Damn, all my holdings in NAV, LTC, XRP......are in the red, mainly because I started buying altcoins late in the game.
Although my gains in BTC, XMR and ETH are more than sufficient to cover these losses, it still sucks to see your holdings lose money.

I can only hope that they will eventually go up again later......

Sorry to hear that. I'm surprised you bought LTC when it was 8+. I didn't dare buy it even though my LTC cost was around 4. LTC segwit looks like a no go. Wonder what will happen while waiting for UASF......  hmm.gif

XMR looks so dead. Like LTC initially. Hopes it moves up one day.....  smile.gif
*
Yeah, I was stupid/greedy/naive/all of the above.
I can only blame myself for this. mega_shok.gif

Actually I still have faith in XMR, I think there is a definite niche and real-life usage for it, just like ETH.
Anyway, like you said earlier, since I bought in low, I still have a lot of cushion for this coin.
Worst case scenario, I will just keep holding it for the time being.

Hi guys,
Question for the day:
a) Is the sending fee different according to the services you're purchasing etc?
b) Blockchain charged me 0.00027 per 0.01 BTC, is that average fee?
*
I'm not a guru, so I can only speak from personal experience.

The transaction fee is different according to the service, yes, and that is usually decided by the business, e.g. Poloniex, Luno, XBit Asia all have their own preset transaction fees, based on their decision on which fee will encourage a faster confirmation time.
I have not used Blockchain to send any BTC before, but in my experience, the transaction fee is not affected by the transaction amount.
For example, I transferred more than 6 BTC at one time (in one transaction) for around 0.0004 BTC transaction fee.

QUOTE(WooTz @ Apr 10 2017, 05:24 PM)
For some reason this week is the quietest week for ether. Nothing notable for now.

Everything seems to be delayed for another week or two.

Then next week onwards got MIT, Harvard Business School, Rice University conference, gnosis token sale, ENS relaunch, raiden, and it carries on till next month's alphabay and EEA reveal.

I like boring while it lasts.
*
The volatility on ETH seems to have leveled off somewhat over the last few days, mainly trading sideways now.
Hopefully once BTC stabilises, ETH will start inching up again.

QUOTE(kmarc @ Apr 10 2017, 05:47 PM)
Still early to tell? The saga on LTC still continues......  smile.gif

As with XMR, I'm thinking XRP also has a definite niche. However, with so much coins in circulation (was in 300 billion?), it would be hard for XRP to hit USD 1 as that would exceed BTC market cap by a huge margin.

Anyway, I'm sticking to my strategy. Long term, buy on the rise, play on the sidelines (Dash here I come!) and don't be too bothered about relatively small up and downs.
*
Seriously considering bailing out on XRP and just cut my losses. (Still battling with my pride on this one)
Then put the balance into LBC (no reason......just a gut feeling).
If you don't mind me asking......what's the percentage of BTC and ETH that you are holding?

I see... I don't intend to influence you but maybe you would like to look at the xrpchat forum especially this one, just posted 14 hours ago : https://www.xrpchat.com/topic/3756-internat...-flocks-ripple/

Original link : https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/internationa...nna?published=t

Again, I can see things are moving for XRP and I think it will have a future. However, I won't buy anymore unless it goes up further. And again, my 0.000002 XRP opinion only. wink.gif

BTC to ETH? Haha, I exhausted all my BTC. Just bought one BTC coin yesterday.  dry.gif
*
Sigh......I guess my only solution is to close my eyes and keep calm, and wait until the storm is over.
Too much red......making me depressed.
I should just console myself that I do not have too much in any coin to really give me any heart attacks......only 0.2 - 0.5 BTC worth here and there in the few altcoins that I hold.
Main holding still in ETH, BTC and XMR.

What's with the sudden pump of all the V-coins today??? rclxub.gif

Bidding for vanity account names, contract, dapps. Etc.

This is going to be locking up massive amounts of ETH for a year. Going to watch this one very closely.
*
Is this "locking up" of coins good for ETH in general?
I understand that it will create value, but it would also remove liquidity from the market, no?
Or am I just missing the point?

In a way, it's good for price stability. Not much coins left for shorting, mostly it'll be locked under ICO contracts, ENS and soon POS. This'll help to drive further demand.

Speaking of POS, I like the negative 8% by default, and validators need to maintain their node to break even and enjoy their 4% interest.

No slackers!
*
Damn, now I'm in a dilemma.
Buy ETH or buy BTC next???

You're better off holding Bitcoin or Ether based token.

Ripple itself holds 62 Billion tokens, that isn't very decentralized in my opinion.
*
It's mind-boggling to think that there are so many billions of tokens for that one coin.
I kinda think I'm just going to cut my losses and get out of Ripple.
I don't have a good feeling about this coin.

Don't be rude. I know I'm new here. But I'm not new to Crypto-Currencies. If you try to disrespect a newly joined member I'll have to report you to moderator for being a bully here. I do not have to share or tell you why I'm recommending BTC, it's confidential and obviously ETH already reaches it peak time.
*
QUOTE(-CoupeFanatic- @ Apr 11 2017, 02:38 PM)
I don't know how is this being rude.
We're all here to share and help each other out, i'm new to crypto and I am interested to know as to why you are recommending BTC. I'm looking for answers just like everyone else. Simple as that, but you obviously took it the wrong way.
"But I'm not new to Crypto-Currencies."
By the way, everyone is new to cryptocurrencies. Every single one.
Please do report me if you deem it necessary. Have a good day. smile.gif
*
Cool it down, mates.
Nobody is bullying anyone here.

@COLORWOLVES, we're all here to make friends, and newcomers are always more than welcome. We try to help each other out, and discussions are very much encouraged of course.
What @CoupeFanatic meant was that it would be much more helpful if everyone could post something engaging, for the benefit of others, such as why you buy or avoid any certain coin (i.e. you've done some sort of analysis, or have a unique perspective, or read a fascinating whitepaper, etc.).
For example, if I say to someone "Hey, buy XMR!" and then I tell him "I don't have to tell you why, because it's confidential" isn't really going to help the person understand XMR more, and could even come across as arrogant or condescending (which I am sure is not the case in your post earlier).

There are many trolls and spammers in the other threads on Lowyat.net forum (which thankfully we do not have in this thread) so we are all rather stringent on that (myself included).

Interesting discussion. I am really new to all these and I just say this forum has been very helpful to me. Just wanted to ask how much is safe to be placed on exchanges and when should we start to consider wallet like ledger or Trezor. I know individually it differs

Great to see points being out across to justify which coins to put our money into. I have nothing to contribute yet so for now I just record my appreciation and be a lurker ... Lol
*
Technically speaking, no amount is safe to be put in exchanges......but unfortunately, there is no other way to be able to trade quickly and efficiently, so you have to strike a balance between convenience and security.
Normally, I suggest the Rule of 5.
If your holding in cryptocurrency is 5 times the price of a hardware wallet or more, then it is worthwhile to buy a hardware wallet.
Meaning, anything above approximately RM1,500 worth of cryptocurrency, it is better to get a hardware wallet.

Wah segwit activation really make these altcoin jump in value suddenly eventhou it might just pump n dump.
VTC,LTC (might need to pull this out)
Digibyte also activating the segwit
Probably gonna see this one get pump after this.
*
My goodness, you're right, it seems like every man and his mother are going for segwit activation these days. blink.gif

As you said earlier, might be worth it to accumulate a bit just for holding long term.

But consider it this way......if the bull run goes on and it slowly makes its way to USD 1500, then USD 1230 now would seem really cheap. brows.gif

I'll be ecstatic if it does, of course......but right now, I think it's potential is less than USD 20.

History lesson for the newbies, don't keep all your coins on exchanges.

*
Yes, definitely.
All cryptocurrency intended for long term investment must be kept in hardware wallets, end of story.
Leave only what you need to trade in the near future on the exchanges.

That said, though, I think most of the smaller altcoins are not supported by any hardware wallets.
Limited options there.

What's with the sudden green candle on ETH?
Quite a pleasant surprise this morning.

QUOTE(kmarc @ Apr 13 2017, 10:39 AM)
Ya, definitely hardware wallet. I'm even thinking of getting another wallet i.e ledger nano S because it supports stratis and ripple (in the future) which Trezor doesn't. Anybody interested? biggrin.gif

But that's my problem, I have so many types of coins that's sitting on the exchange doing nothing but hardware wallets don't support. Granted there are paper wallets and what not but I'm not comfortable with them.

I just hope that Trezor eventually supports some more coins but when googled, it seems they are concentrating on Trezor 2 first, before going for altcoins.
Indeed. Exciting times. I really can't wait to see what the future holds but from current observations, it looks like it will be good!!!!
*
Do you know exactly which altcoins are supported by Ledger Nano S?
I tried looking for a complete list of supported coins, but not even their official website seems to show this.

Got leh, I listed it in our guide in the front page. Your first post tongue.gif. Ledger developer confirms they will support ripple soon. Got this from XRPchat.
*
Ah......stupid me...... tongue.gif
But then again, how did you get this info?
When I checked the Ledger official site, it just says "bitcoin, litecoin, ethereum and altcoins" and didn't actually give a full list of those "altcoins".
If this is true, though, then it means you have more than 20 types of coins sitting on the Poloniex exchange...... scary.
I don't have that many of course, but still I feel quite insecure already.

"Only" 100 LTC......that's nearly 1 BTC worth already, i.e. more than RM 5400.
And that's only ONE of your 30 types of coins...... blink.gif
