QUOTE(LordDenning @ May 27 2017, 12:24 AM) its random I believe, have unboxed sets with 0, -2, and -4. Never come across any -6 (maximum) though.. That is pre-update values. After software update the values changed to 0, -3, -6 and -9 (maximum) Ah icic. Regarding the 'refurbished' units, how to differentiate whether its new or not?

But you can try to use this app to check the status. It will tell you if your unit is refurbished. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...guyen.phoneinfo

Regarding the 'refurbished' units, how to differentiate whether its new or not? that one i have no idea, i dont think you can differentiate unless you are the technician working in Samsung SC. Doubt front desk staffs even know as well as they just pick a box from storage.. Just check your new phone after done exchange.

QUOTE(LordDenning @ May 27 2017, 12:49 AM) wonder if that app would still be useful if its Samsung themselves configuring it? I would think Samsung have the tools to reset everything right hmm Well, if that's the case, then God bless those who opt for 1 to 1 exchange from Service Centre. Although we don't have the exact figure of how much of rejected units out there, for sure Samsung won't just dump those units into nowehere. I remember I did mention this doubt in thread v2 or v3. For those red tint units, probably they would just fix it by software and then put them back into the box. The outlook sure will look like brand new. That's why I said there's no way to differentiate. heck, even those who bought from Samsung store right now could be also receiving the rejected units. Who knows right? So my suggestion to those owners who plan to go for 1 to 1 exhange, all you need to do is check the phone carefully. The screen, the body. Make sure there's no defects before you leave. As for refurbished or not, you won't be able to tell and you probably will never know the truth. So don't be bother to worry about it, because it's all up to Samsung and that's not something you can control. Just make sure the one you received is in good condition. That's the only thing you should care about. This post has been edited by Max2006: May 27 2017, 01:03 AM

As long as the physical condition of the phone is good, then dont have to think too much whether the phone is virgin or not.. Better than Samsung not even bothering to offer 1 to 1 exchange and to just ask owners to fix it via software tweaks..

N status. Just check for the up time. If the counter really start from zero. Or while turn on a few second pass. Then its new.

i use iris and fingerprint and sometime the fingerprint not giving respond and then need to use iris or type password to unlock. after unlock and lock again, fingerprint ok back....
the occurrence are random... not sure why...
need to bring my phone to center as the screen not nice(almost half side different contrast-like dim little bit) and this random unresponsive fingerprint scanner...off course after icon x promo finish...) hope can get 1-1 exchange due to hard to repair or some good reasons for them to giving 1-1....

QUOTE(SirNewbee @ May 26 2017, 11:19 PM) anyone getting random vibration after hard pressing home button to unlock the phone? doesnt happen all the time, but sometimes after u hard press home button and unlock the phone, then you tap anywhere on screen once it will vibrate like you pressing home button.. Note: all vibrations I set to off, so its just the hard press home button vibration that could not be turned off. quite a lot of people are experiencing the same problem, myself included. hopefully it's a software bug. https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/...oblem-t3600575/

QUOTE(SirNewbee @ May 26 2017, 11:34 PM) I have insider info that most of the S8 or S8+ the SC have are "refurbished" units. They will check the phone for any problems, then do some software fixes, if still not solved then only they change the problematic hardware component. Once changed hardware, they will do the necessary checks like water test, etc.. If all pass as well, then they will repackage the phone. Im guessing this means putting on new stickers for front screen and back glass of the phone and also sealing back the box with new tamper-proof stickers. But this "refurbish" is not as bad like iPhone refurbish unit you get because most or basically all the S8/S8+ sets are still very brand new, and the volume of people coming in to exchange is quite a lot. So no way to truly 100% tell if your phone is "refurbished" or brand new from factory as the tamper seals on the box and plastic films on the phones can be replaced.. Just think for a moment, how and why you think different phones when unboxed have different values set in them in the *#15987# function then? well we cannot runway for refurbished units because change in SC... only thing like u said, it's still kinda new... so won't have much difference... still feels new sets
