i don't think anyone answered this, but is there a different approach to palm muting and strumming when playing standing up? when the guitar is angled a bit(kinda like classical position)
*
well, practice picking in an angled position. you can see how slash do it. just a little practice. that's all.

Eh, Say what you like lah.... Hammett is still a metal god.... even though he doesn't show it much these days.
But his solos in the 80s are a definate inspiration on most players..... I mean common.....
*
+1 to that... I used to be a die-hard Hammett fan last time and I thought he was like the most awesome, fastest, most technical and yet melodic lead guitarist around. That was, of course, before I began listening to Eurometal where every other guitarist was a budding virtuoso... biggrin.gif

I'm not gonna start a feel vs technique debate (coz I think they're both sides of the same coin), but I have to say that after recently re-listening to 80s Metallica songs (Master, Creeping Death, Fade To Black, One), I feel that even at his peak in the 80s, his playing was mediocre compared to other 80s guitarists like Akira Takasaki, Marty Friedman etc (let's not even mention Vai/Gilbert/Malmsteen!). Ok, maybe that was putting the bar too high... tongue.gif

and I'm not sure if "he doesn't show it much these days" because his approach to playing guitar has changed, or if he's realized that there's not much to show in the first place! heck, if your band members cut out your solos from the album... hmmm.... hmm.gif

I have to say though that I was inspired to learn lead-playing because of Hammett. On hindsight, that was probably a bad choice because my conception of lead guitar was pretty much defined by what Hammett could play, which wasn't much beyond bend-bend-bend-pull-off-hammer-on-pull-off-<insert descending triplet run @ 100 bpm>... laugh.gif

He had probably one or two shining moments, but I think in Metallica, the true metal "god" was Hetfield (and maybe Trujillo(sp?) and Burton as demi-gods)... Ulrich, Hammett, Newsted were just along for the ride... icon_rolleyes.gif

i'm jsut disappointed at Metallica for renouncing themselves as a Metal outfit. . . that was the turning point. . . i mean. . . how can you all of a sudden go "don't call us Metal" =.= thats so sad. . . St.Anger was a super disappointment. . . bought the album and only listened to it twice. . .

and their new up and coming album seems to be very indian influenced. . . which im having mixed feelings. . .

i guess they just made alot of mistakes along the way. . . their choice of direction for the band. . .

i thought they said more middle-eastern vibe.... not necessarily indian sound.

Added on April 23, 2007, 6:02 pmHammett did inspired me a lot to pick up a guitar during my early metal-listening days. His tone is melodic, and he's in the world's most greatest metal band.

I bet no one would really look up to him if he were still in Exodus.

Sigh.... I just wish that Megadeth and Metallica FINALLY kiss and make up.....
Can you imagine how AWESOME it would be if they teamed up for a tour? Not talking about the tour they did back together in the 90s, but a renewed new millennium metal.....
Metallideth..... Megatallica.....

In the words of Cartman, Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

marty is enjoying is japanese lifestyle.... he wont be back to US so soon

it's not impossible for marty playing with mustaine once more... it's ellefson which had bad blood for mustaine (tried to sue mustaine but unsuccessful)

another possible legendary reunion might be carcass (but could probably without ken owen since he had brain tumor... ironic)

Meh. As long as the original JLo (That's James LoMenzo) is on Bass duties.... I'm quite happy with Megadeth for the moment.

FYI.... JLo WAS the bassist for BLS..... before John DiServo stepped in.
BLS goes through Bassists like Spinal Tap goes through drummers.
Lets see.... JLo, JohnD, Robert Trujilo, Mike Inez, heck.... they even got SOB.... Son Of Barry.... that's Barry GIBB. Yup. Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees.

Beat the System FTW!!!!
<insert brutal galloping riff played with gobs of ZOOM gain with Hindi/Tamil grawls>

Speaking of Dave Mustaine, did any of you see the YouTube video of Dream Theater covering Cemetary Gates? When Mustaine jumps in during the solo?

ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Gets ready to be flamed/bashed by Hordes of Mustaine fans).

And oh yeah btw Sweet tooth, I thought I heard from somebody that Chris Amott had rejoined Arch Enemy. Not sure how far it is true though.
