QUOTE(nm7 @ May 12 2017, 04:48 PM)
why is it so hard to provide a speed of 10/20 mbps to citizens outside KL/Selangor area? we are not demanding super fast internet, why are we still stuck with 1/2/4/8 mbps? its now 2017. don need say hk, sg, japan but go and see vietnam, india and thailand, their internet way faster than us. serious joke.

No competition = no improvement. Sit and relaks. But frankly speaking streamyx and adsl also nearing its death already la, so whats the point spending money on upgrading. Better spend that money on Unifi deployment. If spend too much money on Streamyx then Unifi users complain pulak. Imagine if they were to offer faster streamyx, they have to upgrade all the cabinets in malaysia. Why not spend the money and manpower on Unifi? Its more future proof.

QUOTE(westlife @ May 13 2017, 10:37 AM)
Exactly, I think they should just increase the coverage for unifi.

For unifi lite if tap on existing streamyx infra, the speed and stability will not able to meet the needs eventually also especially for future proof.

There is also limitation of the infra that not all existing area that cannot support this unifi lite too. This explains why they dare not to officially announce it as eventually if ppl see the existence of such service but they cannot sign up, they are likely to make more noise. It is like "can see but cannot touch".
The demand for internet speed will only get higher.

10Mbps download and 5Mbps upload are enough for typical users now but may not for future.
*
Yup, as the demand gets higher and higher in the future fiber is the only way to go. If you were to pay the same amount of money to a person you would probably want him to work on expanding unifi coverage instead of upgrading streamyx infra. Common sense right.

Unifi Lite also use Fibre optic (IP) backbone and either Fibre Optic (FTTP) or existing copper line (VDSL2) at "last mile". So Unifi Lite don't use Streamyx infra till "last mile", otherwise you can use back the same phone number! Voice service at Unifi and Unifi Lite is in fact VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). Streamyx(ADSL) uses the frequency spectrum above the band used by voice telephone calls.
Wondering whether tm will ever retire the traditional copper telephony service in Malaysia and go full voip? blink.gif Any country that hv done so?

this why i think if  my whatever 25 may complete i will take either 179 if existed..  because  setup box not shared bandwidth.. thinking thinking.
*
Ya all of the media box and hypptv everywhere uses bandwidth, but IMO for those who already got astro at home the hypptv everywhere like no use ny, plus the pvr UI is so much easier to navigate.

TM better throw everything and offer only basic broadband without voice and video.

meaning.. sorry i not much knew network.. but  i still understand a bit if explain clearer. maybe my "taman" a bit far from main town sungai petani? around 15 km
*
No basically i just mean if u bring ur TV for repair and they say they need 1 month to repair, but actually the repair process only take 1 hour and u hv to wait 1 month for ur turn. Kinda like that.

They can patch the cable within a day and u gotta wait till they come.

i find it gross they forced RM50 worth of useless craps:
RM20 - free voice call (can waive *upon request* only)
RM30 - HyppTV apps, seriously??

Should allowed pure internet for RM99,
heck i would even take it if they mark up to RM119.
*
so true.

wouldn't that defeat the purpose of "current promotion"?

Ya, but its not even official yet. wont there be any 'official' promotion for the informed public after announcement?

this is d part where d installer will try to make a fast buck, no std pricing, I was quoted rm170 without even looking at the site.
*
I thought the fee for over ceiling installation is memang RM170 as stated in the website?

edit: they hv revised the fee and its now RM60 for the first 10m and RM10 for each meter afterward.

Normally how u guys do installation?
standard one (FOC) or over the ceiling or underground?
need concealed onot?
i'm broke as f*** now.
*
I postpone the installation till i am available at home haha. I actually laid all the duct already for the fiber cable when I did my whole house LAN wiring. So on the day itself i will just go up the attic and help put the fiber cable in the duct and wire it to one of the room. Then they will continue from there. Should be an easy 5 mins job and save me all chargeable fee for over ceiling installation. rclxm9.gif

Well plan ahead. thumbup.gif The Unifi installation guide indicates free 50M internal cabling (Entry Wall to FWS to BTU to RG to PC/Phone).
*
Yup haha, actually did all the rj45 cat6 + 5e cabling + faceplate myself also so nt sure whether still need their free cable. When they install they can just put the fiber together with the ethernet cables in the white casing. Save them a lot of time.

BTW, has anyone done their installation (fiber, not VDSL)? Wanna ask whether u are provided with the Fiber Termination Box (FTB) outside the house? I heard that some of the installer no longer provide FTB anymore? They just pull the fiber cable directly into the house from the pole and to the BTU?

QUOTE(MGM @ May 17 2017, 05:00 PM)
My Unifi Lite installation done last week without the FTB. Black-color Fiber pulled from pole to outside wall where they coiled the fiber for a few rounds(claimed for spare, SOP, but ugly), drilled a hole and on the otherside of the hole the fiber ended on the Fiber Wall socket(FWS), then from FWS a white-color softer fiber is pulled n connected to the BTU.
*
Wow, would the coil of cable be unsightly outside the house? In my taman i usually see the installer coil the cable on the pole below the white fiber termination point. have u requested FTB from the installer? TM trying to cut cost now hmmm... it would be difficult if cable breaks and need repair.
