Would you recommend 5600X to people who are running on 3600/3700 if they have the $$$ to upgrade?
Won't recommend unless they insist on pushing framerates on graphics cards at the level of RTX 3070 and above. AMD Ryzen, AM4 / AM5 Platform

I notice most shops bundle ATX and MATX only.

QUOTE(jbcoder @ Nov 7 2020, 09:34 PM) Full compile load for coding can shoot up to 60'c Very far from having to worry about temperature.Ryzens typically can run towards the warm side with stock cooler, even towards the low 90c when on full load. Your reading is nothing to worry of. |

QUOTE(sai86 @ Nov 8 2020, 03:33 PM) abang @goldfries can share knowledge on this? Based on my test using Ryzen 5 5600X and various memory settings, IF you're going to buy a high-speed kit and just load XMP, your gains will be so little that I find it pointless. great vid for newb like me not falling to shop sales getting higher mhz memory kit If you want to gain anything at all from a high-speed kit (or even whatever kit you have) - have to brave yourself to adjust the sub-timings. Some brands do have really terrible sub-timings, I've seen before how 2 different kit of 3200MHz can be so different. |

QUOTE(sonyfanzz @ Nov 8 2020, 05:42 PM) What d60g kit u using? 3600c14? How far can u push the kit? Details in the video, not the best of subtimings yet.The timing depends on the ram die they use, samsung b die can have very low latency while hynix Cjr/djr can have high mhz at high latency. Mine is Samsung B-Die. So far can do 4000MHz CL18 (or was it CL16) usually I just stay with 3733 CL14. |

QUOTE(nrw @ Nov 9 2020, 11:59 PM) From a pure gaming perspective. Yes, ditto to that. The 5600x is worth it for 1080p and 1440p with a powerful GPU for sure. The 5900x is worth it for high fps 1080p gaming. The 5800x is at a terrible price point and doesn't profit from the single ccd as I anticipated and hoped for. The 5950x is pointless for gaming. Can you elaborate more on the 5900X part? The single core boost is great? As for the 5950X - I see that as a productivity oriented processor for one who wants the core counts but not intending to go TR4 route. |

tl;dr for performance improvements
- best value is by overclocking the CPU - best performance by adding sub-timing tweaks on a high speed kit on top of that overclocked CPU. |

QUOTE(xxboxx @ Nov 25 2020, 05:37 PM) QUOTE(Someonesim @ Nov 25 2020, 06:49 PM) On paper should be slower, coz 6 cores vs 8 cores, video conversion more cores more benefit. My experience is like this, for video related works using Davinci Resolve. However I dont notice difference, didnt do A-B testing with same video file etc. Upon testing, my Ryzen 7 1800X is +/- the speed of the Ryzen 5 2600. I tested Ryzen 5 3600 vs Ryzen 7 2700X as well, the Ryzen 5 3600 edges the 2700X by a bit. 5600X vs 1700? Going to be a world of difference. Yes I did same test for all. One thing to note video rendering experience on Davinci Resolve is not the same as like say Blender. For Blender, 2700X still beats 3600, 1800X still beats 2600. |

QUOTE(Someonesim @ Nov 25 2020, 11:30 PM) I do video conversion using Handbrake, did a few just now. No doubt, it really varies software to software. It's faster, as the average fps are higher. Previous 1700 I think around 120fps average. |

And so here's my review of the AMD Ryzen 5 7600X in picture form, I recommend viewing it in video form for better understanding of this product : The video link is at https://youtu.be/H2NW7N-pPRE Basically I like this product a lot, out of the box it's OK but it is very overclockable and I am able to use lowered voltage to keep cool the otherwise rather hot running CPU. It has onboard graphics too which is a plus point, you can check out the performance in the video. No price (for Malaysia market) as of now, it will be announced tomorrow night at the AMD Ryzen 7000 launch event. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() TristanX liked this post

QUOTE(chocobo7779 @ Sep 26 2022, 10:22 PM) The undervolt + OC results are interesting Yes, that's why when I did my first run I was unimpressed. (as stated in video). I wonder whether AMD has pushed too much power just for the sake of making benchmarks look good So far, Zen 4 doesn't seem to be worth the price right now (feels like much of its pricing are early adopter's tax, not to mention board prices and DDR5 RAM) It was until I was doing OC and downvolt where I found it interesting. Can go DDR5 5200MHz 2x 8GB but do you want to pay twice? BUT my concern is about gains la, the performance level is that of an i9. I do feel that they did over-do the power, considering I can go from 4.7GHz base to 5.4GHz base and went from 1.25v to 1.2v and still works fine. My recommendation is to skip 2 generations for upgrade, or if up 1 generation then have to step up on the CPU rank. That also see what GPU and reso you're on. |

QUOTE(chocobo7779 @ Sep 26 2022, 11:06 PM) But yeah, Zen 4 isn't very compelling so far (feels more like an introductory chip to the AM5 platform rather than a substantial upgrade over what we have right now) I'm a sucka for stuff that allows me headroom to play.Sold my i9 to get and i5 for that. Now this one comes. Out of the box ....... meh, personally I feel my i5-12600K is the better all-rounder, thanks to those E-cores. BUT the E-cores is not without issue, some benchmarks / games actually result in lower FPS when E-cores enabled. Haven't try Windows 11 though. |

QUOTE(terradrive @ Jan 10 2023, 10:58 AM) No, AMD set the max tjmax for the 7000 series x3d chips at 89C. So I guess how much performance you get depends on how good your cooler is because the CPU will keep on ramping up until it hits the temp limit or power limit Yes but there is a limit. If your cooler is good enough it will draw until the max limited power draw, and your temperature won't be touching that 95c whatever limit. Basically IF power draw not maxed { WHILE (temps not yet 95c or power draw not yet maxed) DRAW AS MUCH POWER AS YOU CAN. } *crap my programming syntax doesn't work too well here but you get the drift. |
