...which is annoying because my second M.2 slot is SATA only doh.gif
*
Yeah, that is one of the annoying thing. We have limited PCI-E lanes. With PCI-E 5.0, we could even go for x1 M.2 slots, but this would cause discontent among those with old SSDs. laugh.gif There are also board area constraint & manufacturing complexity (+ some other practical reasons) when we start looking for backside slots. sweat.gif

But you since you are still on AM4, just move on to a B850 with 3x NVMe slots. ASRock has plenty of options except of the infamous unknowingly dead processor issue. laugh.gif MSI B850M Mortar is pricey but it checks.

Is 1st player trilobite T7-P a good case? Never heard of the brand before. I wanted to go for cooler master 600l v2 but no stock at my local store. I am budgeting pc case below rm200.

Brand from china.
Try Montech Air 1000 Lite TG? hmm.gif

6+1+1 or
5+2+2

You can't compare this way. blush.gif There are different types of VRMs, so you need to validate the entire setup, not just single thing.

Hi, I need a very cheap PC build, maybe like 1-1.5k. Must be upgradeable with high spec of GPU (enough power supply for either 3080, 4080, 5080). Mostly using GPU to do some calculation, performance CPU not so required. Could this budget possible do this?
*
Not possible.
i5 14400 RM659
ASUS ProArt B760-Creator RM1099
Kingston Fury Beast DDR-5600 64GB Kit RM739
WD SN850X 1TB RM429
Lian Li 207 RM339
Arctic P12 Fans x4 RM168
FSP Vita GM 1000W PSU RM599

Total : RM4032

- You need quite some amount of RAM to support the GPU since data are copied to RAM first then only copied to GPU memory
- The board supports PCI-E 5.0
- Very ventilated case with all fans filled to get the GPU heat out

You forgot that 2 models has assorted BOMs that could effectively become variety of models? wink.gif

Mainly comparo with NV3 even its pisspoor hardware, the changing BOM was said to guarantee wont significantly affect the perf.
*
With this price, I rather get TLC than QLC. Have fun with 90MB/s write once the disk fills up.

How about Fanxiang s770?
Ok or avoid?
*
Avoid. Won't touch China product as there are always some hanky panky going on, i.e. unknown flash chip that they wipe off the original silk screen (or outright doesn't even need to do since those are defective chip, so original manufacturer will just dump them away) and put on their own label. Ideally find those brands that produce the flash chip themselves as it is inhouse supply.

QUOTE(babylon52281 @ May 29 2025, 10:02 PM)
Would anyone be transferring 500GB of uncompressed data? Hardly. I would still prefer DRAM drives for read/write intensive use like OS but as for storage, QLC has came a long way.
*
The SLC cache reduces as you store data into it. This amount also decreases way faster than TLC since you only have effectively half the amount for SLC mode at any time. doh.gif

Ok i will go with SN580. Tq
*
Note that SN580 is a dated product so you might not find it. The new model is SN5000 / SN5100 and they cost higher to the level of KC3000. If you don't want to go with that price, stick back to NV3. unsure.gif

You do aware the context is about pricing right?
Given SN5000/5100 is same price with KC3000, which would you choose?

A small heads up, Nvidia is shifting their manufacturing priorities towards AI GPUs rather than gaming GPUs - expect higher prices/more shortages in the future:

Take this news with a large grain of NaCl however, as it is based on a single forum post from AIB representatives icon_idea.gif

If they want, they could make design adjustment and buy up some Samsung capacity. hmm.gif

this might be a stupid question, but i ask anyways.  what tools do i need to biuld a pc? i know i need screwdriver, but what kind and sive? is the genetric one at mr diy suffice or do i need to get anti static and all.? what tools do you guys use.
*
M3 screwdriver, preferably with soft/rubberized handle. Better to have a electric screwdriver if you plan to screw many of fans in one go as standalone pack fan is not threaded. Your hand will thank you.
Also would need a small pliers for motherboard standoff if the case doesn't come with the cap to secure them.

Excel is getting more RAM dependant. Try upgrading the memory first, get 2x 8GB sticks
https://shopee.com.my/ZADAK-APACER-DDR4-320...8b-5e886c14970b

If this doesnt improve Excel perf, then its time for a thorough upgrade as above.

He already has a 16GB stick, why still 2x8GB. hmm.gif

For SSD get KC3000 as it has DRAM & TLC which is needed for OS bootdrive otherwise a DRAMless QLC like NV3 lifespan will go down fast.
*
1TB version is TLC. DRAMless isn't really the issue these days. I have said it earlier. The controller supports HMB, which uses small amount of system RAM as it's memory. doh.gif It only affects extremely high I/O scenario, which will not happen for TS's usage.

Yes, there is TLC variant regardless. Paying RM30 more would yield you SN580 / SN5000 with TLC, though.
