Meh... So far, I'm not impressed. Will not be upgrading at this time...

QUOTE(AVFAN @ Feb 28 2017, 10:34 AM)
why not start a dedicated MINIX thread?

great opportunity with this, more attention and tips for all minix users.

there is no active minix thread yet.
*
Up to others to decide if it's necessary.. IMO, it isn't as there's an official Minix forum with a very active user base.. Most lowyat.net members frequent it too.. So.. whistling.gif

Sure as long as it fits your requirements... Why not..

QUOTE(DeepMemory @ Feb 28 2017, 01:45 PM)
I am interested in that too. Can it play any video files via usb? Planning to use it to watch movies with .srt subtitle file.

Ha... If it can't play files off a USB, won't be much of a media player now .. would it? tongue.gif

I fixed the problem.

1. Disable the app "play store", it's 1mb in size. (This app replaces the playstore with factory version)
2. Uninstall updates for "google play store" app.
3. Download correct play store apk.
4. Turn off internet, disable google's verify apps(maybe optional).
5.Install playstore apk. (First time I try with internet on it ask to verify app halfway through install, maybe if click no when it ask might work).
6. Playstore become normal now.

I dunno why google thinks my box is google tv. It came with the google tv version of youtube, maybe manufacturer/seller made some changes. I scan with malwarebytes, came back clean. Should be ok.
*
Glad to hear it's fixed.. Many "funny" firmwares on equally "funny" boxes out there. A 1MB Play Store is a sure red flag..

Interesting review.. Kodi V17 works beautifully and with full HD Audio passthrough. rclxms.gif Especially the part where the firmware is able to switch frame rates on Krypton as it was on Jarvis.. So hopefully, that code gets introduced to the Neo U1..

I still have to agree with his conclusion..
QUOTE
If you already own MINIX NEO U1, there’s probably little reason to upgrade, as performance will feel similar, except if you need 4K VP9, HDR, Widevine L1, or/and Microsoft PlayReady DRM support.

Don't need any of the above as yet and so will hang on to the Neo U1. Besides, rather add on the extra $40 and get the Nvidia Shield TV 2. You planning to get the Neo U9-H? brows.gif

Hi guys,

I'm in a dilemma here as i duno which to choose between Himedia Q5 Pro or Minix Neo U1

I know comparatively minix u1 is an older product compared to himedia q5 pro. Mind telling me which should i go for and why?

I mainly use it for kodi 1080p videos only. No 4k tv at home so yeah.

Thanks much!
*
Get the Neo U1.. I use it and it's rock reliable for Kodi (which I use like 90% of the time) and 1080p videos. Non-4K TV here too. Plays every mainstream content I've thrown at it.. Smooth.

yes bro, i cant settle with normal DTS/DD, i can actually hear the differences even with only 3.1 setup, u just need a decent HT setup for that. Yeah, the old Realtek 1195 chip can do HD audio and 3D few years back no sweat, but now seems like even box selling for 300-400 also cant do that sad.gif

So bro, what's your recommendation for android box that can do that? i actually bought a mibox 3 enhanced edition for my parents to watch asteruk via internet, i having 5.1 setup at my living room so i was hoping that i can use that mi box to replace my againg 1195 media player. But currently outstation so unable to setup, gonna hope that people are correct with KODI r17 can passthru dtshdma and truehd
*
Simple.... Get either of these 2.. If budget can't afford, don't question... Either increase or settle for less..

*Nvidia Shield TV 2 or
*Minix Neo U9-H.

Not anytime soon.. Have to overhaul current AV system & increase broadband speeds (TM's free upgrade hasn't kicked in yet) first to take full advantage of it. Otherwise, it'll be overkill for my current needs, which the Neo U1 satisfies (somewhat). brows.gif

Hi, any recommendation?

Budget: below RM180
Requirement: 720p, just wanna watch from app Astro on The Go, HyppTV, NHK World. I assume all Android box can install the same TV app as in Android phone?

Pls tell if this isnt realistic. Real noob lel
*
As AVFAN says... Hard to find a box at that price point that will run all three apps without issue.. Or even will continue to run any of em after an app update is pushed. IMO, rather than end up with a severely subpar device when either of the apps above isn't working and you can't run other capable apps on it... better increase your budget, get a better device, so at minimum, you still have a device capable of running other apps well.

yeap....definately its all true...

and since the box will sit near to the router... distance wouldnt be much problem....and i plan tu hook lan cable as well to the box....
for now, its a waiting game...  tongue.gif
btw, now my main concern is if the box came in the box already rooted  (as most other china android device),  installing ASStrX OTG would be slightly difficult and need extra effort......will research on that more later on...  sweat.gif
*
Direct to router LAN cable is the best. AFAIK, getting AOTG to work on a rooted device isn't "slightly difficult", it hasn't been achieved. I stand corrected if a flaw in the app has been discovered.

You know how certain videos, the actor's voice will be so soft, have to turn up the sound then boom explosion/music make you deaf, anyway to fix this? Software fix maybe?
*
I believe what you described is when the dialogue stream, meant to be sent thru the front-center speakers (say in a 5.1 setup) alone, is instead being forced thru a regular stereo setup.. Probably time to upgrade your audio system.. Most TVs won't ship with such advanced audio separation or volume-leveling features.. Home Theaters and AVRs are better at separating and handling multiple channel audio.

Edit: Dynamic Range manipulation... Kodi does have a setting in the Audio Output section... Try enabling the "Maintain original volume on downmix". See if that helps.

Usually the player or TV "should" down mix properly... I think the guy screws up the encoding...

If it's a 2.0, new AVR won't help...
*
I watch a lot of mixed content thru Kodi and yet to encounter such.. Audio is always routed via HDMI-ARC to a 5.1 HT setup. Within the HT's settings, DB levels of each individual speakers can be adjusted and since the front-center speakers almost always carries the main dialogue, that is set slightly higher than the rest.. Distance to sitting position dependent.

any good android 5.1 box with 2G RAM and 16G/32G storage to recommend?
have a dilemma, heard android 6.0 isnt as steady compare to 5.1, but the latest cpu 912 are all come with android 6.0. Hardly see any android 5.1 with 2G ram (normally only 1G ram). so.. i am stuck.. dont know what to buy...

Just get the Minix Neo U1 with the Neo A2 airmouse.. or the newer A3 remote if you can get your hands on it. It's a device that's been out for awhile, battle tested and cheaper than ever. Has 2GB RAM, 16GB ROM, Android 5.1, can be rooted/unrooted at will and has a solid firmware with OTA updates. Lots of real world reviews on it, including mine.. It's my current device and I can answer any specific concerns you have about it.

Need Sifu advice here.

Watching iflix movies from HyppTv box buffers a lot.
But watching iflix movies from iPad and Samsung tablet no problem.
Can I buy an Android box, install iflix apps and watch iflix movies.
Can a RM400 Android box solve the buffering problem?
Currently using Unifi VIP5 expected to be upgraded to Unifi 10.
*
That happens..
Sure..
Sure you can.. The iFlix app can be finicky.. So buy a box that supports it...
Sure.. Device and your network dependent... But if it works smoothly on the tablets while connected to the same network, on a more compatible box, it'll play smoothly too. If the box will be positioned near the router, be sure to get a box with Ethernet capability and connect using a cable for best results.
I used to use iFlix on VIP10 and it was sufficient.. The bulk of iFlix's content is SD. So as above, healthy VIP5 network should be sufficient.

Want to know more about your home network beyond the normal speed test? Particularly informative for WiFi connected devices.

Find Out How Good Your Internet Connection Is with Meteor.

QUOTE
After you’ve run a speed test, Meteor can then give you insight on how well your internet connection will perform in specific apps. These include YouTube, Facebook, Google Maps, and even Spotify. Meteor uses the same grading system – from Awesome to Poor – for these apps too.

It doesn’t just end there: Meteor can also tell you what will specifically work – or not – in particular apps. Take Spotify for example: on a 20Mbps connection, Meteor tells us that we will have little to no problems searching for songs and listening to songs in extreme quality, but downloading a whole album in high or extreme quality wouldn’t offer the same level of performance.

It's a decent contender, especially with such WiFi results on non-ac tech..but with such limitations as pointed out, don't think HiMedia is worried.. Plus their "unique" claim about being the first media box with Blu-ray navigation menu?? Please, it's only cuz of VidOn XBMC Pro included. They've been around & can be installed in other devices, we just don't want to pay for it.. tongue.gif

Now if right off the bat, Kodi 17.1 RC can passthrough all the chip supported HD sound formats and automatically handle frame rate switching? That would put em on top.. My two cents.
