Hi guys/gals, for those of you planning to start a family in SG, my wife and I got our first kid a few weeks ago. Thomson Medical (#1 most popular private hospital for childbirth), planned c-sec, 17.2k delivery charge of which 5.5k from medisave. Not including any of the previous doctor check-ups or future pediatrician visits.

Happy budgeting!

Wow 17.2k. Thanks for sharing. Didn't expect to be that high.

wow that is pricey... any subsidy from the government?
Apart from your own Medisave
QUOTE(crazy25kid @ Sep 30 2019, 07:52 AM)
anyway, congrats on levelling up

Any particular reason (s) why went for such expensive delivery?

Wife chose 的 obgyn based in Thomson, so Thomson it was 😂 csec instead of natural cos of some reasons. 5.5k medisave, rest credit card. Single Premier (non suite) room cos shared room husband need to gtfo at 8pm.

Of course if you normal delivery no complications at kkh then it's much cheaper, if I'm not mistaken around 4-5k.

Guys/gals, JB to Woodlands KTM train cannot buy online liao ah? I normally buy on Easybook website but now shows "JB Sentral - Woodlands route is temporarily unavailable. Sorry for the inconvenience caused" error message and can't find any trains available either way.

[edit] oh nvm, seems that https://ticket.ktmb.com.my/ still can.

Unless put in FD concurrently.

Not true, just a few months ago I used my name / payslips to help my parents buy a new place in KL.

Thank you for your sharing.
How many months after started work, can a contract job holder apply Sg PR?

Contract or perm doesn’t affect anything, what is more important is the salary you earn.

Your first day start work you can also apply liao.

But if you’re asking when should you apply to have good chance of approval, that is a bit more difficult to know. Some ppl here have gotten approval after being here less than a year. Others few years work apply also kena rejected. During my time the common advise was wait at least 1-2 IRAS income tax cycles, but because SG doesn’t publish criteria for approval nor give reasons for rejection, nobody can tell you with 100% certainty on how soon to apply.

I can only share that for me and my wife (separately cos last time 5 years ago not married yet), we both applied after around 2.5 years of work, I waited around 7 mths for approval, she waited around 9 mths. That time I early-mid 30s, she late 20s. Both earning around 60k pa incl bonuses.

Just avoid Yishun can liao. Crime and siaolang slum capital of the country. Even stay in Geylang better than Yishun.

Did a few search around for benchmarks and the indicative salary is within range.

If it’s the case then the offer is reasonable. The myr to sgd ratio thing is a gross oversimplification and doesn’t apply in all scenarios.

I dunno if seantang still frequents the forums but a while ago he gave us some research findings that at entry level the 1:1 ratio is quite accurate, but as seniority rises the sgd ratio drops quite dramatically, ie an rm50k job in KL commands far less than sgd50k here.

I am also curious about the education system in Singapore. If parents are PR but kids are SG citizen, do parents pay according to SG citizen tariff (way cheaper) or PR tariff (which is much more expensive)?
If you are so curious surely you would’ve googled Singapore nationality law as a first step whether it’s possible for parents to be PR and kids Singaporean?

Since employer will have to apply EP for us, the offer will always be lower than an equally graded Singaporean right?

No, not always. You can compete on skills / experience / capability / whatever, or you can compete on price. If your profile is competitive then you will be paid competitively, if your profile sucks then you will be paid accordingly lo.

When submitting documents such as Malaysian birth cert (in bahasa), an official translation by a SG body is required correct?

By right yes by left ... I think many (most?) of us just submitted untranslated and never faced any issues getting approval.

Disclaimer past performance cannot be taken as indicative of future performance 😂
