1st what size of thank you want? nano 1feet, 2feet, 3 feet, 4 feet?

then will choose the filtration system? hang on back (for nano), canister for bigger tank size

lighting that depend on what type of plant you want to plant in your tank and the size of your tank...Fluorescent lighting(PLL, T5, PL), halogen, Metal Halide Lighting...need to consider the Wattage, Lumens and Kelvin Rating

    * Low lighting-Cryptocorynes, Java Fern, Java Moss
    * Medium lighting-Sagittaria, Echinodorus
    * High lighting-Cabomba, Salvinia, Lemma

CO2 system...if have the cash get a pressurized CO2 with electric regulator (RM300-400) or cheaper method is DIY CO2...but cant handle high demand plant

Substrate...ADA product+ADA 5 beauties or Holland sand (cheaper way)

Fertilizer...root fert and liquid fert for the leaf

Temperature...no money can DIY cooling fan with PC casing fan+adapter or buy a chiller...plant stay healthy at range 25 degree to 28 degree...or get a air con for it like some sifu does hehehe...

scraping materiel...driftwood (mangrove root/jati wood), stone (lava stone and all sort of it...)

scraping style...Dutch style, Nature Aquarium (or Japanese) style, Iwagumi-style or own style...

fauna...fish? shrimp? snail?

flora...foreground/mid ground/back ground

monthly maintenance sure got abit work lo... such as fertilizing, water change, pickup dead plants/fish... normal co2 tank can last u for about a year before refilling needed, depending on bps rate... usually small tank needs less bps...

since u have rm500 budget, mayb u can invest more in proper substrate setup.... a nice tank with nice lighting housing do look appealing, though will cost abit more... as for water filter, a HOB will be sufficient for small 1ft nano tank... using a canister filter will cause too strong water current in ur tank...

normally when setting up a planted tank, first time setup will cost abit more den usual... monthly maintenance will cost much cheaper... especially when u're having small tanks....

Did someone said Help From Penang? LOL!!!

Rm 500 can do for a 1feet nano. Follow pinchyboys regiment of rm 150 for the tank kit. Then the c02 tank would eb your most worthwhile investment..

Cheau THean Yang to be exact is Newbie heaven IMHO. They have eveything, but not the best of things. They all work, not saying you cannot achieve with those stuff, But I'd rather spend my money elsewhere. Another one would be KW88, they do bring in ADA goods, but the experience of most employees there to planted tanks aren't very good..

You can try, Fishop-Prangin Mall, Sg. Nibong Quah Swee Yam LFS, Farlim Jit Seng.. these to me are more planted tank oriented

DOn't ask me mainland aquatics, I'm a true islander all the way.

It's a full custom DIY light for tanks between 1feet and 1.5feeters. It hold 36watts(18watts x 2) of PL-L Philips.

the body is made of aluminium for great heat dispersion and etc etc etc. the rod has been tested to withstand 10Kgs +/- So that light which weighs 0.8kg is allright. (It has a E-ballast from plhillips hidden inside..)

Price is Rm 6xx. Be prepared to spend to get this fancy little gizmo. (prices on sized differ of course.)

That my friend, is inaccurate, if it is truly yellow, then you're overdosing c02, try aerating your tank at night.

You still need to aerate your tank at night.

Plants absorb Oxygen at night. yes your fish does not seem affected. Try your bacteria. Aerating at night benefits a lot of things, plants grow healthier, water quality better, fishes are healthier, And pH can be maintained.
