Which degree from UTP? I noticed most of them can speak really well and give good impression during interview. But, when it comes to actually walking the talk, it's a different story... Not all of course, but seems you got bad luck in hiring 5 bad apples there... :-)
All of them in Chem Engrg.
Hired 6 (at different times), 5 of them absconded without completing their engrg internships. One of the abscondees is a handphone addict. She spent 90% of her time tapping away at her phone, even when at site. Had she not run away I would have sacked her for dereliction if duty.
However one did very well and went on to bag a one and only technical job in Petronas.
Perhaps these students came from privileged backgrounds and thus are unaccustomed to working under tough real life conditions.
I hired one student from UITM. His English was rather good despite hailing from Kelantan. However he made a lot of mistakes (who doesn't?) that resulted in money lost but what brought him down was that he blamed his mistakes on me. He developed extreme prejudice and poor attitude and ran away.
The other UITM young man was better. Speaks very good English. In fact he's more comfortable in English than in Malay. He finished his internship (I'd rate him a B in performance) but as a JPA scholar have to return to govt service.
I was invited and recently gave a lecture in UITM and I believe UITM has many talents but like any other universities graduates have to grow up and learn to take up responsibilities and not run away at the slightest obstacle.
