why is your syrian even on your head in the first place
died laughing
anyways, has anyone here tried homemade hamster bedding.
steps include immersing toilet paper in hot water, mushing, balling and drying them.
with our superrrrr hot weather, im sure it'll dry relatively fast.
i read that odour control could be a problem with this homemade ones but if i can save money in the long run, why not
may mix 50:50 ratio with commercial paper bedding...
as for bathing sand, does anyone actually leaves the bathing sand in a small container in their hamham home?
downside is the hamham might use it as a bathroom if not potty trained eh?
as for my hamster, can anyone recommend a good pet shop to go to in kl/selangor area?
i went to my lps yesterday... all their hamsters were badly housed, not enough bedding, WORSE: NO WHEELS... kinda pity them

Firstly
Wood shavings - Aspen, Chipsi
Wood Pellets - Any type that will not clump
Paper Bedding - Crittercare, Living World Fresh & Comfy, Carefresh and Kaytee
Paper Pellet Bedding - Paper Pure Dream, Back to nature, Greenkat
then DIY Bedding.... You can DIY.. But the method you describe is too much work.
Try this... the result is the same

Why Chipsi?
Chipsi are softwood... Meaning it is a mixture of softwood that are spruce and fir. They are harmless.
My syrians and winterwhite hated aspen because it is too rough. I always needed to crush them (Too much work)
When on Aspen, one of my winterwhites managed to get her ears pierce.
****Do not use hay (Timothy, Alfafa or Meadow) as nesting / bedding... It will attract fleas and mites. Unless you prepared the hay
in the first place and only for a small quantity.*****
So I use Chipsi Classic Unscented or any other type bedding (depends on my fancy) on the bottom to catch the pee.
and then use as much Shredded Tissue/Toilet Paper on the top.
This will provide nesting material as well as burrowing.
Offer cardboard tubes for them their trim nails.
Bathing Sand... I only give to my Robos... Never my Winter whites or Syrians. Why? I like their natural scent. Robo are a bit oily.
When I am hardworking, i Will put them in a small fish aquarium and let them play 2 hrs, if not, I leave the cut out box with sand in it.
Throw after a week. They will play rolling, pee, poo, eat and sleep in it.
Rather than Petshop, if you can drive, why not approach pet breeders even the home breeders.
But be cautious, Some are immature and some are expert.
You can try there, in facebook, you can even manage to see giveaway hamster.
