I was trying to learn more about the 8 Immortals (Pa Xian), but not much literature in English on this.

Also, why did they cross the sea?

But it's interesting that in crossing the sea, they kinda invented team-work, as their leader suggested that instead of using magick to cross the sea, they should each use their expertise and together cross by boat.

八仙過海 各顯神通
The 8 immortals used individual tools to cross the East Sea 東海 to Fantasy Island 蓬萊仙島 (Japan nowadays).

There is not uncommon that most people appearing split personality when drunk. Much obvious when a person overly suppressing their emotions when conscious & vulnerably releasing when drunk.

That is dangerous where we need to learn how to synchronize these dual personalities into Oneself. In simple way, Speak your mind instead of hiding or keep telling lies.

Unfortunately sometimes, especially in a "sensitive" society, speaking our minds may get us into a lot of problems. So hiding some of our thoughts / emotions may simply be self-preservation and the right thing to do. Just make sure not to get drunk biggrin.gif

Anyway, too much alcohol is never good for us. When is too much? When you get drunk, it's way too much.

I was in Sales & Marketing cum Product Development of a Global leading manufacturer for 2 decades and proud that never tell a lie. Knowing that telling a small lie today would need a bigger lie tomorrow to coverup & then keep telling lies.

It took much trainings & practices in conveying a true message. Quote for an example, when my technology behind competition says thickness. The market was calling for 0.015mm Kitchen Foil where I sell 0.025mm with slogan of heavy duty Foil.

Btw, I was the person in-charge (Sales cum R&D) of 0.006mm Foil produced in Malaysia & initiator to cease operation when no longer viable after 10y later, when I was the Reginal Strategy Leader then. To develop the state-of-the-art product was challenging, to call off the strategic investment was much tougher.

Can't disagree on not telling lies. It's basic human decency.

However, many have made a lot of money and had a very good life by lying, or by simply withholding the truth. Very few ever get caught.

In a home / marriage situation, it's often wise not to be too truthful about your thoughts if your spouse is the "sensitive" type, as it will definitely erupt into a cold war situation. (eg. you are asked by your spouse "am I too fat?")

JasonAubama You have much business experience and expertise. You should be able to spot the next "big biz opportunity" when it appears. Wish you good luck.

Taoism teaches 5 incarnation categories:
Deities 神
Human 人
Animals 畜
Ghost (hungry) 餓鬼
Hell 地獄
*Immortal 仙 is beyond the incarnation cycle.

I think the concept is more on moral education purpose 🤔

Interesting topic.
In general perception, “Good” people rested Peacefully & “Bad” people would suffer for years. What about a Generous Charitable Drug-trafficker? Saddam Hussein, Osama bin Laden, George Bush, Mao ZeDong? I’m not sure the line of “Good” & “Bad”.

Telling truth & Not Telling Lie are two animals. I don’t always telling the truth 😅

Shall we run through an Innovation Approach to Brainstorming if “We created
Personalities (Soul/Consciousness) when Drunken (Subconsciously)”, with no prejudice & open minded manner?

End of the process, we could accept or reject the idea of “we made immortal spiritual beings”.

The Buddha was not a vegetarian. He did not teach his disciples to be vegetarians and even today, there are many good Buddhists who are not vegetarians.

It is true that when we eat meat, we are indirectly and partially responsible for killing a creature but the same is true when we eat vegetables. The farmer has to spray his crop with insecticides and poisons so that the vegetables arrive on our dinner plates without holes in them. In addition, vegetables are life form as well.

I’m not against vegetarians but it is impossible to live without consuming other life forms.

Agree. Besides Buddhism and Taoism, Chinese also follow Chinese folk religion and Confucianism. Very "rojak". It's seldom to find a Chinese practising the pure form of any one religion (not talking about those Christian and Muslim Chinese).

Tao really have alot of practise
Buddhist is fully on vege, but not apply to other state monk because those are mixed up already..

In malaysia, alot of chinese actually confusing about their own religion, they called themselve buddhist but they follow Taoism way when somebody is passed away. If they follow real buddhist, all foods are just vege, no meat at all.

True also. Buddha taught not to kill, which is an impossibility for survival. When we pull out a veg from the ground, we are killing it. When we cook a grain of rice, we are killing it. Our bodies' internal protection mechanisms kill germs and bacteria in the millions everyday for our survival.

In my opinion, many Chinese deities are created in such a manner (not even necessary to be drunk). Someone who was charitable in his lifetime died, then someone else decided the dead one should be deified / immortalised, then spread to his village people some stories. In time, the dead one became a deity / immortal in that village, and in time, it started to spread beyond the village.
