that's where there is a discussion. if one has 500k, then no discussion liao. definitely AR2. because you have 1 initial investment and 8 DCAs. Definitely agree with Vanguard 2015

but if one have only 100k, then that's where it really depends if one has bola besi or not  tongue.gif means no DCA already. its as good as a closed ended fund. you can't add or sell for 6 months unless you are willing to pay the redemption fee. in my case, if I really were to get 100k, i'll tarik from my house loan, which is another risk  sweat.gif  biggrin.gif
for the first IF, definitely go for AR2 already I think.  flex.gif
for the 2nd IF, if really true then huat arrr  rclxm9.gif  rclxm9.gif  rclxm9.gif

If you do recall, these products where is deemed wholsesale fund or fund open only to "sophisticated / accreditated" investors comes with certain T&C. Among them, the targeted participant must have MYR 3M in networth and / or household combined earning of MYR400K p.a..

For these qualified participants, it is assume that they have the financial capacity to withstand these flucuation and liquidity risk.

Whenn one sees these products from a retail perspective; that is why you start to think like this and like that such as; about DCA lar, about risk lar etc.

Interested participants should comprehend that these wholesale products are not targeting retail participants.

As such, come friend ... lai lai... let's play together-gether at the kiddie pool. Kiddie pool is nice, is safe and yet one can still enjoy the nice cool water.

Speaking from personal experience and after still being trapped in a private equity fund with a lock in period of 5 years, I would advise forumers here to stay away from them.

This is especially for close ended funds with minimum investment of RM100K with no possibility of DCA to average down the price. In this respect, I should have listened to Sifu Xuzenbangwall.gif

Please learn from my mistake.

OIC! OIC!

I have always wondered why there are people in the FSM thread who can afford or qualify to buy wholesale unit trust fund (qualify as accredited / sophisticated status) and yet still insist to play around at the kiddie pool. Now, at least I can understand in a small way reason for this.

But sahabat penjaga van, what if it is a closed ended fund that offers capital guaranteed return or fixed return fund like bonds closed ended fund leh? Would you change your mind?

Sahabat Xuzen, I won't change my mind in the future even if the fund is capital guaranteed (sounds like an endowment policy but that's a story for another day).

I would rather have the chance to do DCA or VA or leap to another better horse within 5 years rather than being locked in.
The fund in question is RHB Pre-IPO & Special Situation Fund 3. It was launched in November 2015. Currently at -2.98%.

I won't say that the fund has tumbled. I am looking at the opportunity cost. I could have invested in other unit trusts like KGF as suggested by Xuzen. Even the fixed deposit rate would have beaten it hands down.

The previous RHB Pre-IPO was giving about 20% return per annum (Note to self : Past performance is not indicative of future performance).

But RHB Pre-IPO still have 3 years plus to go. Hopefully it will pick up (Note to self : This time it will be different? Or it would not be different? The hope of a delusional investor?)  sweat.gif

Ah! Closed ended fund with lock in period negate one's option to perform the "Pony Express™ strategy". Got it! thumbsup.gif

Thanks boss. Obviously on this thread what you say bear a lot more weight than what I say. Been trying to say this so many times and yet get replies like "but the initial investment only RM10k", or "FSM doesn't check or ask for income or networth proof"

How do you protect retail investors from banging wall on their own?  sweat.gif

Because I am awesome and you are not bruce.gif cool2.gif

Jokes aside good sister, I think forum participants will be more vigilant about these wholesale fund when those who have been aggrieved by it come forward and share their stories for educational / academic purpose.

Sahabat Penjaga Van,

Do not be disheartened. I, too, have attended the prelaunch seminar for the fund stated by you, organized by RHB. Let me recap some of the salient / selling points to you.

Do take note that these private equity funds behave very differently from your regular run of the mill index hugging collective investment scheme aka unit trust or mutual fund.

How is it different?

If you do recall from their presentation before, the benefit of these fund is that they are very poorly correlated with other index and their targeted return is around 15% annualized return. These type of funds need some incubation period and the main return will come towards the end, when their assets comes into maturity, that is, the seed company that the fund manager selected goes for IPO. That is when you see your gain coming in.

In the mean time, stay put, continue to grumble and scold the fund manager, if that helps you release steam....

Beginning is bitter; end is sweet.

Xuzen

p/s a 15% annualized return will turn the MYR 100K into MYR 201,136.00 in five years time. drool.gif drool.gif drool.gif Hold till it mature.

I beg to differ. we are now worried about the local American investors who have banked money on trump tax cut and how he can keep American companies competitive.

Once they pull out, DOW under goes a correction and as they say when America sneezes the whole world catches a full blown pneumonia

Paiseh! Paiseh! But which fund is High Yield Bond fund ar?

QUOTE(Ramjade @ Mar 1 2017, 02:13 PM)
xuzen few questions
(i) how much % of the fund do you use to skim profit (eg 1-2%)?
(ii) do you certain target say fund A reaches 10% then you skin profit?
*
Algozen™ determines that 10% be allocated to US exposure, so I am using DCA method to skim the excess from US exposure until she remains at 10%.

Due to the recent US gain, the % of US port has exceeded 10%.

With regards to point two, the answer is yes.

Emm ...got a few high yield bond fund like :
RHB Asian High Yield Fund - MYR
Eastspring Investments Asian High Yield Bond MY Fund - MYR Hedged
United Asian High Yield Fund - MYR

What you think of them ? Eastspring one 15% gain in one year !

Edit: sorry looked at wrong page. not 30%.
*
No wonder all these High Yield Bond fund not appear under Algozen™ radar. They all have less than three years historical data.

My Algozen™ auto reject UTF that have less than three years historical data.

Interesting choice from FSM. This is one fund that I have love hate relationship with. The volatility is higher than most asia pac EQ funds. Everytime it's down I'd vow to sell it, after I sell some it would go back up. At the moment my IRR is 8.6 %; held for almost 4 years. Bought this fund same time as RHB Asian Income Fund; much prefer AIF's stability; and my IRR for AIF is 10.4%

Yeah, it's number doesn't look good. What the hell is FSM marketing team thinking?
