Personally, I feel the chopping down the monsters movements are a bit off. Probably will get a physical copy tonight if I'm free.

Not a game for casuals. The combat in MHW is really long, for just a single monster. It's not something like Horizon Zero Dawn where the big monsters takes little time to take down. If you compare MH and HZD, HZD is just dumb down combat compared to MH. Both are just not the same game and is aiming for a different audience.
MH still has a steep learning curve for those who never played the series before. World has a lot of tutorials and guides that it helps a lot of new players to get through the learning curve. Old MH games doesn't have that much tutorial to begin with. Once you get used the gameplay, learn about the basic stuff you need to know, and getting used to the manual camera, you'll be hooked and hunting all day. It takes more than a few hours to learn about the game in general, once you learn most of it I'm sure those who never played it will love it more. You also need to test all the weapons, see which is better for you. So far MHW is the first MH that is able to make casuals jump in the game without much issues compared to previous series without checking youtube and what not. While the learning curve is really steep it wasn't as steep as the old one's. So take your time to learn about the game, no need to rush, you'll appreciate it more once you know what you're getting into. |

QUOTE(starz92 @ Jan 30 2018, 12:12 PM) I didn't actually tried it myself as I watched my bro to play through several mission during beta. Graphic was amazing, just that feeling so heavy wielding all those super big size weapons haha well, this is my first monster hunter as well. some of the weapon does felt quite slow but everything have their pro and cons. if you like something that is fast, better go sword+shield or the dual blade. balance is very important so that every weapon is viable in the game. The mob look a bit similar with Horizon Zero Dawn. Getting my dissidia soon but can't make up my mind on this.. for me, i started with longsword.. and then i changed to bow, light bowgun and dual blade. now, i am back to longsword for solo play and heavy bowgun for party. so far so good. use whatever weapon that you enjoy the most. |

Let's say I do not want to take on any of the quests available, can I just go around killing other monsters? HZD is a joke when it comes down to difficulty as it is still very easy in "Ultra Hard" mode. Good thing to know that MHW is better in terms of difficulty.
Looking forward for this tonight. |

After first few quest, the expedition mode will be unlocked where you can go out and freely roam the zones. But you wont be able to progress further into the stories and unlocking new map.Looking forward for this tonight. |

You can just do expedition if you want, it has no time limit and monsters leave and go with some different one's coming out. But I suggest you to do story first as it unlocks new area, new monster, new items for hunting and easier way to earn material without hunting. Main mission isn't that much actually, optional mission is available that will keep you busy as well. To increase your HR level you need to clear the main mission, then more stuff will be available. You'll understand when you start playing.Looking forward for this tonight. There is no difficulty options on MH, it's just one single difficulty, so it's more challenging. What you face is also what the beginners and veterans are facing. Suggest taking your time to learn for a while to get into the game, if wanna just wack monsters only, you might not like it because you'll need to understand most of the mechanism first, then you can get into the game. Just make sure you read the tutorials and texts, and you'll be good. |

QUOTE(Joey Christensen @ Jan 30 2018, 12:38 PM) Personally, I feel the chopping down the monsters movements are a bit off. Probably will get a physical copy tonight if I'm free. Personally as a first timer like myself, i kinda dislike the beta demo too, due to how inconvenience the combat system was. However, after getting the game and spent sometime with it, i started to understand how everything suppose to works. One of my doubts is the sheathing and unsheathing mechanism in MHW or its series, are very tactical in some sense, where you need to learn when to retreat to do other stuff cause you basically can't do anything else if you are wielding your weapon (besides SnS). Once you get used to this, next thing is, the combat is a little more approach, wait, observe and strike, observe, sling/lay trap/etc, strike again style, rather than approach and hack and slash till the end. Once you mastered the above, you will start to enjoy it. Think of yourself as a hunter, and that is what a hunter do. MHW also got a lot more depth in the character customization, weapon selection and loadout. Every encounters are a boss fight (mostly). Seriously, the mission lists are massive, the grinding are often rewarding, not because you killed a monster based on what you wear, but how you approach it and what tactic you used against it (mainly). I also wish to mention on the wonderful soundtrack, it melt in you head. One thing stand up quite impressive is every single weapon (14 of them) played out very differently. Is like playing a different game altogether when you are utilizing a different weapons. I am still learning and taking my own sweet time to try to understand all the tiny bit of this and that, you always learn something new everyday. I havent even tried coop and i bet once i learn much, coop will be lot of fun. This post has been edited by jenniferjen: Jan 30 2018, 04:09 PM |

That is how I started MH as well back during MH3U, I played older one's but can't get into it until I really read, watch guides and learn how to play it properly. Just can't go around wacking like normal games, need more strategy and stuff.. glad you're liking it. Pretty sure you arw mostly hooked now lol.One of my doubts is the sheathing and unsheathing mechanism in MHW or its series, are very tactical in some sense, where you need to learn when to retreat to do other stuff cause you basically can't do anything else if you are wielding your weapon (besides SnS). It's a lot easier to farm materials when you coop. Less time, more rewards. While money might be little, you can still make a lot of money by selling materials you won't use. |
