SE really going slim series..
All about same spec with diff design only.. weird! The design department really have some hard work!  I love the description of non-af, a better word indeed: Fixed Focus Pedometer included? like Nike+Ipod? I like the name too, w580i, cute! haha.. went to SE UK website too see if it is officially there not.. and i found something.. snapshot attached! spot the prob!   |

Looks very nice, especially the grey one, furthermore it have 2" QVGA screen which is the same as W850i and its slightly weighty at 94g (which is good for me at least)
But the keypad is rather tightly packed and I don't like the Fast Port located on the side of the phone |

the more i look at the grey one.. the more
would be great as a designer phone.. i dont mind to ditch any more functional phone just for this classy cool greyish-brushed-metal + young unique blue, less functional but looks pretty.. the color combination is close toperfect by se this time. but have to look at real unit if it look as great as in pic though.. |

the keypad should be alright.. but the protruding bottom part, not on same level as the keypad, may make typing inconvenient, not comfortable. maybe not too.

wah nice design le!! looks at my w810... and compared... function of course w810 more, but for design this one rock haha!! the keypad shouldnt b a prob cuz k500c oso has the same keypad look... and i used k500 b4 this.... yea but sadly no AF n flash... summore using M2, quite expensive.... mayb 2-3 years down the road i might consider this... haha

SE's trying to make a difference in the Walkman phones and non walkman phones or even Cybershot phones.thats why they dont put in AF anymore after the W610i.hopefully in the future they'll throw it in as a bonus

it is worth the price, with touchscreen, newer tech, newer design, newer UI etc etc, i dont mind the price.
but if it comes out as what nowadays SE can offer but priced at introductory new price of rm1999 again, that is even expensive as you can get cheaper same spec and features phones at much lower price.. |

the light thru the front cover = is a first stage prototype P1, the light leaks thru the front cover. It will not happen in mass production.... the reason they cannot haf AF in this fone = the stackup.... the front flip is half of the size 14mm/2 = 7mm is not deep enuff to fit in an AF camera module + the camera window + front cover plastic... in terms of mechanical stackup, its nearly impossible to make it there will be 4 colors in total ... as of now.... soon, maybe. Try to guess the other 2 colors |

i still having doubt with w580 shake control features...
if the w580 use the same earfon port like s500i, then its totally useless.. coz mine s500 keep stop the playback when i'm listen to mp3. if the fon shake or the port is been touch jus a lil bit, the fon stop the playback n keep asking me if i want to play trough the speaker... it is so easy for the earfon port to disenggage...  hopefully this w580 is not like that... otherwise the shake control is useless... actually it doesnt disengage physically...
juz that the fon detect the port is disengage the it been touch or move or shake.. rilly piss me off when i listening to mp3 while i walking or when i put the fon in my pocket... |

as usual the non-walkman series came out earlier to gauge the the basic phone design
and the release of the w series will certainly boast some improvemeny SE is having less confidence than they used to, now being more of a shrewd business thinking in a way, i subconciously wish it would go down the way w550 road (used to be a user of w550 but give my big bro use, now using chokia 3310 )so there would not be alot of user, and maintain its exclusitivity but time will tell gotta catch 'em all gotta catch 'em all |

i'm happy with my s500i.. its a good fon.
juz a bit unhappy with the build quality especially the keypad. i've crack 4 button of my keypad olready.. and it not juz me, some other guys oso complaining the same thing.. there a alot of s500i user had crack the keypad.. and the other thing is about the mp3 playback.. i enjoy listening to my mp3 on the fon.. but the playback keep stop n asking me to play it trough the speaker..these happened when u accidentally touch the earphone port at the right site of the fon.. it did not unplugged physically, juz that the fon detect that the earphone is been disengage from the port when it been touch or shake.. it rilly piss me off coz i always listen to the music while i walking and put the fon is in my pocket.. other than that, it is a one fine mobile phone.. i do love it.. especially the cool theme.. owh... not to forget that this fon is rilly a fingerprint magnet. But cracked keypads omg have u tried to claim warranty on those keypads? I hear that certain S500i after certain production weeks wont have this defect anymore. Anyone can confirm this? Just lost my phone last few days now itching to get a new one |

I just received the silver and blue set... and played it a while yesterday..
Pros:- loves the side lights a lot.. Walkman function easy to use like usual. Picture quality cannot expect much but same as W850. Sound quality is expected, its a Walkman. I played with one too. The shaking functions rawks,so far based on gsmarena there arent any complain of the keypad cracking yet. Based on the s500,they say that the paint was the reason why the keypad crack,chemical reaction. Im kinda have my eyes on this hp too

Just like w610i lor, when it just released to the market, RM1200+ and after few weeks drop till RM900+. Now RM700+ (I mean AP set.) .S500 drop alot,i bought it at RM1050 and within 2 weeks,RM8XX . |

I've heard from howardforums or somewhere that the picture is actually of a prototype w580. And that is the only picture available around the internet that shows cracked keypad on the w580.

Prototypes doesn't get to the market. Hopefully they noticed the keypad problem while experimenting with the prototype w580 and fixed the keypad already.
There's also someone who's really desperate to let sony down by actually using photoshop to make the yellow S500 looks as if it has cracked keys. |

I'm using the green s500.Probably they didn't notice the problem since s500 was released much earlier than the w580. I just changed my s500 keypad few days ago. Seems to be fine now. But I get the feeling it'll crack sooner or later. I do hope Sony Ericsson will find a solution to this problem. Even if they have to create a new keypad for this phone. |

I'm getting this phone soon. But just want to ask the W580 users whether the sliding mechanism tend to you know ... Cause I used samsung slide phone last time. But the sliding mechanism sucks. Phobia I guess. Thanks in advance for the reply.

Its true that samsung has made more slider phone and has more experience in it.. but i see my fren d900, use long already the slide get really hard to push up and slide back down.. Like has a lot of friction when sliding up.

the advantage of AF is just to take better pictures coz the phone will auto focus for u.. but non-AF phones need to have the focus urself.. Just tat difference but it doesnt ruin the picture by a lot..
W580 is enough for normal picture taking and normal usage.. |

i played with w580i today, feels more solid than s500i. The buttons dont feel so plasticky like s500's. They're selling around 1.2K for ori (not sure if it's ori or AP though, didnt have time to check through it)

can someone teach me how to open the battery cover easily? my 580 refuses to budge it's battery cover. ><

AP set mine dun include la.. got also 128mb only.. Only ori set include 512mb card i think.. Not sure..

S500 keypad crack due to it's pain not because of the fragile keypad. So I think this phone won't face the problem.

there is NOT A SINGLE complains on the crack keypads, even with extensive messaging per day so i guess it worth a try~ |
