for those who have MP, how does it perform comparing to your DIY?
...
*
have to consider the similarity of asset allocation %....
Managed portfolio has a % in FI, while my DIY has no FI but big in small caps....
thus my DIY portfolio had a deeper fall recently compared to my moderately aggressive managed portfolio

Why?
In light of the challenging period in the short and medium term, our equity funds have generally raised their cash levels.
*
Why?.. Most probably Fund Managers are doing as per article by affin as per post 20708, page 1036

Hedging Currency Risk

To hedge or not to hedge? That’s probably the question on the minds of most investors, as they look outwards for their investments and seek to add to their allocation overseas.
However, this also runs the risk of increasing their exposure to foreign currencies, leaving them potentially vulnerable to movements in exchange rates. Sometimes, the currency swings are so large that it could impact your portfolio’s overall returns.
Does that mean you should fully hedge your position? The answer probably lies somewhere in the middle, depending on the investor’s own objectives and risk-tolerance.

Thank you. Good article.

I also realised that there are some unit trusts that are not hedged but are bought in the foreign currency e.g. AUD https://www.fundsupermart.com.my/fsmone/fun...amic-Growth-AUD

How is this different from hedging? Sorry I am getting a bit confused but trying my best to learn.
*
I googled and found this....

hope it can provide some explanation....
https://www.franklintempleton.lu/investor/r...e-class-hedging

if I remembered correctly, was told once some years ago, by the FM during a fair....
hedged class has lesser risk than the non hedged class...something like the FM monitor the forex movement and play with it too to smoothen the fluctuation.....

So the are thousands of Professional and Fund House( Including Fundsupermart ) that ARE really Stupid by Investing into CHINA ?

I dont THINK so.

..............
Anyway I am ALL into CHINA funds. ( > 80%)
*
for them, it is not STUPID or CLEVER to invest into CHINA....it is what was required in the mandate of each individual's fund.
they have to follow....

thumbup.gif GOOD that you know and do what you wanted....on this (>80% into china)
is this 80% is your UT portfolio?
how much is the % allocated to this UT portfolio in relation to your total asset?

for some may have millions in FD,...yet they only invested RM1000 into CHINA-A share UT...and yet they said i invested 100% into CHINA-A focused ut fund....yet they are not wrong to said that

haha, i just transferred everything out from Public Mutual into FSM.

if the sales charge rates are better in e-wallets, time to jump ship again.
*
Last time when you entered into public mutual funds you had already paid the sales charges....
Now you transfer all out from public mutual to FSM.... Do you incur another round of sales charges?
Later when you jumped FSM ship to ewallet platform... Will you kena another round of sales charges?

China abandons numerical GDP target on ‘great uncertainty’

BEIJING: China has abandoned its usual practice of setting a numerical target for economic growth this year due to the turmoil caused by the coronavirus pandemic, according to the text of Premier Li Keqiang’s annual policy address on Friday.

Securities Commission: Malaysians Can Soon Purchase Investment Products On E-Wallet Platforms
8th May 2020

Malaysians will soon be able to purchase investment products, such as unit trusts, on online platforms such as e-wallet and e-payment service providers.
This comes after the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) announced that capital market products can now be sold through e-service platforms, although these platforms must first apply to become recognised market operators (RMO).

Accordingly, the SC has updated the Guidelines on Recognised Markets with a new chapter on e-service platforms to assist with this move.
The update specified the registration requirements and ongoing obligations for e-service providers, allowing e-wallet and e-payment operators to partner with corporations that provide capital market services.
It also clarified that e-service providers who are currently subject to the directives of other regulators must first obtain their approvals before applying to the SC.

When looking mutual fund information in FSM, it will stated the below indicators:

- Annualised Returns
- Cumulative Performance
- Calendar Year Returns
- Historical NAV Movement

If I want to compare same class of mutual fund (ex: money market fund) to determine which one is giving better return, which indicator should I use?

Is it correct that the NAV moment should be useful when we try to sell the fund? Just like shares, if the buying NAV is lower then sell NAV then is profit?

while waiting for responses of the rest of your queries...
on this....(highlighted in BLUE)
i think, only applicable if that UT does not gives out distribution as in their policy

Hmm do you mean like rebalancing the risks? Not really as most of my UTs are equity funds
*
as per that article...
"..... it ensures that the portfolio allocation remains aligned with investors’ risk profile"

sort of try to maintain your initial plan for your % in M'sia, % in Tech sector, % in Asia Pac region, % in etc etc...that suits your planned risk appetite....
(you moved you planned Msia % to a tech only focused allocation).... you "maybe" had unknowingly allocated to a fund with highly focused risk?

For me, I just typed the fund name in google search bar and from there I can see the specific fund quoted by bloomberg.

so if you have 10 funds,...you will need to google search 10 times to see and transfer the NAVs to excel?

Hi,
Looks like the US equity and global equity going downhill again with fear of second wave covid-19.
Does anyone know if one can switch from wholesale Franklin Opportunities fund to Franklin Sukuk (bond) and obtain credits?
And switch again from bond to wholesale again later using the credits to waive fees?
*
this is what i got....
"yes, as long as higher tier to lower tier, you will gain credit point from system and vice versus switching from lower tier to higher tier charges will be waived if you have sufficient credit point"...and yes, it is applicable to wholesale fund too

but best is you gave the CS of FSM a call to confirm...since it is your money...

from the original article Idea Of The Week: Investment “Lessons” From Gambling....FSM HK

Is The Stock Market Like A Casino?
In a couple of aspects, there are similarities. Fortunately, the odds are not always stacked against the investor.

.... casinos hold a few important lessons for stock market investors, and in this piece, FSM highlight three ways that investors should approach the stock market to achieve a successful outcome.

Strategy I
The longer you invest, the more likely the odds are towards you

Strategy II
Own many tables

Strategy III
Stay the course

I switched my KGF to Kenanga Bond Fund and my TA Global Technology Fund to TA Income Fund a few days ago. Then switched some again to Affin Hwang Select Bond Fund and the RHB cash management fund.

But I still maintained the DCA for KGF and TA Global.

Locked in profit of RM20K plus. Part of my asset allocation rebalancing which I have not done for a long time.

Preparing to weather the oncoming financial storm.
