hi.. it's me again.. finally i got my notebook..
its screen is not like other LCD monitor.. it has a smooth surface like a mirror.. and the display is very clear and it's very wide.. good for someone who need to read a lot of things or programming like me.. hehehe biggrin.gif
the keyboard's buttons are soft even though i trying to get use to it since i had been using big big keyboard for so many years that i keep pressing the wrong key and tend to press quite hard cos big keyboard's key depth.. it has a dvd dual optical drive which allows me to play cd/vcd/dvd and the best part is able to burn cd and dvd.. quite fast too..
then.. the battery kinda drain up quite fast.. initially charged for 9 hours as i had been told.. when i brought it to my college and used the wifi for not more than 2 hours.. it uses about 50% of the battery power..

overall.. this m540 is great! hehehe:)

Hi guys. I noticed after reading this thread from page 1 that most of the potential buyers here have a keen interest in the specs of the graphic card bundled into the notebook ie ati, radeon etc. Is it because most of you are buying the notebook also as a gaming rig or for autocad or other graphic intensive usage?

The reason I ask is this - I'm looking to buy a notebook too, but I don't need it for serious gaming like HL2, WoW, etc. nor do I need it for autocad etc. Probably the only significant multimedia use I have is playing mp3, kid's games (like Barbie, Clifford, Dora and stuff) or watching Barney VCDs, DivX movies and tv programmes. Is the Intel Extreme Graphics sufficient for this? I don't need those high-specs graphic card right?

I'm looking at this model which I think is pretty decent for the price. It was recently advertised in the papers.

Compaq Presario M2013AP (RM3,799)
- Intel Centrino Mobile Technology
- Intel Pentium M processor 715 * (1.50Ghz)
- Intel 855GM Chipset
- Intel Pro wireless 2200BG WLAN 802.11b/g
- Microsoft Windows XP Home
- 256MB DDR SDRAM (will upgrade to 512MB)
- 40GB Hard Disk
- DVD/CD-RW Combo drive
- 3 USB 2.0 Ports + 1 IEEE 1394
- Integrated Bluetooth
- 6 in 1 card reader
- 15' XGA TFT display
- High speed 56k modem
- Integrated 10/100 Base TX LAN
- JBL speakers
- 6-cell Li-Ion battery (rated 3.5-4.0 hours)
- Stylish nylon carrying case
- 1 year warranty (thinking of extending this to 3 years)

Nice form factor too and silver in color. Please share your thoughts. Appreciate it.

so, how many hours can the battery last? from what i read from cnet, it only last for 2++ hours only...

if u are free, do test run 3dmark03 and 3dmark05 to see how many marks it can reach!

Does anyone have a NEC laptop here?

I am a unfortunate user of a NEC Versa E680. After around 6 month's usage, I find that the battery life has diminished alot. Currently WinXP reports 1% of battery life equals 1 min. I have set the power settings to Laptop but its the same. WTF.

My specs:
Intel Pentium M 1.5 ghz (Centrino)
256 MB DDR RAM
35 GB HDD

I'd like to know if other NEC users have problems with battery life.
