QUOTE(waiwai_wai @ Mar 13 2017, 08:50 PM) sounds interesting I bump up my tyre pressures helping up at agility and fuel economy ... probably acceleration too, IDK.i'm also concern about anyway to improve acceleration ii tried 150-165 with stock, if night is okay, if daytime ...feels like pulling a cow and try to run fast Factory recommends front at 31 psi and rear at 35 psi. I selected 38 psi all round, now at 40 psi front and rear. |

QUOTE(waiwai_wai @ Mar 14 2017, 11:09 PM) Ya i heard that too, but i seldom do that Limited tyre overpressure (say, up to 30-50 % above OEM's ) at design loads won't cause tyre overheat.especially long journey, worry overheat will.....haha how far u can go for one tank ron95 It's tyre underpressure AND overloading that cause tyre overheating. Am getting 11.5-12.5 km/L i.e 400+ km per tankful fill. |

QUOTE(iverice @ Mar 15 2017, 09:52 AM) wtf 40psi?? thats like 400kpa on the tyre. 40 psi is 275 kpa , mate. Its way too high man. When i use factory recommended 31f 34r i also felt the rear tyre is floating left and right when driving alone or light loaded. I found that 210kpa all round is the best in terms of road feeling , well at least for me anyway. 400 kpa exceeds 185/70R14 tyre maximum allowable pressure, cannot pakai. Isn't 210 kpa too low for Avanza 1.3 ? |

QUOTE(waiwai_wai @ Mar 17 2017, 07:07 PM) underpressure means ? too light ? last time i used to get 12-13km/L, 410km+, 30-32litres sometimes depends on our foot if always below RPM3000, 10km+/L is possible but now i always around 9km/L or even lesser my Avanza 1.3 spec's 31 psi Front and 35 psi Rear .... Try overpressure to say, 36-38 psi to see if fuel consumption improves .... albeit a harsher ride possibly. |

QUOTE(iverice @ Mar 18 2017, 10:50 AM) well 210kpa for all four tyre is the best me, at least when tje car is in light load condition. Anyway XM2 that I have is not known for braking grip .. If i follow 210kpa fromt 240kpa rear, i cam litterally feel the rear tyre floating and skidding on those whiteline on thr road. imo, 275 kpa is too much for avanza, overpressure by that much amount is dangerous in rain, your tyre will not grip and im not kidding. |

QUOTE(waiwai_wai @ Mar 20 2017, 08:16 PM) You means the brake grip not so good ? Not sure tyre brands other than XM2 would make a difference .... probably would give it a try.. For me, I feel it is quite nice compare to Dunlop/Continental, in terms of pickup/ bouncy road/ high speed/ emergency brake Maybe need other people give opinion too or maybe it's inherent with Avanza, IDK. |

QUOTE(iverice @ Apr 24 2017, 11:09 AM) Guys, i just changed my rear absorber from the previous KYB Excel G to this silver colour KYB RS Ultra, it is definitely better than the previous Excel G in terms of going those patches potholes, etc. I heard ori Avanza absorber too soft and thus bumpy. Is that true? |

QUOTE(iverice @ Apr 27 2017, 01:37 PM) 100% true this. Thus you need stiffer absorber to reduce the bounciness. The ori toyota abs is too soft to be pair with the coil spring hence it cannot provide enough damping to the car. I changed my ori to kyb excel g before, but unfortunately excel g is more or less the same with the stock abs, now i changed this to kyb rs ultra, the ride is so much steadier. But i also heard that Gabriel or gab is also good for avanza. QUOTE(abubin @ Apr 27 2017, 01:43 PM) yeah..i used gabriel prevously and it was good. After the absorber spoil, the seller ran out of stock so I went to gab instead. I must say Gabriel is better as it is stiffer. Gab is a bit soft but still much better than stock absorber. Thanks, mate. |

QUOTE(butthead76 @ Feb 2 2020, 06:10 PM) Test run today seems ok, just a short drive didn't go Sprint, maybe workshop tighten bolts on suspension. Shell Helix Ultra 5W40 VOA virgin oil analysis shows additives like Molybdenum and Boron for friction reduction .Water pump belt pulley all running smooth silent like new car now. Also, I notice less load on each component, ac compressor working faster now. Shell Ultra oil seems good too, lets see when it approaches 10k km how it would feel. I have done 14300 km with this oil type in my Avanza 1.3 and very happy about it . This post has been edited by zeng: Feb 13 2020, 02:25 PM |

QUOTE(OnGx2 @ Feb 29 2020, 10:21 PM) Done my 100k service at SC today but surprised they didn't change spark plug for me. Is it necessary to change it myself? What model to look for if im gonna buy in shopee for avanza 2016 1.3 mt? The moment sensing my 2005 Avanza fuel consumption increases from 12.x km/L to 9.x km/L , I replace my cheapo RM12@ spark plug at 60000 - 70000 km usage with a gap width of 3 mm .Also saw many replace ecopia (mine is ep150 14") tires with dunlop j5, which one is better considering price / fc / safety? Have to go rocky roads sometime so i hope it is not soft tires like continental New spark plugs set doesn't help at all . Went back to mechanic checking with computer software , identify and replace old original (293K km) O2 sensor with non-Perodua O2 sensor , consumption returns back to normal like before . Hence, IMO you need not change it until and unless you can detect/measure huge increase in fuel consumption .Yes, that is not in compliance with OEM recommendation . Note:The over-long usage (vs recommended 20K something km ?) cheapo spark plug set at 3 mm gap width could still deliver good fuel consumption at 12.x km/L until O2 sensor goes kaput in my Avanza . Whilst engine starting and acceleration pick up etc were normal and in good shape . This post has been edited by zeng: Mar 1 2020, 11:58 AM |

QUOTE(OnGx2 @ Mar 4 2020, 07:04 AM) My acceleration / pick up not as good recently so i decided to buy new set of spark plug at my local sparepart store, but damn they gave me incompatible spark plug for avanza 2016 and no iridium one available. Looking online only one available https://shopee.com.my/product/21598223/1821633751?smtt=0.0.9 and cost rm270 which is even more expensive than toyota sc. I'm doubtful your 2016 has spark plug set and O2 sensor problem .However, you may want to check the electrical distributor cable/holder thing IMO . |

My 2005 Avanza 1.3 front wheel bearings lately gave some funny noise like a soft 'grrrrrrr' .
After replacing the 2 bearings , it is normal again . This wheel bearing problem is like every 2-4 years . Whereas my wira and Prado do not have such problem . Any one here has similar problem at regular intervals ? Do you think this is abnormal ? TIA. This post has been edited by zeng: Apr 20 2020, 09:42 AM |

QUOTE(eniltoh @ May 8 2020, 02:24 PM) Hmm so far the number of year I had my 3rd hand Avanza 2011 till now, I have only replaced once the bearings...all the ends at different times but still only once if my memory does not fail me. Here it teils some of the probable causes of wheel bearings going bad. https://www.moogparts.eu/blog/how-long-whee...rings-last.html Hope this helps. Your Avanza wheel bearing life is normal to me .The article you link to suggests average lifespan of 136,000-160,000 km is realistic and probable IMO . |

QUOTE(iverice @ May 21 2020, 03:00 PM) Thanks .Other than the recurring wheel bearings replacements , in particular front axle , I must acknowledge my Avanza 1.3L is generally quite maintenance free for the past since new and happy with it's reliability over 300K km mileage . IMO, this is typical Toyota or Asian vehicles . |
