You don't have to read through. Just tell us what is your budget and what you want to do with it, we'll recommend you something. We'll become unbiased promoter although we dun sell you anything.
But beware of those fanboys that recommend you Fujitsu, Toshiba or even Apple.

You want to go cheap, can get Acer with ATI 9700 64MB.
Also, Dell 8600 is nice.

Go to www.acer.com.my and www.dell.com.my to see all the spec for the price that you want.

Yes. 8600 is huge....

RM368 for 3 years onsite warranty. But only Asia Pacific.
Acer also can add warranty. Should be more than RM400 but its international warranty.

Warranty is always worth to add.

If you buy from SenHeng or Harvey Norman, default is 3 years for all notebook. No need to add money.

I'm actually looking at Compaq 3807, which is only available in certain shops in Singapore - ATI 9700 128MB for RM5000+ Unfortunately, HP's in a dispute with another company for allegedly stealing the design of this notebook from them, so even they can't directly sell this model pending a settlement smile.gif

which model?
normally, 256mb is just right to run Windows XP alone.. let alone the extra features in SP2 like the new built in firewall and stuff that requires extra memory. I was told that it's best for laptop to get more ram to reduce disk access n pull down loading speed.

If u dont intend to run graphic intensive applications like playing full 3d games, then it's not that good... add another 512mb ram n u will wont regret coz (512+256)-64, u still hv plenty of ram left.

the real bottleneck of performance 4 laptop is HDD, get a faster drive, u will feel the improvement more significantly but this come with the price of increase the temperature of yr NB.
