QUOTE(cnpats @ Feb 2 2023, 02:21 PM) https://www.pcworld.com/article/1499957/amd...s-elevated.html for AMD, Epyc is their main aim.Looks like they not interested to fight against Nvidia and intel anymore. Just solidify their bottom line. |

QUOTE(babylon52281 @ Jul 27 2024, 08:31 AM) Look at the Steam surveys, even globally the large majority of PC in use are Intel. Dont expect good pricing from AMD esp new, even 7000series got massive price cuts within 6months after launch. indeed, in terms volume, Intel still shipping out a lot more processors compared to AMD. |

is the R9 5900XT the cheapest 16 core CPU in the market now? currently I am running on AM4 with R7 5800X+32GBRAM. don't feel like upgrade to AM5. the idea is to upgrade the CPU and RAM to 64GB RAM for LLM-based RAG application. for GPU will be sticking to RTX3090 currently in use. any better idea guys?

QUOTE(babylon52281 @ Mar 26 2025, 03:00 PM) If your usage is thread heavy loads then yeah its better to just upgrade CPU for more cores. But your use is also speed dependent maybe its better oneshot changeover to AM5 7950x plus easier to manage high capacity 64GB in DDR5 over DDR4. on 2nd thought. decided to just upgrade to 2TB pcie4 nvme ssd and add more ram. as the bottleneck is not the cpu but rather the amount memory for long context rag. |
