Dear all /k.

In term of TICKET PRICE, TGV or MBO or GSC ?

In term of the Cinema Design, TGV or MBO or GSC?

In term of movies? Seats?

Bcoz ayam noob before this always thought GSC as the king of cinemas.

Not until 2 days ago ayam went to MBO CITTA Mall. Damn the interior design is superb with colourful and lego themed. Seriously incredible.
But sadly the seat is actually too close between the front and back ayam seat back also see people head in the front. sad sad.

So kum share opinion /k

TGV is most expensive. GSC has the best online system. MBO good for walk-in because there'll always be seats. LOL.

TGV is expensive from ticket price to concession. 6 pieces of mini sausages and a regular drink cost RM14? WTF to that.

Pricing:
TGV most expensive.

Cinema quality and seat
TGV the best (that is why most expensive).
If you in for action / scifi movies, TGV Imax 2D would be the one to go.
If you bring gf/bf, TGV beanie would be your best choice.
TGV more cinema types and option, that suit specific need.

Value for money:
GSC (the price can be 30-40% cheaper than TGV sometime, depend on mall)

Easy to get ticket:
If you in the rush, no pre-booking, MBO then, but mind you, the seat might be dirty sometime.

And my answer to ts, my vote goes to TGV as it's more comfortable compared to GSC except for TGV klcc (the seats suck!). But the downside is TGV is slightly expensive compared to GSC.

About the seat comfortably, most new cinemas provide large enough seats, either TGV or GSC.

But TGV KLCC is not worth it, the premium price for that location cannot justify its old and small seating.

Best cinema is at home.

Beat the crap out of any cinema hall. set up by baboon and babbonses that can't even calibrate the audio properly.

If audio they didn't bother to calibrate properly, conlanfim they don't give a shit about the display.

Better spend rm200k to setup home cine oh wait

Mbo the seats setting are not nice. Too close with small gap. Sometimes smelly like the one in Melaka Mall ( just went there once ) and noise isolation not done properly like the one in Brem Mall ( can hear music from outside ) but after all I like to go there as no people and sometimes you can even watch blockbuster that sold out everywhere with only one or two rows of people.

And nobody talks about the pricing of popcorn?

Price: GSC > TGV
Size: TGV > GSC hence more expensive. But nowadays TGV introduced boxed popcorn instead of bucketed popcorn. Not sure if the volume reduced

Can anyone recall about 3-5 years back then GSC had all titles labeled as 2D which the movie quality was so HD?

Not sure if the cinemas lowered movie quality or my short-sighted is worsened sad.gif its quite blurr these days

I always go to TGV because of the ticket price. Early bird+standard seat is RM8 only. I dont mind to sit a bit at the front.
However, their snacks are expensive af. I always smuggle outside food.

TGV seats sucks. Dont know why, but not comfy. Most exp as well.

Gsc is best in terms of ticket price, and seat comfort. And also easy to buy tickets thru the app.

MBO cinema doesnt feel cosy. Feel like they use alot of cheap materials. And the seat layout in some of their cinemas is stupid. Only one walkway in the middle with seats to the left and right.

new TGV popcorn is smaller than GSC.
The large popcorn now is the size of the previous medium.
and its fuckin RM16 for 1 large popcorn +1 Drink.

Nowadays GSC all HD already.
Atmos Priced higher a bit but better sound system.

I disagree.
Last time yes, TGV hall very small want to maximise seats so they make it very near and seat is so straight... but now quite comfy d although price is slightly expensive than GSC.
And then GSC seats used to be very comfy but i noticed some halls the seat is way way too senget until cant lean my back and head face forward until have to stretch the rear neck till neck pain.

GSC is best value for money.

that was the early adoption of digital movies.
2D means digital movies. Nowaday all digital movies.
So no need to label anymore.
*
When it was first adopted the movie quality was crisp and hd. I had eyegasm everytime. Now so blur can't see all the details sad.gif is it just me?

Not HD + screened at 30fps= dizzy action movie

QUOTE(jishu @ Apr 18 2017, 12:55 PM)
At GSC: RM11.++ I get = 1 Large Popcorn + 2 Large Soft Drink

At TGV, how much for the popcorn?
*
RM14-RM15.

It used to come in bucket so the bucket was damn big. Size maybe 150% as much as GSC large popcorn box.

Now they've followed GSC footstep and changed to box packaging

if all the time, then it's just you. if in some scenes/movies only.
then could be projector settings issue or censorship zoom.

But sadly the seat is actually to close between the front and back ayam seat back also see people head in the front. sad sad.

So kum share opinion /k
*
My experience

GSC - seat so so, not so comfortable , price is okay, food and beverage is so so

TGV - seat is good, very comfortable, price is high, food and beverage is good but pricey

MBO - sucks

*
TGV is expensive on seats because they based on "tiers" - got normal, preferred, premium and couples. GSC on the other hand are mostly normal and couple only, but got exception in the form of "D-Box" seats in certain cinemas.

From Kuching and there is TGV, MBO ,LFS, GSC here.
My most frequent cinema is TGV after they open. Sunday show before 12PM low tier is RM8. Wednesday is RM9. which is OK by my standard. No popcorn no soft drink.
TGV seat is wide and comfy , seat in the middle also can stretch leg (mind you i am 6'1")
GSC seat & leg room very narrow , like AirAsia seat , every time go have to seat beside aisle,no Fun. price is also nearly the same as TGV .
LFS Summer Mall have good seats and I can sit middle seat comfortably watching "antman".

Ayam just went to cinema (MBO) after many years of not going. And ayam surprised because on weekday BntB (* off season some more) was priced at RM 13+; and a combo of popcorn + water was RM 11. Maybe because ayam went to the Starling. Suddenly ayam feeling so broke puke.gif

TGV is most value for money.

Why? Membership reward system

Maybank RM10 promotion for everyday for show before 6pm. (get a debit card from Maybank also can) The promotion seats is for preferred seats if preferred seats full then they will open for normal seats.

Bad things about TGV is their staff always want to check bag for guys and overpriced F&B

GSC - you can choose student price at the apps and they don't bother checking whether you are student or not.

Another good is one price for all seats (except couple seats)

The F&B is consider cheap compare to TGV but TGV got popcorn royale which taste is nicer but sweater.

The bad things about GSC is they dun have membership card.

MBO - Weird ticket pricing, they includes sen (last time i watch RM14.20). I did not try their F&B before so I cant comment about that

TGV is the best for me. Movieclub point so easy to get.

Usually I help bring my anak buah go to movies, easy points to claim. tongue.gif
And claim points for movie premieres which is way expensive than normal.

Also most of my friends also dont have the card, so I get to claim the points for myself.

TGV 101

Best movie quality - Only they have Imax in Malaysia ,and by far Imax produce the best picture in term resolution etc etc...
Online Service - So so i guess , can collect points and redeem tix and all that ,free tix on your birthday, low price on certain occasion/things,pretty good deals/offer every 1-3 months. website/app crashes sometimes , doesn't sync/update well (sometime it shows no 3D for a certain movie , but then few hours before the movie starts , it shows 3D option).Any big movies like fast/furious transformers , online service gets buggy/offline(for first show only)....online purchase cannot be refunded...
Comfort - i noticed that even if you choose same type of seats ,its still diff than other TGV , my place has three TGV cinemas , each of them feels diff even thou i choose the same seat type....So hard to tell , depends on hall size or place i guess , but if u wan extreme level of comfort , Beanie...only they have those huge bean bags seat in Malaysia , trust me its comfortable asf...
Pricing - Expensive , but if you get the expensive tix like beanie,3D-X,imax from any good offers , worth it..
F&B - so so....their special (royale popcorn) is worth the money if the flavour is good , they change the flavor every month or so... nasib...but overall kinda pricey for what they give you...popcorn skit nak mampus...
Overall.....depends on you, if you're the type of person who likes watching movie on regular basis , not only big movies , any kinda movies like me , TGV is okay lah...

I tulis panjang about TGV cause i go there 2-3 times a week to watch movie(i like watching movie).....i tried other cinemas...but idk why i stick with TGV....help me😂

1. Normal TGV membership card are expensive, because it costs RM30 with 1 year expire date and membership pack! Don't think about "TGV good value for money"! Because TGV membership card and normal tickets are too expensive! NOT A GOOD VALUE AND TOTALLY WASTE MONEY, sure it's totally fine for maybank users but for normal users (aka non maybank customers)....NO NO NO!

2. GSC cinema are also offers a membership card too, but it's free to sign up, the only problem is they only offer a membership virtual card (GSC ID) instead of the membership plastic card which not too bad but because it requires GSC app for phone to earn points by showing your phone with GSC,app+GSC ID number so it's a little bit hassle but consider TGV membership are expensive, GSC membership are free so it's good value for money.

3. If you want a Cinema membership card, go for MBO Cinema (StarClub card), their membership card are free to sign up and it has free lifetime membership so there is no expire date as no Renewal fee!

So, is the TGV cinema a good value for money? NO!
*
with RM30. u get 4 free tix and 1 regular popcorn..
its already more than the value paid for membership.

However, TGV movieclub card are expensive, it costs RM30 for first time sign up with membership pack and RM20 for renewal fee with 1 year expire date, not a good value for everyone. Honestly, I do prefer MBO starclub card just because they are free lifetime membership, no expire date as no Renewal fee and it's free to sign up.

If you buy 10 movie tickets a year, they waive the renewal fee.
That's like watching 5 movies a year with your movie buddy.

Whoever said that TGV membership card is expensive clearly dont watch enough movie a year. Going to 3 years with TGV, all i ever paid was for registration and every year auto renew, u might want to stick to your inferior leg room space GSC.

Everytime i go watch movie, just buy using TGV membership and get reward point, all my drinks + popcorn usually free.

You can't do generalization like that.

I watch either GSC or TGV depending on the dates and location.

TGV D-Pulze Cyberjaya has small leg space compared to GSC IOI City Mall.

For less popular movies I will opt to go TGV D-Pulze because it's just 5 minutes away to my home. I can sacrifice leg small leg space for 2 hours for that.

For action movie I will go to MAXX Screen at GSC IOI City Mall. This hall has ample leg space too.

If I feel like indulging (mind the pun) I will opt for Indulge screen at TGV 1 Utama.

During foreign film festivals I will go to GSC Mid Valley to watch foreign movies that won't be shown on other cinemas.

TGV membership include 2 movie ticket and 1 set of popcorn + drinks set la.. dei.. GSC birthday reward damn troublesome to claim.. need to print out then fill in details some more only can watch movies with asterisk which is old movie only.. rclxs0.gif

TGV birthday membership can watch any movie that is showing in their cinema and also can claim for couple seats. No need fill up any bull shit form and then watch old movies. Btw, regarding renewal membership, i dun remember that i was paid to renew my membership. As long as you use the membership card, the renewal fee is free. Even i pay for it, it just RM10 and upon renewal, you will continue to enjoy your Birthday Freebies (2 x FREE movie tickets1 and 1 regular popcorn with 1 regular soft drink). Still value for money and worth it. hmm.gif

I understand that it is harder to apply for Maybank credit card but they accept debit card also. Everyone can open a bank account in Maybank and get a debit card. I see why not if you want to apply that card for TGV purposes. innocent.gif

Besides that, TGV will invite members to participate in first screening of movies, just go to your mailbox and participate. GSC invite the publics to watch the first screening of new movie which mean that the chances you get the free pass is lesser than TGV because TGV only invite members to watch first screening. whistling.gif

Regarding MBO? Apply for starclub card for what? They only have a few cinema around klang valley. The nearest MBO near my location is Spark Desa Petaling which is a dead mall. If i want to go, i will only go Starling which is very far from my location. My nearest location is TGV Setiawalk, GSC ioi mall or GSC ioi city mall.

TGV is not value for money? think again! rolleyes.gif

For RM30, you get 2 tickets which you can use individually, and a medium popcorn with drinks set. In your birthday month, you get another pair of tickets. Depending on time and location, yes TGV tickets are more expensive than GSC, but it's not far more expensive.

Plus if you spend RM200 within a year of registration date, it will be auto-renewed and you get the benefits of paid renewal.

Whereas GSC doesn't have that, all day except wed, (new movies)  charges fr RM 14-18

Tgv mostly have in aeon,  where parking is at most RM 1

Just saw the RM10 for all movies before 6PM Maybank promo on the side of TGV Escalator .I always go RM8/9 movies before Noon on sunday and all day RM9 Wednesday but now i think no need anymore. can go to the before 6PM shows.

In Kuching TGV is best , Wide leg room in all of their halls , halls are quite big. Never go to GSC after TGV opened here in Kuching.

As a few mentioned about the App side of things, the app is now quite OK if you just jump straight to "Favorite " location after launch it will show the movies and showtimes for your local cinemas instead of choosing the movie and then the cinema.

The Pay by Masterpass Buy 1 free 1 (on next visit) promo is still going on and the free pass is good for ALL new and old movies and can be used on public holiday too. Just saw "Ready Player One" on Public Holiday( Good Friday) using it. (the Android app have a glitch that it will autoclose during masterpass payment if your MSOS code was sent to u and you need to jump out to Messaging to read the code, so a lot of people cannot complete payment with Masterpass) I just use my ipad to buy and read the code on my android phone and get the free pass biggrin.gif they will email you a bar code and you need to claim physically at the Boxoffice.

Talk about TGV-masterpass buy 1 free 1 (on next visit) promo, I just bought tickets via TGV Cinemas mobile app. According to their T&C, I will receive an email with an e-voucher code on the next day.

It's a bit technical to enjoy this promo, first I signup masterpass on laptop as there will be many typing ahead. In masterpass.com page, choose MY from the top panel bar, wait for auto-refresh, then proceed with signup. Filling up personal details and card info, enter OTP password for verification and done. (*the first time I signup on masterpass.com, I stuck at the "State" dropdown coz all options are US states doh.gif )

I proceed to buy tickets via TGV Cinemas app, for my case it is Android app on Xiaomi phone. Luckily the app is not closed when I received MSOS code, so I can switch between TGV Cinemas and Messaging app to complete the masterpass payment.

https://www.tgv.com.my/promotions/promos/masterpass-campaign

**Update: Received a FREE e-voucher from TGV, which can be used to redeem 2 movie tickets at TGV.

Have to experience and record it down yourself, every halls are different even in the same cinema location.

E.g. small halls in GSC Mid Valley, you will suffer with high screen even in row A in hall no. 17, not to mention the middle or front rows.. But good luck to you if took last two rows in hall 5-7, can't even read subtitles as it will be too low.

It really depends on the hall itself as imap.cc mentioned.

If small hall, always opt for the most back seat.

If big hall, opt for middle seat.

I find the cheapest now would be the RHB RM8 Ticket for MBO, any movie, anytime.Only need to use either your RHB Debit Card or Credit Card

Despite the limitation to only 4,000 tickets each month, seems like people didnt really use it that much. (Last sunday 14Oct, ayam still can use it.)

Hi Guys, I'll only compare MBO and GSC since only those two are available here in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Pricewise, it's generally the same between the two. Though, there are two main instances in which one has an advantage over the other. During weekdays after 1 p.m., tickets for adults is cheaper in MBO. However, during the weekends before 1 p.m. GSC is cheaper. Not to mention, MBO is cheaper for kids no matter what or when.

Concessionwise, I prefer snacks in GSC. But that's just my personal opinion. It doesn't really vary in terms of concession pricing for the popcorn combo between the two. Nonetheless, if you select the single pack or share pack combo in MBO, it is RM1 and RM2 cheaper than normal respectively.

Comfortwise, take this from my mom who's out of shape when I say that she prefers the seating in MBO since it's cushioned throughout the seats whereas the arm rest and sides of seats in GSC is not cushioned and you come in direct contact with the metal of the arm rest when seated. Nevertheless, in terms of cleanliness GSC wins hands down.

The edge that's decisive for me is the fact that MBO provides points for every ringgit of transaction made with them. GSC offers nothing. In addition, the points can not only be used to redeem ordinary rewards such as tickets and concessions but you'll also be able to redeem movie merchandises regularly! This is something I believe even TGV does not offer. To top it off, MBO has the 'Happy Wednesday' campaign in which tickets are flat at RM 9(*with the exception of new releases and sneak showings of course!) as well as double points awarded for any transaction made on Wednesdays for that Wednesday. That's game-changing to be honest!

All in all, I prefer MBO without contest. It's fair and rewarding beyond compare. I certainly do not mind sacrificing price at certain times and cleanliness for the points which I get to collect and put to good use later!

NO!

There is points offered by GSC😱??? I had no idea. Just checked, and that's not advertised in the website. What am I missing? How do you guys collect points? Mind showing me?

Best seat would be between 2/6 and 3/6 from the back. You get the best audio and the best visual where the screen would fit in nicely in your field of view.
