directly to the Fedex guy.

But normally when I use FeDex service, the delivery to my address (when item clear out from airport customs) normally been arranged by Gdex. Not sure about how exactly FeDex gonna pay first the duty / tax amount and then they ask Gdex to collect from me 'cashly'?

Eh? First time I heard of that. My last purchase got taxed (a DVD), but I deal directly with Fedex.

Maybe they have some kind of arrangement or something? But when they notify you about the tax, you can call the customer service people back regarding how to pay the tax if you're not sure.

EDIT: Did some Googling. Apparently GDex is their 3rd party service provider (maybe one of many). So if you live in an area where there are no Fedex branches nearby, they ask these companies to help deliver.

I order for CDJapan and with Fedex's help they i got the tax fee brakdown

Erk... like that ah?

Last March, I bought 2 music CDs (both albums) thru CDJapan, but shipped them using EMS.

No tax. So does that mean if EMS no tax imposed? Since EMS will be delivered by Pos Malaysia?

I am looking to buy this Samsung SE-506BB/TSBD 6X USB2.0 External Slim Blu-ray Writer Drive
Link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AO1XFM...d=ATVPDKIKX0DER

So checking through the tariff list, I find that the most probable HS code would be 8471.70 300 - optical disk drives, including CD-ROM drives, DVD drives and CD-R drives. And there is no sales tax listd under this tariff code.

So I just want to confirm whether I got this correct, and if I was mistaken, please point me to the correct HS code and tell me how much is the tax/duty for this item.

First time attempting to buy this. Appreciate any input anyone can give me. Thank you.

(oh, and if anyone know if I can get this locally? so far I haven't found a seller yet for this particular item)
