QUOTE(arturo @ Apr 23 2013, 03:52 PM)
Hope somebody can help me.

I'm sick of living in fear of being robbed again and since I now live 2hours away from my parents house, I bought a fingerprint door lock to make sure my house door is always locked without excuses "forgot key la" or "yr father/mother always forget key" ever happening again...

I bought this fingerprint door lock from a seller in Korea and had it shipped here. I work in a free trade zone area so i thought if i addressed the item to me at my factory, it wouldnt get blocked at customs but since my luck is super ugly, it got blocked at Johor pos laju customs and i received the poslaju notification to go and collect the item. I called the customs office there and tried explaining that the destination address is a free trade zone and the customs officer asked me if it was personal or for company use....i freaked and said it was personal. so i'm planning to go and collect it this thursday but the problem is...the item is considered a door lock and at customs site, this is supposed to be 25%/ 10% taxed...i bought this item at USD280! i'm not willing to pay close to RM550 just for taxes...and i've been told i need to go to Sirim to get clearance and all those damn bluetape...I'm no rich guy and had to save like crazy to buy this lock for my parent's sake

I thought of going there with an invoice at usd85 and asking for leniency as i only bought 1 and it is not for resale...

I'd appreciate any advise on getting this cleared with minimal hassle and taxes....
*
your problem is a bit complicated.. about the tax, agree or not, you still need to pay the tax and some items need to apply for SIRIM permit etc in order to release it. You can try to send an email to Royal Customs (ccc@customs.gov.my, morning is the best time to send an email to them to get quick reply) to get exact explaination/clarification.

ymtong...yah...when i called the customs office and was transferred to the customs officer, he did ask me how was the transfer made and i said bank transfer. i dont think there is a way to cheat the actual purchase price unless i make a deal with the supplier to transfer usd85 and then he return the transfer back to me which would just be a waste of banking fees.

laptab...anyway for me to check about sirim approvals? this items has electronics but runs off 4 AA batteries...

has anybody had experience with tax reduction methods?

you should wait..maybe customs will contact you.

Just a reminder; if you buy something from overseas, avoid from ask your seller/shipper to mark your items as 'Gift', as it will just make your items held by customs longer and longer ;-) . Be honest as Royal Customs hate if you mark your items as 'Gift'.

Can I know how a Nintendo 3DS tax charged ?
I think it is charged under code 950450000 so I need to pay total 20% of the tax ?
And did I need SIRIM approval for it ?
*
Yes, Nintendo 3DS is classified as game console and HS Code is 9504500000, total tax is 20%. I'm not sure whether you'll need to apply for SIRIM permit because as far as i know, one of the items that need SIRIM permit is Telecommunication-related apparatus, maybe you can contact/email to SIRIM QAS for clarification :-)

laptab, where do u refer to the codes and percentage charged? can i have the link to the doc? ive tried to search in kastam website but link was dead or something. thanking in advance.
*
i'm refer to DagangNet.com.my (registered user only) + Fedex Global Trade Manager (registered user only) + DutyCalculator.com (public accessable, but limited to 10 search/day). You may refer to www.dutycalculator.com because it's up-to-date and accurated. Royal Customs owned tariff.customs.gov.my looks outdated (because some HS Code are not available/listed).

Hi Laptap,

A few question regarding taxes.
I'm using the dutycal website as you suggested and get this result:

http://www.dutycalculator.com/new-import-d...ails/185123283/

1. Is that everything under RM500 would not be charged for tax/duty?
2. If the shipment is over RM500, and kastam wants to apply duty/tax, would my courier settle the bill first and charge me for the extra fees when they deliver?
3. Or the kastam will straight hold the item and I need to travel down to their office to get the shipment?
4. If a shipment to an address but the items are separated into 2 invoices, each RM400, would that make the exemption for the tax/duty?

Thank you.
*
1. Not all, better prepare for the tax if the items was taxable items.
2/3. Courier like Fedex will settle it for you and charge you when they deliver.
4. No

Hi Laptab,

Thanks for your quick reply.
What do you mean by prepare the tax?
How do we pay the tax even before the kastam tax us?
*
I mean, prepare the money to pay the tax. If you use premium courier like Fedex, they will pay the tax on your behalf and charge you later, when they deliver your items.

Just sent an email to Kastam to get exact amount of tax of the toy lightsaber that I want to buy was told it was 10% of sales tax. But then I was informed that I need to check with KPDNKK for Certificate of Conformance since it was a toy.

Anyone have problem buying toys from oversea and need to get this Certificate of Conformance?

I don't want to be spending more than Rm1200 and then my toy cannot be claim from custom due to problem with Certificate of Conformance.
*
Contact KPDNKK.. maybe you can apply for 'exemption letter' because your toys is for personal use and not for re-sale right?..

EMS? and if mine korean skincare products are under 4kg and costs USD200++, will they tahan my parcel too? but the problem is i can't go so far to KLIA for taking back my parcel if my parcel stuck at custom. i don't know can i use EMS or not seems that my supplier told me EMS fees are free for purchase more than USD200. cry.gif

Your items will be detained by customs I think, because now, skin care products is fall under cosmetics products, and that means you need permission from Pharmaceutical Services Ministry of Health Malaysia. More info can be obtained in the following website;
http://www.pharmacy.gov.my/v2/en/faq/do-we...e-malaysia.html .

Contact Pharmaceutical Services, Ministry of Health for clarification.

to be exact, currently, all items that fall under HS Codes of 8443, 8517, 8525, 8526, 8527 & 8529 need to apply SIRIM Import Permit (mandatory).
