its better to play at a comfortable position even tho it may be high.
then play low and play like shit ending up looking like a bigger fool.

i dont see anyone complaining about ppl like petrucci, vai, hammett etc playing higher up.

and ermm anyone know where  to get thick and wide leather straps? customizable would be nice xD
*
dont know abt customisable... but i got mine from here: http://www.guitarstrapking.com/padded_guitarstraps.html
the black padded one. been using it for some time already. its really wide at 3.5 inch... but very comfy for me. might look wierd on me though, coz i'm small sized.

If you have a long pair of arms, you can always do a Jimmy Page. biggrin.gif
http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q23/met...1/JimmyPage.jpg

My guitar is usually hung slightly above echo's. biggrin.gif I move about quite a lot on stage so I prefer not to sling it too high as it limits the movement of the guitar. biggrin.gif

I used to sling it waaaaayyyy low, though... before I realize I wasn't Page. laugh.gif

Another solution, pratice playing standing up all the time.

usually after learning any song i will only practice the song playing standing
oo shi-
NO WONDER IM SHORT  vmad.gif  mad.gif

that's what i usually did too. always practice my electric guitar standing up. always. good workout i'd say biggrin.gif. heck, i can play master of puppets/battery while standing, but will have trouble when sitting down (i can only downstroke faster when standing). sweat.gif

QUOTE(AlienProbe)
just watch how low james hetfield's guitar is while he's standing and you will know everything is possible~

but hetfield is a tall guy. he has long arms. that's why he can play that low. i agree that it's better that we play at our comfortable height than following people's height. i tend to play quite low too, like hetfield(easier to downstroke). but i realized that it made me look stupid because i'm not as tall as he is. so now i play a little higher, like hammet's height. need time to get use to it, but it actually allow easier access to higher fret.

Eh, Say what you like lah.... Hammett is still a metal god.... even though he doesn't show it much these days.
But his solos in the 80s are a definate inspiration on most players..... I mean common.....

at my height i can play, but not with my pinky at those positions..

man..page.. his hands are LONG. mine aren't that long so i can't play it that low..

i don't think anyone answered this, but is there a different approach to palm muting and strumming when playing standing up? when the guitar is angled a bit(kinda like classical position)
