I go to Mt Alvernia Kinder clinic, expensive but settle everything under an hour.

thats why... it's all about choices... not all places will cost you $300+ for fever.
same like makan expenses.
there's $2 nasi lemak for a meal at food court, and there's also $20 fragrant rice cooked with coconut milk served with delicately cut cucumber, roasted peanuts and anchovies at atas restaurant. biggrin.gif

Where can I taste this $20 'atas' nasi lemak?

here's a list, but i've not tasted it myself.
https://www.burpple.com/categories/sg/nasi-lemak

can only afford the $2 nasi lemak at the canteen below my office block, while the "fragrant rice cooked with coconut milk served with delicately cut cucumber, roasted peanuts and anchovies" is an actual dish name i've seen on a catering menu.

Another advise, if you are not rushing to drive then get your PR first then only go for driving license because in the end after PR need to convert to new driving license to reflect new IC number. That's what happened to me.
*
And the driving licence u got before pr will actually expire.
My friend kena, sg driving licence expired after he got pr, and he forgot to convert it until it's too late, so in the end he lost his Malaysia license and sg license, have to retake everything in sg.

you'll likely go viral and get lots of hate from the xenophobes before you manage to impress ICA. laugh.gif
continue to work hard and pay income tax to impress IRAS first ba... then try your luck again next year.

yes, they'll suspend your malaysia license on the system but u still get to keep the physical one...
if not wrong, you won't be able to extend it when expired...

mine still got 4 years so i have yet to try laugh.gif
*
you are only supposed to legally hold one or the other, not both at the same time.
and its the correct procedure for JPJ to suspend your licence, and they are not doing it in bad-faith. It is done according to law.

according to Akta Pengankutan Jalan Section 27(6)
English:
http://www.mbi.gov.my/sites/default/files/...rt_act_1987.pdf
QUOTE
(6) A person shall, subject to any rules under this Act, be
disqualified from obtaining a driving licence—
(a) while another driving licence granted to him in Malaysia
or the Republic of Singapore is in force, whether such
licence is suspended or not;
(b) if he is, by conviction under this Part or by an order of
a court in Malaysia or the Republic of Singapore,
disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence;
© for a period of twelve months from the date of revocation
of the driving licence under section 35, 35A, 41, 42, 43,
44, 45, 45A, 45B or 45C.

Malay:
http://www.jpj.gov.my/documents/10157/eda0...28-469b4520cf8a
QUOTE
(6) Tertakluk kepada mana-mana kaedah di bawah Akta ini, seseorang hendaklah dihilangkan kelayakannya daripada mendapatkan suatu lesen memandu—
48 Undang-Undang Malaysia AKTA 333
(a) semasa suatu lesen memandu lain yang diberikan kepadanya di Malaysia atau di Republik Singapura masih berkuat kuasa, sama ada atau tidak lesen itu digantung;
(b) jika dengan sabitan di bawah Bahagian ini atau dengan suatu, perintah mahkamah di Malaysia atau di Republik Singapura, dia telah dihilangkan kelayakan daripada memegang atau mendapatkan suatu lesen memandu;
© selama tempoh dua belas bulan dari tarikh pembatalan lesen memandu di bawah seksyen 35, 35A, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 45A, 45B atau 45C.

so, whats the point in trying to hold on to your old license, more so illegally when you try to get it done through runner or bribing the officers, when it's completely unnecessary to do so?

relax....now u don't even need runner or bribing to hold your old license...
JPJ won't even take it back now...
when i went to take the extract, i totally ignore all the runners laugh.gif
*
i'm talking about the suspension of the license in JPJ record which most are worrying about, and not able to renew etc...
JPJ will return the physical license, at most punch a hole on it to invalidate the card.

Mine not only not CANCELLED but renew and extended on that day itself after i obtained my extract. Just pay for renewal fees only. No need bribe at all.

Came back to SG with extract and got my evergreen driving license.

Got both MY and SG license valid.

As long as SG not bother i am fine and MY is anything also BOLEH!!!

so yea, must be "boleh la"
*
probably not updated in the system yet thats why the renewal went thru..
the moment they do the actual suspension in the system, then it'll become invalidated. Theoritically.. LOL
but yeah, anything also Boleh...
so the real test is your next renewal, then you'll know if its boleh or tak boleh...

must be a change in thinking from the govt. funny they decide to reject so many ppl...
*
i'd guess its more of the increased influx of malaysian in recent years, and considering if they did not increase the quota for malaysian PR, then only the cream of the crop will get it..
so the reason one is rejected is not that you're not good enough or not qualified, but there are just better candidates out there.. work your way up, improve your profile and try again.

Hi Forumers,

Would like to ask if $400 monthly rental for 1 room shared is it expensive?

Location at Sembawang drive, 10min to MRT also got included other utilities like electric, water, internet etc..
*
Kinda high i think for a shared room in sembawang.
i rented out one of my room to my friend at $600, includes everything, and my unit is just directly opposite of sun plaza..

see this as example: https://rentinsingapore.com.sg/ID164442
5 min to sembawang MRT, 1 room not sharing with others, asking for 550.

QUOTE(WallChecker @ Jan 13 2018, 10:56 PM)
I saw some discussion on salary and cost of living in Singapore.
On salary part, please don't use or ask people whether it is 1:1 or whatever. This is very bias comparison. Not everyone are paid the same in Msia, especially different locations where some have come from KL, Penang, Melaka and JB. U can definitely use 1:1 for your own comparison to gauge your risk and financial planning.
Same uni, same field, same specialization, same years of working experience doesn't mean each individual are getting paid about the same. Considering nature of biz, size of company, line manager/management and location (KL, Penang or JB) make huge different to individual's salary.
One Accountant in KL that earns RM8k doesn't mean every Accountant with same profile earn RM8k, and different locations with lower cost of living contributed to lower salary compared to KL.
U can earn RM8k in KL and offered SGD9k and telling people that u get salary increases even coming to SG. Maybe someone at your peers level or same profile as u are already earning RM10k and come to SG being offered SGD9k.

So please use salary benchmark to compare or use available market data to make comparison, Glassdoor is one of source u can go to. If u are too lazy to do your homework, then u should consider to stay put until u have the motivation to do your homework to come SG for work.

Cost of living in SG is definitely higher than KL/MY (This is assuming that u plan to settle down in SG, buy house, have kids and so on)
If u plan to live in JB or short term in SG then cost of living is not an issue for u. Work hard, save hard and go back.
Why I said SG is more expensive,
1) House (U can argue it is same price in KL or JB, but do u get same salary paid in SG?) U can buy new private unit condo 1000sqft in KL with RM650k, but can u buy private condo in SG with SGD650k?
2) Transport (If u are single, sure no problem. If u are married with small kids, then without car can be really troublesome) Kids need to go to school, emergency to clinic/hospital, grocers for family etc.
3) Insurance and medical (self-explanatory)

But if u plan to stay JB and work in SG for few years then go back to Malaysia, why do u want to make comparison? U already making 3 times more then your peers/friends in Malaysia (Assuming u get same salary in SG, and when the time u go back FX is still the same lol).
*
On the housing part, majority of Singaporean lives in hdb, so why is the comparison done with private condo? If you bought a hdb, you can service your monthly installment with cpf and possibly no cash out of your pocket, if you earn enough.

QUOTE(WallChecker @ Jan 14 2018, 03:43 PM)
This is true. I know a colleague that got PR for his wife and apparently his wife is working & resides in KL during PR application.
Please read some salary discussion from previous pages, there has been some comparison between 1:1 SGD vs MYR etc.
Responding to your questions.
1) Are u the majority of Singaporeans? If not, defeat the purpose of this discussion.
2) As mentioned, there has been some comparison on salary in MY as compared to SG, whether 1:1 or paycut and even some with salary increases. My views are purely for Malaysian who wanting/working in SG and taking into consideration on salary comparison and cost of living.
*
What I'm trying to point out is, the common affordable housing in Singapore is hdb, and not private condo. You don't need to be a Singaporean to buy a hdb. PR are eligible to purchase as well. Thus your comparison is skewed.
An average hdb can be had from $300k onwards, what can you buy with RM300k in KL? Something similar I guess, so it's not significantly more expensive if you are earning 1:1.
