Getting Started

Shortly after installing the Grab app (rider not driver), my account got banned for "gaming the system" after contacting support. Just to be clear, I did not do anything illegal/gaming/whatever. It happened before I used their service even once. There are no issues with the Uber app.
My guess it that the Android google account name on my phone does not match my real name and it raised a red flag but I have never faced a problem with other free or paid apps because of that before.
Has anyone faced the same issue before?

Previous owner of the number gaming the system and got the number banned? I faced this problem more than a month ago, and when I contacted support by email then, I only got a 1 or 2 line response and never responded again to my replies. I called support again by telephone yesterday. No response yet. I don't know if my number was blacklisted previously but the first response I got by Grab support was bad since they never gave reason why my account was banned, just said I gamed their system. It looks like Grab is quite liberal with banning its users/drivers and does not have a proper appeals process. And it looks like they outsource their customer support to a poor company. http://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/...spend-accounts/https://www.reddit.com/r/singapore/comments...aying_ive_been/https://www.allsingaporestuff.com/article/o...financial-limbo

But for taxi drivers, Grab looks like a risky company to do business with if my interactions with their support is anything to go by. They haven't replied to my call yet and or sent me any message saying that they are still working on it.

Not sure how they track. Probably by phone Imei number. Sometimes i do phone reset and it works. But do take care if you login /logout multiple accounts on the same phone without doing system reset. That gets you banned.
For rider account that got banned, don't bother appealing. They don't give a shit about you. Go buy the umobile Rm3 simcard at giant/tesco and save all the trouble.
