So, yes. You can straight jump to MIUI9(assuming you're on official rom).

In China release, there are 2 SoC based-variants. Mediatek=RN4, Snapdragon=RN4X
In global release, there is only one SoC based-variant which is the Snapdragon version and it's commercialised as RN4.
As long as yours is the Snapdragon, and furthermore with EIN label, rest assured it is a MY set.

Hello all. Everyone using MIUI9 Global stable, I believe it's 9.0.5.0 now, how is it now?
I still on 8.2.10.0 and was reluctant to upgrade when they first launch and release MIUI9 for RN4(SD).

I have one interesting situation though. Whenever I use my second sim(Digi) as data(first sim celcom), the location seems to get screwed. It's showing Padang Serai on Google app cards and weather info which is very far, far away from my actual location. This happened even if I turn off mobile data and use wifi. And Google Maps too will show I'm at Padang Serai momentarily before showing the actual location.

Sounds like you're not in hurry. I would get the newer. Redmi 5 Plus.

Obsolete is a strong word. They both are using same SoC. Think it will but I don't think it will be for monthly.
Newer one however have edge-to-edge display and LED light for selfie. For camera photos, you can check these out.

From reading through this thread, different people have different experience.
In my experience, the phone is quite good already(or maybe because I'm not used to a flagship).
I'm only on basic stuff mostly, social media. Not even gaming.
The sound recording in video however(haven't tested audio record) isn't impressing. The noise canceling is either working too efficient or just crap. Camera like you've seen.
GPS is working well for me. Waze definitely takes longer time/harder to lock than Google Maps. I'm on Google Maps most of the time anyway.

Regarding to software update, I'm not really convinced by Xiaomi. Probably once in 3 months? I'm talking about official global stable ROM here. Not my time now to tweak this and that, ROM here and there anymore.

I'm afraid I'm at my limit now. Maybe others can help if you if there are more enquiries.

That's weird. Does the problem persists if on WiFi? How about trying different browser?
I'm no expert but my guess is probably different access point setting maybe between the phones? And maybe try reinstall browser (I'm using chrome).

Guys, my Redmi Note 4(SD) 32/3GB is currently on android 6.01 with MIUI 8.2.10.0(Global official) on top.

I'm not sure what's the most current update but should I update mine? Having no issue now if that helps.

No problem but one thing annoys me when I could only see kotak once in a while. No latest emoji native support.

Isn't Nougat(typically newer android) always update/add emojis?

iirc you could but that involves rooting and modding something which is really too much works to put into and really inconvenient. Upgrading android is the much much simpler and logical solution.
Anyway modding is way beyond my time now.

I rarely use Waze because of that. Noticeably slower compared to Google Maps. I think it's down to developer support. Probably not optimised for Xiaomi. That's my guess.

Guess I'm lucky. So far my experience with Google Maps is quite satisfying.

Looks like this new 9.5.8.0 update looks promising from the response here. Like the internal audio recording and improved GPS performance.
Hope you guys can keep us on update about the performance. Will probably update(finally) afterwards.
