^Technically speaking; all the wireless base needs to do is to be able to decode an incoming Dolby stream (in which case you set the PS4 to bitstream its audio out through optical) and the wireless base will do the rest in simulating a Dolby Headphone signal to your headset.

Back in the PS3 and early PS4 days, I used a TurtleBeach DSS to do the same thing - except my headphones (Fidelio X1, Fostex TH900) was wired.

Basically anywhere that necessitates info syncing to the PSN server. This means syncing trophy info, changing account info, or linking to a 3rd party software (netflix, youtube, etc.).

finally update 5.01

5.00 got so many bugs

5.01 just patched up the fail over flow loophole to allow pirated/homebrew content on the PS4 that was running on FW5.0.

Nothing else changed.

I'm willing to bet full price for that external "PS4" seagate HDD to just be a standard 5400rpm HDD.

For me, I'm basically running a 512GB SSD on the PS4 Pro + 3TB external HDD. Only frequently played games I'll put on the SSD, everything else move to the external drive.

You can basically just get the cheapest second hand 512GB SSD you can find, doesn't matter what NAND it uses either because the PS4/PS4 Pro has no way to leverage the full speed of the slowest SSD on the market.

Most probably is ... else they would've advertised and emphasized the 7200rpm speed.

512GB SSD internally plus a bigger standard external hdd ... I guess that's the best compromise for better performance vs size ...
the only thing keeping me back from following what you've done, is the thought of 2TB 2.5" SSHD for around RM600 vs the cheapest new 512GB SSD for around RM700.

I think I'll do that for next gen console, or if I get a PS4 Pro, heheh.
*
I got a Transcend 370s 512gb second hand for RM550 late last year. It's really not that difficult to find one.

Yes the next best thing is the 2TB firecuda. But understand that if you switch between more than 1 game, its performance really isn't that much faster than a 7200RPM 1TB drive. The 8GB NAND in it is simply too small.

Wokay, will keep that in mind.

8GB NAND in Seagate Firecuda, ya, knew about that limitation ... if buy also, will only expect better performance when frequently loading save games after "YOU'VE DIED" (looking at Bloodborne)  laugh.gif

I do have the older SSHD frome seagate, not firecuda SKU and doesn't use the SMR technology in my OG PS4. Did indeed helped alot in Bloodborne's notoriously long load times.

Okay, so PS4 Pro Revision CUH-71xx series is out now.

------------------------

My observations:

1) The mainboard is tidier in the newer revision, less unnecessary electric traces. There are some components removed simply due to cost cutting.

2) Sony has went back to the old 2-way backplate found on the OG PS4. A 2 way backplate is generally a technical design flaw, it simply doesn't have the same amount of contact pressure as a 4-way backplate as found on the launch Pro and in fact, used in many higher end cooling systems on various other products. It does however seem that Sony has added a 'shimmy' on the middle of the plate however - something which I did personally DIY into my OG PS4's backplate.

3) The back retention plate is now a single piece of metal instead of a carved off area. In theory, this does improve heat transfer from the memory modules as there is a larger surface area. It does remain to be seen if this can improve thermals and thus lower fan noise.

Currently, the only confirmed SKUs for the revised PS4 Pro are from the standalone white PS4 Pro (this is NOT the same from the Destiny 2 white PS4 Pro bundle) and the latest black standalone set just sold in Japan a few weeks ago.

No. Save your money and get a good 4k TV first.

The Seagate is slightly faster on paper. But you're unlikely to notice. Get whichever, doesn't really matter.

why lol. any good tv between 1.8-2.5k range?
*
Because its got a mediocre IPS panel, which means poor blacks. The TV doesn't even get brighter than 400 nits, which is hilarious to call it a HDR TV. rolleyes.gif
It also doesn't have WCG capability as it's only using an 8-bit panel, also the motion clarity of this TV is subpar.

The only thing the TV does well is input lag, which usually comes in below 20ms.

To answer your second question, no - a good TV does not exist between 1.8k-2.5k range.

to truly enjoy HDR gaming, need at least a 55" 4K HDR10 tv am i right?
*
Depends on your subjectivity of "enjoying" HDR. I personally feel that any TV that doesn't hit an average of 1000 nits (not peak) doesn't do HDR enough justice. That said my main display is an LG C7 where it tops out at around ~800 nits, not really good enough for my taste but I'd take that shortcoming for infinite blacks any day.

But then there are people who thinks and feel that any 300 nits TV is good enough for their HDR standard. So it really depends on what you are looking for.

Size wise, the bigger the better IMO. I really wish 100" OLED TVs would come out already.

If you currently using a 4K tv, you shall go for PS4 Pro. Unless you have extra budget to purchase a 4K TV and PS4 Pro together, if not i only can advise you to go for slim version. PS4 Pro is meaningless if u using non-4k TV

One could equally say that if you have a 4k TV and you don't buy a RM7k PC rig, you're not doing 4k60p justice. Come on man. doh.gif

Come on. A PS4 Pro in a 1080p tv. You must be joking and under utilised a PS4 pro. PS4 pro is design to compatible with 2080p resolution.  Don’t waste a PS4 Pro
*
Aside from a handful of games, majority of games look subpar on a 4k TV - they don't bother to utilize anything other than a meager bump in resolution to 1440p.
With your logic, a PS4 pro isn't even worth it for a 4k TV anyways. So why even consider the console?

People recommend a Pro because it's really only like 300-400 bucks more than a standard PS4. Why shortchange your self?

I am not sure which games that u refer to are utter ass on a 4K TV. But most of my gamer friends/ clan mates are currently using PS4 Pro on a 4k TV are satisfied with the 4k HDR output. I seldom (or never) heard that PS4 Pro on a 1080p TV which absolutely under utilised a good console.... Imagine a lamborghini who a driver only can drive at 60kmps....utterly joke
*
Ok, first - stop using the overused, pointless car analogy. It's 2018, learn to get on with the times.

Next, since you and your "gamer" friends really feel that 1440p upscaled to 4k without any temporal injection or even checkerboarding is satisfactory - you really aren't much different to what you've been saying in the first place which is: PS4 Pro is only worth it on a 4k TV and is a joke a 1080p TV.

Hate to break it to you but; PS4 Pro is a joke of a 4k console in its entirety, in the first place.

You're dissing 1080p users yet you don't realize that even on a 4k display, the Pro is still a joke.

Before you spin my words and say something like "oh but look at Horizon!!!! Look at the upcoming God of War!!! Tell me if they aren't impressive at 4k!?!". Yes they are, considering the measly amount of power they have on tap - the first party devs has done some insane wizardry job. But is the PS4 (or the Pro specifically) only made to play those games? First party offerings are minority pickings. The majority of other games simply don't look and in often cases, perform very good.

The price cut for PSVR is worldwide. Will of course take some time to be effective in all regions.

Wohoo got my LG C7 dy. Been trying with all these Dolby Vision and HDR content, so I totally forgot to browse here. I'm more hyped about this HDR, true black, and Dolby Vision than 4K res though.
And also trying all sort of picture settings i can find on rtings, avforums etc. Any picture settings recommended to try on?

My AVR is Denon X2000 which was like for 4years ago tech? I'm sure I need upgrade for like hdcp 2.2, hdr passthrough which i'll never get if I connect my ps4 through AVR. For now i'm ok with PS4 connect directly to my TV and optical from TV to AVR. Tried the hdmi ARC, but somehow for PS4 input it messes up, while apps from tv is ok.

Sorry been outdated with this stuff for a while, got some catch up to do.  sweat.gif
*
Picture settings? I don't ever use picture settings from websites because of panel variances and room lighting differences. What works on one panel doesn't necessarily work on another.
I guess if you're happy with what rtings use, you can stick with it. I prefer to self calibrate.

Depending on what you are looking for, about every AVR last year supports HDMI 2.0 so as long as you buy something recent - you're good to go.

I never use ARC, it's retarded. Here's hoping eARC will be better.
