If you're looking for a good distortion pedal to play metal stuff, you should try out Moen MO-VM from the guitar store. i bought it and its great

my friend wants to get a multi-fx pedal, his budget is RM1.4k - rm2k.

he says "any pedal cheaper pedal less than that is **** and worthless"
tho i don't really agree with that, i'm just helping him out here.

blackangel: with a few tweaks i'm sure you can get the sound you want. i'm still experimenting different sounds

asura: yeap. i'm just helping. if i were to get a multi fx i'll probably get a g2.1u first. won't spend so much on a first multi fx..

so.. what can you get for RM1.5k? laugh.gif

it really depends on what ur fren wants ler...say..if ur fren likes to play satriani or petrucci stuffs..go for boss gt8, line 6 is good for recording n amp mod..anyway is that ur fren 1st multifx?if yes..i suggest u to advise him to get an easier pedal because from the look only of the pedal..it definitely makes u scracth ur head ..floor POD is not bad.

n why i always forgot about zoom..lol zoom is not bad though but the wah..i think u need a new patch.anway good luck with his purchase

If you're a more live player, I'd hunt down a Vox Tonelab SE.......
If you're more of a recording kind of guy, I'd go for a POD XT Live.

MT2 user here. i'm a metallica fan myself. MT2 does that pretty well. and of course it can get mellower. i've tried it with deep purple, santana, satriani, bon jovi, GnR, it fits most of it with proper tweaking. the gain nob has a wide range and the mid freq can tweak the sound further. trust me, metalzone has a wide range for a compact pedal. try it with Jojet's 'i hate myself for loving u' & ' i love rock & roll', sounds great thumbup.gif. keep in mind though, it is called a metalzone, not an all-type-of-music-zone biggrin.gif. but if you're playing metallica, MT2 is a lot better for it than SD1. tends to get noisy at high gain & unsuitable for solo, i put the gain at about 2 o'clock most of the time which is just about right for me.

don't think, the swap will be worthed. i never regret ever buying it and as a metallica fan, i'm sure you won't regret too. just make sure you have a good pickup to suppress the noise. bad pickup will make the noise too apparent and you're gonna need a noise gate.

never tried it, but any noise gate will probably do. don't use too much gain and you'll be fine.

DS-1 is not useless...its great for classic rock kinda stuff...but MT-2 is definately one of the most aggressive pedal out there...with correct setting...you can be Ac Dc or Rolling Stone too~ a wide range of sound selection cool2.gif

he was referring to sd-1, the super overdrive. it's more mellow and warm, like tube i think. ds-1 is definitely not useless. i believe even satriani uses ds-1.

i agree. . . i rather you get a normal RG then the JEM Jr. . . mod the stock RG and load it with DiMarzio Breed/Evo pups and you're a step closer to Vai( a bloody far step but still a step)

I've tried most of the JEM from the universe 7 to the low models. . . have a mate who owns a JEM, and i found that the tone is really lacking due to the big cut in the wood for the damn monkey bar. . . if you dont have good pedals and amps to back the gutiar it soudns really thin, on top of that sustain is not easy, as evident in most of Vai's guitars, they are all loaded with Fernandes Sustainers. . . the JEM Jr goes out of tune if you plan to abuse the floyd like Vai does. . . Even the original Vai(white with gold hardware) sounds far from Vai's FLO guitar. . .

get a normal RG and mod it, get sustainers for neck breed/evo pups, scallop the last 8 frets, and get pedals if you really want Vai's tone. . .
