Money talks. Sooner or later Microsoft will rate Symantec products to be the best Anti-virus, best utilities etc.

symantec sucks especially thier stupid protection center intented to replace windows protection center but nothing better all still the same.

there're some problem with mac but each time u do ur update, has anyone face problem?
all i know even on my original windows, after updating it gives me hell of problems

nothing is perfect but we go for near perfect. u dont have to even worry download emails on mac unless if u r using entorage

well yeah, i kinda agree with seeseng... each company has their own vested interest... in this case, symantec's range of products are mostly for windows... so when they publish the report with these results, demand for windows might increase... when people actually use windows and realize the harsh reality of how vulnerable it is to security threats, they'd have to purchase all these security software and surprise surprise: symantec's sales would most probably increase....

i'm not saying that the published results are fake or made up or sumthin.... what i'm saying is that they might have skewed the research in such a way that would lean towards windows... for instance, the criteria that they analyze and report may be what windows is better at...

as a consumer, what matters to me and what's most important is my experience when using the OS.... using mac os x is simply stress free, whereas using windows is super stressful with all the vulnerabilities n stuff... i feel more secure using mac os x, and i believe other fellow mac users would attest to this

Guess now is the right time for me to ditch Symantec AV on my Macbook .. it doesn't support native intel platform anyway .. Now, is there any better replacement around? Still need it to access the company's internal network.

Windows (Vista) is a boost on security measures, but whether someone enjoy it or not is another different story. Things popping up, reminders and warnings may be a peace of mind to some but also irritating to others.

Then Windows has had so much of security issues over the past that they have to be good by now, if not they would have been gone. And the fact that they carry the highest risk of being liable for damages due to majority corporations whom rely on it.

And the study is also biased in a way, cause it took results from the last 6 months of 2006, how many patches would there be right before the launch of a totally new OS(Vista)?

switches aren't always about security issues.

and strangely, people tend to have this stupid mentality that every user uses only 1 OS. it's as if OSes are religion.

for me, i use at least 3 OSes. Mac OS X is probably the best i've come by so far (yay FreeBSD!!)

As the end user, I know what works best for me. All this marketing ploy won't work for me... come on it's 2007 now, not 1997.

Windows being the best is overated. I am not a Mac fanboy but the risk of running windows is so great you don't dare go naked.

More accurate to say, Symantec profits greatly from the Windows insecurities.

I think Mac is more secure compare to Windows...I've never kena virus and never being hacked before while using Mac but in PC, I'm always worry of being hacked or being attacked by millions of virus, trojan & spyware...

just look at LYN's various sub-forums. you'll see stuff like "HELP..POP UP..." to "here's my Hijackthis log" and so on so forth.

it's not just symantec. everyone's getting a piece of something out of Windows security.

just look at the ocean of personal firewall, anti-spyware / adware / malware balbalblabla available for Windows.

just ask any casual user on LYN what do they have installed on their Windows machine. there's countless 3rd party apps to handle Windows' insecurity.

Thats mainly because 98% of the world's computer are Windows based. Everyone wants a piece of the pie because anyone who get the initiative to do that will be an instant millionaire.

Anyway, for any virus maker to create virus for an Mac Os X is equivalent to finding a pin in the haystack. In other words, the virus makers would give up before it achieves any results. I don't know why up till now, people still can't grasp this simple principle.

Its the user base that attracts virus makers and those "legal" ones who tested it against Mac Os X are in no way comparable. Its called marketing gimmick.

for your information , ppl whom created OS other than Windows is not only for money, money and money ,dude

they do it for mankind and it have continuous on-going research and development , they want something more kick than windows .

People have choice to switch to Mac, Linux, UnIX or or any closed-source OS (i think the only closed-source OS in this world = Windows)

Security are already embedded in all OS , but user/sysadmin should play their role to secure it ...

regarding what u said as "marketing gimmick" , IMHO , Apple already have their own strategic plan to make their product as casual ...not being nerdie or daddy-o ...

I respect what MS do with their own market advertisement , and so do Apple .

But what to do..i'm already switched
