if they don't register as a business, they cannot deduct expenses incurred, and will have to declare the entire sum they receive as income...should not be difficult to determine, as it will all be with uber/grad database...

so they will need to register as a business, and then then can deduct legitimate expenses associated with the business...

welcome to the real world....

Well, whats written expenses above is no different than those that work in office. We no need pay car installment? No need service car?

Its the same la

Technically they can deduct car service, oil as expenses. But LHDN will need them to divide that expense between business and regular use.
eg. petrol RM 50 = 30 (personal) + 20 (business). Only business part is deductible...
of course car installment cant be use as expenses Lel...

yea.. both taxi driver and taxi companies pay tax. At least that is what the law requires..
In malaysia, enforcement is another thing all together.. Lel

If you got document to back you up. But even that a lot people didnt declare their side income. A sundry shop owner got fined rm 30k and another rm 20k for not able to produce documents. They dont have a system in their shop to tabulate the sales report.

if your total taxable income is less than rm3500, you will not need to pay any taxes as it's below threshold...but still need to declare....

Toll is paid by riders, why they even want to count it as expenses?

Grab drivers even told me the incentives they get can cover both petrol and maintenance. Apa lagi mereka mau?

Bigger question here is Uber/Grab paying their side of taxes. IIRC, they don't collect/deduct GST on their final bill.

And based on the above article, LHDN is suddenly realizing that they are not collecting as much as previous years, but they are oblivious to the fact that more and more people are being laid off and are jobless. So they are trying to figure out what are people doing for income and this would have been one of the highlights.
