Hi sifus,

I am considering purchasing unit trust through fundsupermart platform.
If I would like to invest using my EPF fund, based on fundsupermart website i need to furnish the documents below:-

1. fund manager account opening form
2. inhouse subscription form
May I know what are these documents? Does it mean i have to utilise a unit trust agent?
*
maybe this helps....

btw,.FSM is DIY type...no agent involved, but they do provide client Investment specialist & they do have customer service to assist....both are free

Is the capability to meet a benchmark, the only criteria you should look for when investing?
There are objectives methods to compare the Fund Manager's capability then just by looking at "hitting/meeting" the benchmark
A fund manager’s investment capability can be quantified using net return, risk-reward ratio of portfolio and ratio of risk to alpha return compared to benchmark index of the portfolio.
FSM HK shared ways to quantify a fund manager’s investment capability using the fund’s past performance.

shocking.gif just last week, some forummers are questioning their decisions about investing in global emerging markets.....

FSM HK has just this to say....

"As at 31 May, the consensus of MSCI Emerging Markets Index’s forecast earnings growth in 2018 is 13.2%. Historically, in years where there was double-digit earnings growth, emerging markets would fare well. The index’s forecast PE in 2018 is 12.1X, while in 2010 to 2011, when earnings growth was also rapid, the average historical PE is around 13X. We believe that under the premise that earnings do meet expectation, the current market valuation is at discount and the investment potential of emerging markets is still appealing."

High Risk, High Returns Belief For Young Investors Is Questioned.

No doubt, in comparison to the elder investors, the youngsters have a relatively longer investment horizon which enable their investment capital to ride out the market waves, but it does not simply mean that they should blindly take on more risk for their investment. Here’s why.

RSP WORKS, BUT UN-INVESTED FUNDS ENTAIL HIGH OPPORTUNITY COST

Our simple study on historical DCA returns over the past 100 years suggests that a regular saving plan (RSP) is a good approach to building up a long-term investment portfolio, especially when the plan spans a longer period of time. From our perspective, RSPs are highly suited for investors who have little starting capital, bringing about the benefit of maintaining a disciplined saving approach, as well as continuous participation in the market.

While an RSP has its benefits, we still maintain that investors who have a larger sum for investment should put their money to work sooner rather than later; this would entail a “lump sum” investment rather than spacing out the investment via an RSP. The key reason for this is the high opportunity cost of un-invested funds, which can make a significant difference to investment returns, especially over the long term.

IMPLICATIONS FOR INVESTORS
Nevertheless, investors should note that an RSP may not be the most suitable approach for their investment requirements if they have a larger sum of capital to begin investing with.
For such investors, a suitable portfolio allocation should be decided upon based on risk and return considerations, and funds allocated in a “lump sum” approach rather than via an RSP.

I disagree with the article on lump sum approach. The benefit of DCA is when there is a downward trend or when there is high volatility. One reduce the risk of buying at the peak. One good example is now. Imagine if i had the lump sum and bought UT in early feb when the price is at its peak. I would be very sad 😭.
(a quick check with FSM's funds ranking tools...there are a number of funds doing greatly since Feb too)  biggrin.gif

Best is to split and spread the lump sum and buy periodically. One can still put it in money market funds and earn that 3.45% while DCA away at investing at UT. (just how many batches of DCA are to be made (number of times to input into Equities and by what duration?).....with the amount of money stand by in the FD? Every month? every quarter or ????)
*
i think this best summarized it.....
"if the investor is primarily concerned with reducing short-term downside risk and the potential for regret, then DCA may be a better alternative."

"If an investor is uncomfortable with the risks associated with a given market entry strategy, it may imply a low willingness to take risk in general, and if so, we recommend revisiting the target asset allocation to ensure that it appropriately addresses risk tolerance levels and investing goals."

Fundsupermart's Discounted Initial Sales Charge* 1.75 %
Annual Management Charge* 1.5 %
Trustee Fee* 0.08% p.a.of NAV, subject to a minimum of RM18,000 per annum.
Other Significant Fees* -
Annual Expense Ratio ^ 1.68% (as of February 28, 2018)

How does one count the sales charge ya? From above it seems like more than 3%. Does that mean that any ROI you get from your portfolio will minus the sales charge?

looks promising
*
Unknown to what specific input you need....
FSM had provide some comments on this fund

"CIMB-Principal Greater China Equity Fund
CIMB-Principal Greater China Equity Fund topped the list of Recommended Unit Trusts this year with its superior performance and low expense ratio. Based on our methodology which assesses the fund’s performance (60% weighting), risk and expense ratio (20% weighting each), the fund claimed the first position out of four funds under the Sub Regional Equity - Greater China category.

Performance-wise, the fund ranked first over the past one-year to five-year periods on a cumulative basis. In terms of calendar year returns, the fund has also ranked first in 2014 as well as 2016 and ranked second in 2012, 2013 and 2015 respectively. The fund has relatively stronger resilience, with lower max drawdown and downside volatility as compared to its peers' average. In terms of annual expense ratio, the fund has a lowest annual expense ratio of 1.8% as compared to its peers, indicating the ability of the fund to deliver strong performance without incurring higher costs for the investors.

The fund adopts an active fundamental approach with a focus on companies that grow shareholder value in the long term. Hence, the fund will seek to identify companies with sound fundamentals, high level of earnings visibility and those with a commitment to growing shareholder value over time

For investors who would like to invest in the Greater China region, we advise them to include this fund as part of their supplementary portfolios. While the fund is denominated in RM, there is foreign currency exposure as the underlying securities which the fund holds are quoted in their respective local currencies.

I am actually contemplating about this since last few years. I am an avid purchaser in PMO.

All these years it has giving me positive results.

Should I give this platform a try?

I thoroughly read through and it only mention cheque and epf payment. So I am kinda confuse if the platform allows me to make direct payment easily?
*
since you had been an avid purchaser in PMO and it had been giving you positive returns.....
may i suggest you keep your investment to that.

trying to venture into this platform of DIY may incurred you undue financial losses, emotional stress and sleepness nights

RSP sales charge is 1.75, but if you buy like normal it will be 0.8. And they say sales charge discount is applicable for RSP.

write in to FSM CS...
as times during the other promo, they will most probably tell you to inform them once you had the transaction details, so that they can manually adjust it for you the sales charges...

just a short Sunday morning relaxing reads

Hold your horses before you panic sell
Ask questions
FSM have shared their thoughts on portfolio monitoring previously, and mentioned that asking questions is the first step when it comes to assessing portfolios.
Asking questions could help investors to review their prior investment decision from a third-person point of view.
Imagine a fund you had invested has fallen by 10% from its peak a few months prior.
Before making an investment decision, here are a few questions that might help you answer your thoughts:
1.Have your views changed on the market? The tailwinds that you’re looking at previously, are those still valid? If yes, what’s putting you off from holding the position?
2.Comparatively, how did your holdings perform relative to the other funds? If it’s a broad-based decline, the poor fund performance may have justification.
But if there is a disconnection between the macroeconomic story and the equity markets performance, a review could be necessary.

Inescapable Noise

Error: According to the prospectus of the fund you intend to switch out from, if you are not redeeming ALL the units, you are required to retain at least MYR 100.0 worth of units in your holdings. For RHB Cash Management Fund 2, this is equivalent to 74.58Units

as i know previously i can withdraw up to the last single cents??!

select "ALL" instead of number of units or RM value?
