Anyway, short review of my Katana after riding it for nearly 2 months already and 1800km.

In short, the bike is like Jekyll and Hyde, ridden normally it is very nice to ride around, with a very upright riding position and nice grunty torque low down, no problem short shifting lugging the engine in 3000rpm. Cruising at highway speeds 110-130kmh in 6th gear the engine is also very smooth so as a daily bike it is pretty much perfect other than the tiny 12L fuel tank.

Giving it full throttle in first though, the bike still scares the hell out of me. Past 6000rpm the vibration changes dramatically on all touch points of the bike and you feel the bike pulling like a jet. Try my best to lean as far forward as I can and the front wheel still wants to come up for a power wheelie even with the Traction Control set to the most intrusive, If I just assume a standard riding position the front end would definitely come up. Revving the first gear to redline you'll already be going above the highway speed limit ar around 130+kmh, topping out at 2nd gear you're already 173kmh so everytime I do a pull, I just do 1st and 2nd because I know if I enter 3rd, I'll be reaching 200+ real quick. The exhaust is also the loudest stock exhaust I've heard on a bike, definitely can be heard from some distance away while not being anoyingly loud. Very contented with the stock exhaust so I'll just be leaving it stock.

Engine feels awesome as mentioned but I think the thing that really stands out is the gearbox. After testing Triumph, KTMs, Honda, the Suzuki gearbox is truly one of the best. Neutral is easy to find in standstill or moving and until today I had not encountered false neutral unlike during my KTM test ride, I got into false neutral on the Duke 790, and the Adventure 390 I tested was impossible to enter Neutral from a standstill. No questions the Suzuki engine and gearbox being an almost 20 year old design, they had proven and refined it to the point of perfection and not surprised to ride the bike to 6 digit mileage hopefully.

Headlamps are just average I guess, very good for a bike IMO but the bike came with the headlamp adjusted way down only illuminating 5 meters from me. I had to adjust it myself for the headlamp to be actually useful but once it's adjusted it does a decent job, though nowhere near as bright as modern cars.

Can't speak much about the handling as I had not ridden the bike hard much due to lack of time available to go on proper rides, I only use it for my work commute mostly and to tapao food/buy groceries. But the few times I did bring it into a corner, it feels pretty planted but definitely needs some getting used to coming from a bike with 130 rear section tires vs this bike's 190 section rear, takes much more effort to get the bike to lean down but slowly getting used to it now. Cilok-ing between traffic is pretty easy as long as it don't involve any really sharp/tight turns as the turning radius of the bike is pretty horrible. Caught me off guard a few times when doing slow u-turns and luckily in all 3 cases I managed to stomp my feet on the ground and pull the bike back upright before any contact to the ground.

Front suspensions are fully adjustable while rear does not have compression adjustability but have preload and rebound. I tuned the front suspension slightly softer with compression damping, then added more rebound damping to smoothen the bumps absorption. Tuned the front to match the rear in compression but wish I can soften the rear as well so I can make both softer as the stock compression damping is quite 'sporty' so I can't really soften the front too much. Also increased the rear rebound damping and so far with my adjustments the bike feels really balanced and won't get upset when encountering road irregularities during corners vs the factory default settings.

The dashboard IMO is just perfect for me. All reviewers complain about the dash being messy but it is just giving you all the important information you need at a glance and you'll get used to it pretty quickly. Switchgears also feels good but only complaint is the horn button is really easy to accidentally press when reaching for the signal. Did it a couple of times and even once when approaching the roadblock, paiseh police look at me one kind which idiot horn at a roadblock.

The bike doesn't have much electronics and as mentioned before only has TC and ABS. TC I always left it in 3 and tested the ABS a few times and it works very well even in the wet. Speaking of wet I was quite surprised how much grip the stock tires had in the wet. Didn't test cornering but tried emergency braking and at lower speeds the grip is enough that the rear tire lifts off the ground. Throttle is by good old cable but that also means I don't get ride modes or cruise control, but what I do get is a very direct and consistent feel in the throttle. Once you get used to it, it's like an extension to your body.

I serviced my bike at Suzuki HQ in Glenmarie and they really try to rip you off by telling you the normal service interval is every 3 months(or 6000km) but in the user's manual it mentions every 1 year(or 6000km). Pretty damn ridiculous if the service interval is every 3 months, you'd be doing a VC every year even if your mileage is only 5000km. Total waste of money and not to mention bad for the environment too with all the wasted perfectly good engine oil. Bought a full soft copy of the Service Manual so after the warranty period in case anything comes up, I should be able to service or fix it myself.

Average fuel consumption on my work commute with daily traffic jams is around 17+ km/l and around 150-180km on a tank of fuel, average refuel is 9.5-10.5L.

Overall no regrets with the bike especially for the price I paid for it and makes my ride commute much more fun. Inline 4 ftw!
