Here are my suggestion if getting a laptop:

For Wintel laptops, get IBM. Or maybe Toshiba. But always go for IBM. If you're on a tight budget, don't even get a laptop until you have enough bling bling. You'll end up with a crappy one and wish you haven't bought it. IBM laptops are very durable. And their laptops are good overall.

Don't ever get Dell. Dell is cheap and of cos you're getting what you're paying for. Which is crap. If you have a Dell, try pushing the LCD (when it's up) to see if it shakes / wiggles. And try that on an IBM and see the difference.

If you have money, get a Mac. I heard that iBook G3 900mhz with maxed out ram are able to run UT2003 great. Also Photoshop (but photoshop is better on G4). iBooks aren't that expensive anyway. But Powerbooks are always better. If you're planning to get a Mac, don't get it now, wait till Apple puts Panther into their machines. Expose is so sweet.

wildcatz,
TI's computer division (or was it just notebooks?) was purchased by Acer sometime in the late 90's, I think. That's why you'll find old TI model names like Travelmate and Extensa sold as Acers.

sonic_cd,
Gateway pulled out of selling computers in the whole of Asia, I think. I don't know if they sell anything in China/Japan, though, but they are definitely out of South-East Asis/Australia. They shut down their factory in Melaka in 2000 or 2001 I think.

Wildcatz, if you have like about RM10k and above to spend then go for the Tecras. M10 is about RM7k.

My opinion: Get the Fujitsu S6120. Is the best you can hope for for in the price range.

that 3 mth limited one is refurbished ones. You can check out www.dell.com.my and see... there's a section for refurbished coms. Specs not so good and etc lar... wat u expect from refurbished ones tongue.gif

Dell... the only thing that chokes is the international warranty. 3 yrs = MYR 729. They dun offer 1 yr international like the others. So that's one of the setback i have on them.

The other setback about dell is everything they offer... not so nice one. Most of their display cards all intergrated mem one... unless you wanna choke up ur wallet den different. They also have limited upgrades. and when you upgrade... cost you a lot more than the market price. So always scratch head there... sigh

wildcatz,
The 90-day warranty policy only applies to some of their new bottom-end systems (laptops and desktops).

I don't think I've ever seen any of their refurbs go with 90-day warranties, depending on the line many even come with 3-year warranties.
